sp4 pics 3 Attachment(s) Just a few shots hope you all like em.Dont know what the purist will think of the gold frame,I bought it like that so dont shoot me,i like it anyway infact i like everthing about this bike,apart from no fast idle switch............dave. |
NOPE !!! Thats a sweet bike Dave, I thought it was going to be bright Gold frame, like the top of the forks but, it looks the same colour frame as the original on my 900ss. I like it a lot! SOme nice touches in there, Carbon exhaust hangers? Rebuilt Forks?? The only thing that bugs me on the T8 is the yellow shock loop - I take it that its a plastic coating of some sort? Its bad enough having a yellow spring on most shock's as it is. Should be no yellow on a Ducati :devil: :lol: :o Cheers - Frank |

Ooooh Nice.... Gives me a dilemma on what to do with my Strada...I prefer the all red seat unit a la SP4, but I like the fairing lowers of the standard strada/SP5. I guess it'll have to be a mutt. Frank, the suspension hoop is painted or powder coated...it's grey on some later 888's |

Oh my god! An SP4 in the rain!! Are you mad!!! I noticed the rear brake caliper sits on top of the swing arm. On my SP4 it's hung undeneath and secured with an alloy rod to the crankcases. Can anyone shed light on the difference? I seem to remember horror stories about the alloy rods breaking and the caliper jamming on. (or was that the carbon fibre version) Oh, and of course... very nice bike mate! |

If you want a fast idle button, that's all the lever is on the left hand lever, you can fit a 996 throttle and cable. Rgds, Rob |
Very nice bike Dave. Just not so sure about the frame colour, white just seems so right. As for no fast idle you'll get used to that, just wait until the clutch drags a bit when cold and no fast idle that gets a bit annoying!! And Fred your rear brake is a mod, which is one of those mods I would do to mine one day. I wonder how many sp4 owners are on this site now? Mike. |

The lack of fast idle can be a pain. It means you have to keep a hand on the throttle for the first few minutes or it'll die. You can't just leave the bike ticking over whilst you get ready to ride. ...and Sod's Law dictates that after you've moved the car from the drive, fumbled with all six locks on the garage door, removed all the chains holding the bike to the ground, pulled out the bike from the garage and parked it on the road, closed and relocked the padlocks, put the car back on the drive, put on your helmet/gloves and zipped up your jacket... ..the damn thing won't start 'cause the battery's gone flat! Ahh! The joys. (Now where's my Honda keys!) |

i fit a 916 type throttle with the fast idle to mine, had to use a 916 cable to make it work and also ditched the lever on the lhs bar. |
I believe the underslung brake was a dealer fit optional extra on the SP4, and the Strada for that matter. On the SP5 they made it standard. So, the SP4 is correct with either. |
interesting............. although, it's hard enough getting a stea, whoops!, ahem, dealer, to show any interest in anything other than fleecing you of your cash, let alone offer anything as an option!!! in oz that is.. |
Ditto what Loony888 said, i fitted a 916 throttle and cable to my 851/916 special,which had no lever on the lefthand bar. I think the underslung rear brake was fitted to the SP4 but not on the SP5. I didn't fit the underslung brake set up to my bike as when i was "HARD ON THE BRAKES" the rear wheel was waveing about in the air! It seemed a lot of expense for something that i wouldn't be using. Hi, weeveetwin said you can't just leave the bike ticking over whilst you get ready.......Not so if the bike is set up right! they will rumble away quite happily after a small blip on the throttle. I only went for the fast idle throttle on my bike after some "mild";) tuning......now with the 916 throttle she barks away quite happily! Steve |
IF you have the "caliper above the disc" setup, make sure that there is a security clip in the end of the pin that goes through the caliper and pads. I would expect one on an SP but with Ducati you can't be sure they had the right ones in stock the day they built yours. The earlier 900SS did not have the clip, and the pins were given to working their way out, - the pads drop - the wheel locks. It happened to me, fortunately at very low speed. Steve |
The underslung brake set up should stop all that waving about in the air. Its prime purpose is to stop axle hop. I have one on my bevel. Rear lockup went from a violent bouncing noisy affair to a fully controlable slide. |
