Best winter gear? Gloves, neckwarmer, helmet, etc
 

Evenin' all. :)

Things are starting to get a bit chilly out there and I'm noticing a couple of deficiencies in my kit...

Despite getting some winter gloves (spidis) and having some wind protection I'm having to use an extra set of fleece liners. Makes the gloves dangerously bulky.

Second on the list is a decent neckwarmer, mine's flimsy and not exactly designed for bike use.

Last is the helmet which seems to have a gap at the top of the visor specifically designed to freeze my forehead! Cheap bloody helmets. :(

So what's best? Don't mind spending top dosh if it's good kit as it's only going to get colder....

Pathon two finger gloves - very warm not bulky.

I use cold killers top, breeks and neck warmer. does a good job.

Simply get a car - HTH ;)

Taxi cards are useful too....;)

Honestly though, I can't possibly understand the thousands of feckwits that spend hours every morning queueing in their cars on the A40. Are their collective lives really so pathetic and worthless that they don't mind wasting 3 hours a day between the m25 and marylebone rd.

I use a Schuberth S1 lid. It has a close fitting neck collar which keeps out noise, wind and cold draughts.

And finally, in Winter, I ride a BMW F650GS with heated grips and brush guards which keeps my hands real toasty. And it has a power outlet for heated clothing. The only downside is that its a BMW F650GS. Not the most exciting bike but real practical in this weather.

Try http://www.ultimateear.com/ also for ear plugs aswell. I use a balaclava and a Arai Astro which has got a fogcity insert in it very handy in the mornings.

I bought some of these plugs, can recommend them.
I use Texport winter gloves, saw them as best glove in Ride or Bike, got them and toasty hands now.

To keep y'bonce from getting cold, I use old ear-plugs jammed into the helmet vents. Works a treat.

I've got the Hein Gericke Pathan 4 finger jobbies,they are pretty good too.I could'nt get on with the 'lobster claw' 2 finger variety.
My winter neck warmer is a fleece thing that was free with 'BIKE' magazine a couple of years ago.
Helmet,.....hmmm,my Shoei was a bit draughty on the run over to Mablethorpe last week,so I may blow the cobwebs off the Arai and try that next.

No good for going down the tunnels though.

I use Dainese winter race gloves, expensive but very toasty and waterproof. The titanium knuckles come handy...

Ali, i swear by the Hein Gericke Pathan lobster claw/ 2 finger type gloves, if its really cold than a set of thin silk inner gloves work wonders.

My dainese jacket has a high collar so i just use a thin buff type neck warmer to seal the gap. Personally i don't like the really thick neck warmers as they tend to restrict head movement a bit.

But by far the best thing is a heated waist coat, i use one made by 'Chilli' pain for short round the block trips trips where you need to get on and off the bike a lot, but absolutely superb for anything more than 30 minutes on the bike. By keeping your body core warm it really helps keeping extremities warm.

Daytona armoured goretex boots with a pair of thin and pair of thick fleecy socks work for me.
