So which AGV (Model) is a good AGV?

mav

Dibble 23-Oct-2006 20:56

AGV XR2 or its replacement, cracking they are, and tested by me :)

Shoei XR1000 - thers a medium one for sale on here at the mo, that'll be a 57/58 I think ...

http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/sh...ad.php?t=37954

excellent bit of kit :)

Albie 23-Oct-2006 22:04

I have an AGV GP pro.Very light and very comfertable. Carbon kevlar. Cost me just £199.00 as it was £70 off at xmas at hein gericke. I bought my partner a cheaper one with the click strap and she too likes it against the nolan. Arai are nice and very expensive for the cheapest model but if you like em thend spend the cash on what you like.

phoenix n max 23-Oct-2006 22:06

Shoieeeeeeeeeeeeee :) x 3

Hemet Choice

I've been using a Shoei X Spirit for some time now. Great lid which suits my head shape.

Jools 24-Oct-2006 10:11

Impossible to say what's a good lid for you Mav, the one that fits you best is probably the best. I've found that there ain't no such thing as the 'perfect' lid (although I've only had 3 lids since I started riding again).

Shark RSF - Good fit but heavy and I didn't like the seat belt type strap fastening
Shoei XR1000 - Good fit, lightweight, great ventilation, D-ring strap, pinlock visor, fantastic visor mechanism...but the chinguard pushed back in my face above 100 mph probably needed the bigger cheekpads
Roof R020 - Absolutely perfect fit for my head, amazingly comfy, quietest lid I've ever worn, a little heavier than the Shoei but not by much, ventilation not all that, pretty crude visor mechanism, still pushes back at speed but not as bad as the Shoei.

If I had my perfect lid it would be the Shoei with the Roof fit, comfort and quitness, plus the Shark's refusal to push back into my chops.

Melnie Mouse 24-Oct-2006 10:16

one that fits the best (snug) no pressure points but feel all round you is the best one to go for.

I've got AGV Gp-Pro and like Albie, i love mine, it's been the best helmet i've had (replaces the XR-2 model that someone mentioned) It's quiet and comfy and ever so light, carbon and kevlar shell, lightweight and strong.

Might go for AGV Ti-Tech next year and the Shoei XR1000's are very good aswell.

Carbon749 24-Oct-2006 11:48

Four Simpson's RX8, RX8 speedway, Outlaw and a 1980's origional RX1 Star Wars . All in black with iridium visors.

Awesome looking helmets, good fit if you ignore the sizes and just keep trying them until you find one that feels OK.

Down side is how noisey they are, OK for short blasts and town, but, need ear plugs for long rides and motorway use.

Arai Quantum F, white with iridium visor, for track days when they get awkward about the Simpson not having a gold ACU sticker.

jeff st4s 24-Oct-2006 12:08

I wanted a AGV, went to Hein Gerricke and ended up finding my head says Aria fit better, so bought a Corsair.
Needed a helmet for this off road stuff, so did not even bother trying other makes, just ordered an Aria Tour Cross in the same size and it fitted perfect.
My son went in and AGV fitted him, so no genetic material of me in there then!
You know what the say, 50p helmet for a 10 bob head! :)
So how much do you love yourself Mav?

Didn't MCN run a lid test a few weeks ago, Arai top but AGV failed after the first or second test if I recall, wonder if I've still got the comic to check?

Obviously, working as the Ferrari car park attendant you must be absolutely minted geezer!

My mate has 2 Schuberth and he loves them, loads of good features and VFM.
Was thinking about getting one as I suffer loads of wind noise (not curry related either!) on long Motorway trips, just recently bought some moulded plugs that help, will see on next long trip if I still need one and if so will look at a Schuberth just for that job.

I have to love myself Mav, no one else does!

Even Roy is leaving the country, might have to change my board name to nobbynomates!

This may sound like a bais toward a brand cos that's what I wear, my mate worked in a shop and is a full Aria trained service guy, he could sell me whatever he wanted, always went to Aria first and not the most expensive one either.
He's been to most of the factories, even Aria and would swear that's all he would wear.
After seeing Nakano's crash I have to agree.

Gilps 24-Oct-2006 14:17

I've had an Arai Condor for a couple of years and find it very comfy but was getting hacked off with the wind noise. I've bought a Schuberth S1 and can honestly say it's the dogs doo-dahs. The quality is superb. The fit is excellent, but the best bit is that it is so quiet. The designs are not very exciting as they are mostly plain colours. I got the "Nordic Dragon" design which is about as exciting as they get - very understated.
They've also got a Bluetooth gismo coming out for it soon which can be retro fitted to the lid if that's your thing. All your gadgets - phone, sat nav, MP3 - connect into one small box which then talks to the helmet via bluetooth, so no wires. If the phone rings then music or sat nav cuts out. You can just put all your gadgets and the box in a tank bag or bum bag to keep it portable.
With regard to wind noise, I read somewhere that the real issue is not about how much noise the helmet makes as they are all quite aerodynamic, but it's about how your helmet handles the noise generated by the bike. You can have a helmet which generates very little wind noise but still lets the wind noise from the bike in.

yeah and test on what? how it fits each head is different? people hear noise and head shapes are different on each person, so what one person will find it quiet/noisy or good/bad fit it is different to another person!

Go for a good made shell (not poly) with a nice light and snug fit, whatever make you go for. they're's probably pro's and cons with all of them.

I've got a GP Pro, like a few others on here best helmet i've had. It's been used for a couple of years and done a lot of miles and stood up well. Think its has a different name now? but more or less the same.

The ti-tec is the range topper but some people have said the finish isn't as good (strangely?)

Guess you get what you pay for but they are excellent helmets for the money

Cheers
Ant
