Cricket - Aus V Eng on now

For those who don't know the ICC Champions Trophy is currently running in India and today England are playing Australia.

Australia won the toss and sent England into bat and combination of Australia not bowling and fielding well enough and some exxellent England batting see Englan through to

78-0 off 17 overs. With Bell batting particularly well and Damien Martyn dropping a sitter!

It's early days yet but England are well placed, especially not having lost a wicket.

Good luck to the poms and may the best team win :)

COME ON AUSSIE!!!

TP 21-Oct-2006 11:15

Oh yeah, and it's on Sky Sports 2 if anyone else is interested.

TP 21-Oct-2006 11:42

A couple of quick wickets sees Australia trying to claw their way back into this game and a maiden from Lee just then. England still very well placed.

Bell got out trying to play an uppish drive over cover and was easily caught by 'Mr Cricket' Hussey.

Didn't see how Pietersen got out though, I'd stepped to grab some milk and bread and a nice coffee ... mmm, coffee.

Eng 100-2 off 23.2 overs.

TP 21-Oct-2006 11:55

Flintoff has a rush of blood early in his dig and skies one to deep midwicket where 'Mr Cricket' once again makes it look all too easy.

Flintoff gone for 4, bowler Watson.

110-3 off 25.5

TP 21-Oct-2006 11:57

Pietersen was caught behind by Gilchrist off Johnson for 1 by the way. I've just seen the scorecard.

Dunno who this Yardly character is batting now, never heard of him! When's Vaughan back?

TP 21-Oct-2006 12:14

Symonds strikes in his first over!

Strauss gone, caught behind off a gem of a delivery. Stauss played a good knock for his half century but perhaps he needed to hang around and anchor the innings?

The momentum is swinging back towards Aus ... still a long day to come yet though.

TP 21-Oct-2006 12:27

Yardy gone! Caught behind off Watson's bowling but to be fair it looked iffy, not sure it actually caught his glove ...

Still, he's gone for 4 and England are 128-5 off 32.4

TP 21-Oct-2006 12:42

Oh Ponting takes an awesome catch diving forward fielding at mid-on to dismiss Dalrymple off Johnson's bowling. He's always been a very special fielder!

Dalrymple with a bit of poor technique there, the bat too far out in front of him. He's gone for 3 and England are 135 - 6 off 36 overs.

Australia starting to take a hold of this game after the very good start given to England by Bell and Strauss.

TP 21-Oct-2006 12:47

And McGrath gets his first wicket.

Chris Read gone for a duck, caught behind off a typical McGrath delivery pitched just outside off stump and slightly leaving the right hander. The nick carries through to Gilly and Read trudges off towards the dressing room.

The pitch is keeping a bit low and there is a bit of movement out there, nothing too drastic yet and should even out and maybe take a bit more turn in the second innings.

England are having a middle order collapse and need to solidify the innings in order to post a competitive total. Australia have their tails up and are looking very positive in the field now.

137-7 off 37.3

TP 21-Oct-2006 13:02

Oh dear.

The rot continues, Mahmood caught and bowled by Bracken - good catch too.

151-8 off 40.5 and we're well and truly into the tail.

TP 21-Oct-2006 13:05

Johnson with a great delivery to a tail-ender and Harmison edges one through to Gilly and he's gone.

151-9 off 41.1

And that my friends, is 10,000 posts of drivel and other stuff.

TP 21-Oct-2006 13:23

A decent stand for the final wicket broken by McGrath who bowled James Anderson.

England bowled out in 45 overs for 169

Oh dear!

TP 21-Oct-2006 14:36

After a very positive start by Gilchrist and Watson a break in play due to lights has been rewarding for England.

A great delivery from Mahmood has taken the inside edge and cleaned up Gilly's stumps. Really good delivery, following the set plan for Gilly.

30-1 off 4.2 overs

TP 21-Oct-2006 14:55

Bugger! Aus are collapsing and I've got a few wickets to catch up on!

Watson bowled by Anderson for 21

Punter caught at 1st slip by Strauss

A mini-collapse for Aus, England are back in the game!

Game on!

Jools 21-Oct-2006 15:12

Ain't got sky...keep the commentary coming

TP 21-Oct-2006 15:19

I thought I was talking to myself here :)

Martyn is picking the run rate up, he's played a few glorious shots for 4 and is 33 off 20 balls

Aus are 75-3 from 13.3

To win from here Aus need 2.5 runs per over.

TP 21-Oct-2006 15:23

Aus 93-3

Martyn rattling on nicely. 46 off 27 deliveries, 9 fours.

Jools 21-Oct-2006 15:34

Found the 5 live feed on the internettyweb now...just in time for Collingwood to drop Martyn :(

TP 21-Oct-2006 15:34

Martyn dropped at backward point, difficult chance to hold onto though. Very high and to the left.

TP 21-Oct-2006 15:38

Martyn with a great 52 off 38 deliveries.

A friend of mine built that website :)

The run rate has slowed a bit and Aus are 114-3

They need 56 runs from 27 overs or 162 delivery's

An impossible chase!!!

TP 21-Oct-2006 16:45

13 runs required from 88 balls.

domski 21-Oct-2006 16:47

Good luck - you'll need it

TP 21-Oct-2006 16:51

I'm a bit gutted that Martyn didn't get his ton ..

But Symonds, in true form, smashes the first ball he faces away for 4 :D

Only 1 run to win now.

TP 21-Oct-2006 16:54

And Hussey produces a gem of a cover drive for 4 to wrap up the game.

Australia win by 6 wickets.

England bowled out for 169 after 45 overs.

Australia 170-4 after 36.5 overs ...

A 100+ run partnership between Martyn and Hussey the difference. Martyn must be man of the match.

And I've just won £50 :D

domski 21-Oct-2006 17:01

Sounds like you just scraped it.

Lucky barstewards!!!

;)

TP 21-Oct-2006 17:06

Yeah, lucky!

Anything can happen in cricket mate ... I mean, you blokes won the bloody ashes!!! :rolleye:

:D

Shame you have to give them back soon, oh well ;)
