Jam - of the musical variety
 

So, what to do in the winter months when it's not so nice to be out on the bike... could go to the gym... but I'd rather be playing guitar!

I've been talking to Stu748R for a while about a jam session so I've booked a rehearsal room at The Riot Club in Hounslow for the afternoon of Saturday 16th December. Are there any other musoes that want to come along any play some rock'n'roll?

if you needed a drummer I would have been there to scrub off about 20 years of cobwebs:o

It's always nice to have visitors, just don't expect a lot from a bunch of people who haven't played together before! ;)

Also, rehersal rooms aren't very big... perhaps I should make the booking for on of the bigger size rooms if there's going to be a lot of us...

Jools, I =love= the sound of a Rickenbacker bass. Though if you bring it it does mean we will have to play "Ace of Spades" (earplugs will be provided) :D

Yep, it's a May 1973 4001 stereo in black. It was my first 'proper' bass, bought secondhand for £275 in 1975 which was an absolute fortune in those days. It's was gigged to within an inch of it's life for 25 years but has spent the last few years of it's life in honourable retirement after it was refinished by Martin Petersen at 'The Gallery'. It's not perfect, the nut has worn a bit low and the neck needs a bit more relief (no, I'm not going to have a go at Rickenbackers dual truss rods on my own) so it's got a bit of fret buzz here and there. The electrics also need looking at after so long, the pots are very crackly and the pickup selector is a bit iffy, but it still makes a lovely sound. A bloke at 'The Bass Centre' reckoned it was one of the best Rickys he's heard. Priceless to me and I'll never sell it.

I've got a 5 string fretless as well, my main bass now, so I'll bring my own....and a Palm Bay 4 string (took over 4 string fretted duties from the Ricky)

you should have been at our gig last night with a small but perfectly formed group of DSC 'House Special' groupies in attendance. I even played guitar on 5 numbers in addition to my tambo duties - am playing harmonica on a track we are rehearsing for a wedding gig coming up. If you need a singer and I can make the date, I'm up for a laugh.

If it's anything like the rehearsal studios we use, there's no room for 'onlookers' unless they balance the bass amp on ther heads.

That's a real shame WJB, I was kinda hoping you would be able to put in an appearence. If it's considered a success, I was thinking of doing another day in January.

Still missing a drumist. No one going to volunteer?

One of me best pals is a drummer and I'm sure he would enjoy a jam session BUT he now lives in New Zealand. Unlucky. Cos he's a bit good.

What with Christmas looming, some people being unable to make it plus it looks like I'm going to be at work all weekend... we'll do this in January. Is there any Saturday in Jan you can't make?
