Is Bayliss better than The Foghorn?

What do you think?

By my reckoning he's got less titles, but more experience and I think all in all a better more rounded racer. What do you think? Is he better than the Foghorn?

TP 18-Oct-2006 17:11

Absobloodylutely!

beancounter 18-Oct-2006 17:11

Absolutely not.

everton 18-Oct-2006 17:47

No way ... that's crazy thinking!

Dementor 18-Oct-2006 17:52

No way, but he projects himself in a better way, really nice guy.

sye73 18-Oct-2006 17:59

everton : I agree !! Doesn't that just show how bad Foggy is.....

So what you saying, sometimes less is more and that can be confusing with your remark.
If it was on personality and who would you prefer to be left in a room alone with when they have an axe in there hands, then Smilie Bayliss for me every time.

But Foggy's records speak for themselves, can Bayliss beat them before he retires? I doubt it.

The Fogster is hardly the shrinking violet when it comes to telling the world how good he is/was, Bayliss justs lets his riding do the talking.

Fogster has more titles, but Bayliss a better wins to races competed ratio in WSB, won about 1 in 3,

Who would I want to come to dinner, I dunno, the Fogster can be very funny when he is in the mood, Bayliss just comes across as less likely to poke yer eyes out with a table knife:lol:

It's a split decison, Fogster's title haul and Bayliss as a person??

If asked here indoors she'd say neither of 'em Chili rules the roost for the Laydees:lol:

I think he would have given him a well matched race but Carl would have been harder rider than Troy. He is a fantastic and methodical and deserves all the credit he gets. Its one of those scenarios that we will never know.Carl is mouthy but hemanaged to dismiss Chili and Corser.

Pretty even in my view but Bayliss wins in the Gentleman stakes.

As an overall package I would say Bayliss. His riding style is awesome and it is wonderful to see someone just happy to be out there riding and giving his all.

Foggy was good but let down by his mouth....

You have to also remember Bayliss started racing late aswell. If he hadn't then how many titles would he have?

yeti 31-Oct-2006 17:30

Moto GP of Valencia:

1st - Troy Bayliss
2nd - Loris Capirosssi
3rd - Nicky Hayden

I rest my case...............

sye73 31-Oct-2006 18:32

foggy wouldn't have been able to make the transition from WSB Ducati to a desmoseidici ( or what was ever the equivelent at the time ) in such a short space of time, if at all....

Well having read Foggy's autobiography, I thought he came across (disappointingly) just as he always seemed to and still does IMHO, as an arrogant ****. Good though he was when on form and as enyoyable as he proved to be to watch and for all his efforts and the good and media attention he brought to WSB, he lacks the charisma that say Sheene had and who did not spend his whole time off the track bad mouthing all and sundry and / or blaming the machinery when a race did not go his way. Back to the current era, Bayliss may not be the most animated of people, when interviewed off the track, but he does at least let his performance on the day do the talking and not his runaway mouth as his English former counterpart readily does. I like Foggy but sometimes all the "me...me...me, I am the best British rider of all time" record, starts to wear pretty thin when he chooses to play it so often. A good rider can rest on his laurels, not ram them down other's throats 24/7.

keefer 31-Oct-2006 19:05

Not now
what baylis did at Valencia is totally unprecedented
no one has done that before and I would be surprised if we see it done again
and what's more he's a nice bloke

DC 31-Oct-2006 19:47

I suppose Bayliss does seem the nicer bloke but I dont really care about all that. I suppose Foggy does have more titles but then Bayliss is one hell of a rider as he has shown.
I only watch the racing that these guys do. Not really interested in what they are up to,what they said or their private lives etc.

Just love to watch them race around the track. End of.

Yes, I don't see that how nice a rider is figures in the racing talent equation. Those Ducatis were bloody quick at Valencia and not for the first time left the opposition standing.

TP 01-Nov-2006 09:50

And Bayliss beat all comers, including his former 250cc world champion teammate who also finished 3rd in the championship - and he was on the same equipment.

Foghorn did nothing in GP's and then mouthed off that it was everyone else's fault .. no surprises there.

Bayliss is the man :D

Foggy, is washed up gob on a stick! But he was a very good rider.

851neil 01-Nov-2006 10:00

Bayliss has it on the wins ratio in my mind + that Valencia achievement left me awestruck...never to be repeated...
Did anybody lay any bets ?? and what odds did you get - gulp...

Yes, Bayliss did well! At least he hads a bike with enough fuel to finish!!:D

Sharpy G 01-Nov-2006 18:01

Both good on different levels I think !

Foggy was the best in his Era
Bayliss is now

equipment and skills move on with the times

best way to decide ! get Foggy to challenge Bayliss !! LOL

GsxrAge 01-Nov-2006 23:46

Foggy is still the best rider out of the two But there is not much in it !

As for foggy doing nothing in Gp's I can remember him at Donnington on a Cagiva Running in the top 3 untill the last lap when the bike ran out of fuel !

Also Bayliss was one of the first to ride the 990 and had some say in the original set up but I am not taking anything away from him, his win was bloody fantastic.

So to round up foggy is still the best but Bayliss is chewing his heels !

Age

Clippy 02-Nov-2006 13:57

I've never seen a rider win with the same level of aggression and determination that Foggy had - Bayliss is not in the same class from that perspective...

...but Bayliss is more of an all round rider I reckon.

So who's best?

Does it matter - they're different riders in diffferent eras with different machinery and different competition...

Could Foggy have beaten Rossi, Hayden etc and could Bayliss have beaten Russell, Slight etc etc. who knows?

G

VanDaMauler 02-Nov-2006 14:12

Bayliss is an awsome rider, but he aint no foggy...

It would be a great race to watch, but I think Foggy would out-phyche him and ride harder and put it on the line just that little bit more..

Foggy hated losing anything....He was like a terrier.

Plus....Anyone who wins at the TT has my respect, there are soooo many fantastic riders out there that wouldnt go near a street circuit like the TT, Northwest or Macua as its so bloody dangerous...

Foggy everytime.

doogalman 02-Nov-2006 16:03

You'd never have seen Foggy minceing about in lycra and playing on pushbikes.
