1098 undisguised!

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?pa...WS_NEW -BIKES

Martinp 07-Nov-2006 16:36

Well I like it, but i'll still keep my 748.

Sharpy G 07-Nov-2006 16:41

er....that looks familiar ! LOL

JPM 07-Nov-2006 17:16

Maybe it'll look better in the flesh but it just looks like a right mix-mash

Herb 07-Nov-2006 17:19

I like the look of the front and side profile a lot, but don't like the twin underseat exhaust. It looks a bit dated to me.

SlowLearner 07-Nov-2006 17:22

Is it me ?

or does it look rubbish.

I can't believe that Ducati would release something that looks so average, so am clinging to the hope that the real thing is being hidden away until show time and will blow us all away .......

PS I was stuned by the 999 when it came out, didnt like it but was stunned !
PPS Now i love my T9s :-)

Brent 07-Nov-2006 17:32

There won't be so many good deals on 999s now if that is a true pic.....

the phantom pieman 07-Nov-2006 18:33

Even with our Ducati Lurve goggles on, you have got to say that that looks like it was designed by a man going through a bitter divorce ....

Hope it looks better in the flesh as it looks like a cast off from the triumph 675 drawings ....

Rattler 07-Nov-2006 19:03

Looks good from this angle;

Rattler 07-Nov-2006 19:05

If its the real deal - the back end looks a lot better from the side than the front, but at least they've cleaned up the numberplate area - it looked a mess on the 999s. One of the reasons that the race 999s look much better IMO.

Has anyone crossed a Triumph with a ZX6 before? - No - I'd say that was original then !!! ;)

Best you had send your CV off to Bologna then as you clearly are better qualified than a design team who had the brief of catering to all the 916 purists and the 999 lovers, whilst still coming up with something fresh (no easy task I might add) and ask them to take on board your well founded criticism, assuming as you have that this IS the final version. I am sure they will welcome your input and an opportunity to please a myriad of people the world over simultaneously.

Rattler as ever you are the voice of reason. I salute you sir. Blimey some people are never pleased are they. Not saying I am totally in love with what I see but hell, we have not even seen it officially yet or for that matter in it's entireity. Speculation is a lot easier than the wait for the finished article and with less than a week to go it's rapidly becoming a pointless exercise.

IainMac 07-Nov-2006 20:50

To mee it looks like a re-hash, at least the 999 was original

Nattyboy 07-Nov-2006 20:56

In the words of Andy from Little Britain;

"I don' like it"

In all seriousness, I'm not keen on these pics (bit of a cliche but it does look a bit jap) but i'll reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh

Nat

Blimey ... PMT?

Just cos I don't like doesn't mean I have to get lashed by your lightweight vitriol .....

clint 999R 07-Nov-2006 23:23

surely they wont leave that swingarm silver looking at least if it was black you might not notice how big and horrible it is twin rear pipes bin there done that over 10 years ago if this is it must say looks a little disapointing good job i love my 999r

Hmmm....have to agree with the comments about the swingarm. I'm just looking at it on the front cover of MCN and the swing arm looks almost like it could be a scooter engine :(

From the same front cover shot the exhausts look pretty awful too, almost as if they're stuck on as an afterthought - they certainly don't look nicely integrated with the tail unit. They look a bit cack on pages 2 & 3 as well, again, they almost look as if they're made for a different bike althogether and what's with putting the exhaust outlets at an angle like that? If the angle of the exhaust outlets mirrored the shape of the tail or something I could go with that, but at the moment they just look wrong....Ahhhh....I get it...the DP exhausts will probably look just right

beancounter 08-Nov-2006 08:58

Christ, what a piece of cack...makes the 999 look a real beauty!

The 999, the Multistrada, now this...have Ducati lost the plot, or just given up?

Not exactly "fresh" if it's a mish-mash of 916, 999, MV and CRR600RR is it?

I'll stick with my 749S thanks :D

What happened to the Milan secret unveilling then ???
Did Bologna bottle it with all the leaked photos ??

IMHO

still not sure I like it, bit too "bitsa" for me
not sure it's a new design ? looks like a bit of a combo job

front nose looks way too jap and I've only just got away from all that !!
maybe it will look better in the flesh ?!

guess I'll wait for thr 'R' as I've been spoilt now !!! LOL

G

couldn't agree more on first impressions

fab 08-Nov-2006 11:09

Well i would have to say i like it but it doesnt appear to be a classic design, but in Ducatis shoes what could they have done?

If they went radical like with the 749/999 series they would have been criticised. if they went slighkty conservative they would be criticised. As such they have gone for the latter and prbably hoping they could steal a lot of sales from the Jap market...

It is a handsome bike i think, just nothing revolutionary.. and as with most things nowadays it will prob look better in the flesh!

Interesting
I can imagine the good words from hundreds of people now if it had some sort of GSXR side exhaust ?
what would you rather see ?
not trying to pick on you 999R but what did all those who have been saying they didn't like it want to see ?
something without wheels maybe.
I can understand people saying "Na not for me"
but its the "That's so yesterday, looks like a Kawasaki and a Triumph"
so come on in your opinions what's the best looking bike out there ?

beancounter 08-Nov-2006 11:25

Not hard - it's the MV

Sharpy G 08-Nov-2006 11:27

exhaust

flush, twin, slash cut, side exit, cans/box hidden in the bellypan

that'll do 4 me

swannymere 08-Nov-2006 12:05

My oh my,if that was human it would go straight to the top of the list for face reconstruction. It's so bloody ugly and can't decide if it's retro, futuristic or contemporary with end result it's a mongrel.I will never buy one,and if this is what happens when you listen to owners of 9** and 748's they should just ignore them next time.Even a Gixxer starts to look attractive when compared to this abortion.

RCA 08-Nov-2006 12:07

MHO
1. From the side it's a 999
2. From the front it looks like the RR
3. From the back it looks abit **** and those cans look cheap & nasty.

But going to Milan next week so I will hold back until then....

I have a deposit down on the S (which I can get back if i don't like it)....

swannymere 08-Nov-2006 12:08

Brave,brave man.

Nick Pavey 08-Nov-2006 12:51

Maybe it'll look better in black? Maybe it will grow on us?

The front is definately Kwak,748 tank,999 wheels,a real hybrid.

Hate the typeface used, thats about it at the moment. :)

Ray 08-Nov-2006 14:25

Have any of you lot seen a an 07 Gixer thou' for real ? Two flipping great dustbins hanging off it.

Resrving judgement and kangaroo court sentence on the 1098 'til I see one one in 3d with my own eyes, no rose tints, no beer goggles:D

original
stylish
and very Ducati

rcgbob44 09-Nov-2006 08:18

Its a natural evolution of the 916, and how many accolades has that received!

Sharpy G 09-Nov-2006 08:26

Kawa-Cati or Duc-asaki ?

if you are talking about the exhaust ?
then they don't come out the top on the sedici
they come straight out the back like the 916
but it also has some side exhaust which come out the fairing.
I would be interested in seeing that.
but the problem with the road bike is you have to fit on a road legal exhaust and Cat

Sharpy G 09-Nov-2006 08:54

the road bike sedici exits top of the tail unit dosen't it ?
