Best FREE Spam filter
 

I'm getting really fed up of spam in my inbox,Tried Spamweed,****.

Any recomendations?

I'm still using Spamfighter, its good but no where near near perfect.

I still have to go though dozens of spam each day as some DSC stuff makes it into the 'Sin-bin' that shouldn't.

I'm on the free version mind but, its worth a look:

Use Thunderbird for your emails, it contains the BEST free spam filter. And as it's also one of the best email software... :D

MailWasher gets my vote. Run it before collecting your email and it will go through and mark everything it thinks is spam. Check the selection and then hit a button and its gone.

It can work of various spam lists as well, eg spamhaus.org, so it picks up known spamming sources which is where most of the junk comes from.

Its free, simple to use, works on multiple accounts, and you get to keep your current email program too.

I've installed and configured SpamAssassin for my company. Works not bad.

Useful info - will be trying some myself.
What i dont understand is why i get mails that aren't even for me, not spelt right or even just a bit like my email :confused: eg - icklepammie@, not my email but i still get spam for that and many others in my outlook!

You might not see your name initially, but it will be in a long list of recipients somewhere - as a nasty mass mailer program works its way through its combination of users for that run.

Since joining the webteam I now get between 50 - 100 spam messages each day, mostly adverts for stocks and shares or viagra tablets of some sorts - I have NO idea what the previous webteam were up to :devil:

Not neccessarily anything. Spam companies use robots to make up combinations of email names / possible names, plus they monitor user names via associations.:o

Having said that though - they just might have been up to no good...:lol:

If you're prepared to pay, the Pro version is even better!

If using MS Exchange, I'd have no hesitation in recommending GFI MailEssentials. Great product.

Mailwasher works fine for me, as reccommended by someone here who is paid to know a lot more about IT than i do.

Depends on how much you want to spend, we've just invested in Postini, then behind that we have brightmail and behind that we have both Mailsweeper and Mail marshal running for spam/AV/Content checking but I doubt the DSC has enough cash in the pot for one of these let alone the lot if I'm honest.

Luckily the DSC doesn't use Exchange!

Yep, I was guessing the DSC budget would be more in line with the MailEssentials product.

I've been using MailWasher Pro for over two years now - I just couldn't manage without it these days! Cost is less than $40 so it's not a lot to pay for a much easier life!
