Slipper clutch Slipper clutch for 620ss..!......does anyone know what type will/can fit and which is allowed in DD.... thanks |
Rear tyre, 160x17 Diablo... ;) Andy |
I think Sigma do one Fil, and yes it is legal because the later bikes have a 'servo' clutch which is a form of slipper. John |
Don,t know about the Sigma, one but the standard one is not worth fitting. Mike |
Yup Neil was developing one last year when i spoke to him at the trade expo, Im sure he will be marketing it by now. Glyn |
Don't know what one to use, but it's certainly allowed under the proposed '07 rules... 1.6.32 For Class A only The original clutch assembly may be modified or replaced with an aftermarket back torque limiting unit (slipper type). |

Paul... Wot slipper have u got fitted .?..the version that comes with the later models or an after market jobby.? |
One from a damaged S2R...........which is the same part # as the 620 one, and the one listed in the DP catalogue.... Likewise the 6-speed box, but I'm saving the heads and barrels until 2008 when I go play with the Sport 1000s... ;-) |
I ran Sigma slipper clutch in 2006 and can recommend it - I will be running a Sigma clutck in my Thunderbike next year. Mine was a 5 speed 620SS. The standard clutch has a tendency to grab when coming off the line and I know others have had problems with clutch slip (mine was OK with an extra steel plate in the pack). The Sigma slipper clutch cured all those problems; it gave smooth take up coming off the line; never slipped (once we'd got the correct spring combinations sorted) and made the bike much more stable on the brakes into the turns - I was a sceptic but ended a convert! |
The clutck is a new Sigma development (was a secret till I just blabbed it now!!). It is based on the standard Sigma device but incorporates some of the ideas Neil Spalding picked up in the MotoGP padocks - specifically it incorporated a set of sun and planet gears, causing the heavier clutch drum to rotate "backwards" emulating the Yamaha MotoGP engine (with its backward rotating crank) and - in theory at least - reducing engine gyroscopic effect. Having the engine gyroscopic effects opposite to those of the wheels (both rotating forward - usually) reduces the overall gyroscopic effect fely by the chasis and makes the bike more nimble, improves traction and reduces the tendency to wheelie under power. |
A lot of money can be a DANGEROUS THING Slipper clutches eek! My old DLS bike with 58bhp, high bars, and std clutch came 2nd in 2005. Boggy's bike won 2005 without one. Is this not a case of over egging the pudding!!!! |
Quote:
Maybe, but could that bike come second next year???? Progress my boy, progress..... |
Quote:
What, like big bore kits and flatslides = fuel injection? |
As long as the pudding has fruit...is served warm...and is called a struedel. I'm in!!! My 2007 bike has one...std I think?? I'll ask Boggy and Baines... I just ride it and hang on! |
Quote:
Whitch was the DLS bike you had last year who has it now? |
Quote:
you do LOL LOL.......its the white monnie u bought off tony, who bought off me, who bought off Teetol, who got it off DLS when they *closed * and the one that TP is riding next year |
Quote:
the 05 bike lol...be lucky if it makes top 5 ....... no slipper clutch...no 6 speed box......and these are the " 07 " must haves for any DD'er serious in 07..aint they.? |
MLC Racing is Dave Ainscough, aren't you Dave. He owns the ex-Clint DeTarnowsky DLS bike, which finished 2nd in 2005. Chass & Louigi Moto now own the 'other' ex-DLS bike (Mike Dawson's) which Tetol, Fil2 and Couch owned. Clear? ;) |
Incidently, I don't have a slipper (apart from that servo thingy) and it's fine. Don't need a slipper thanks - unless you can't change gear properly??? What did they do in WSB/GP 10 or 15 years ago? Slipper my arse!! We're riding 60bhp road bikes ffs :D |
Quote:
i want a slipper..just a plain ole ramp and ball bearing model will do fine thanks... i need a slipper all the top boys ave got em or getting em.? |
Quote:
What do you need one for? You getting judder into corners? Backing it in with your 60bhp and whiff of torque? Spend the £600 on tracktime and learn how to change gear properly :frog:   |
Quote:
£600..LOL.........u r joking right..i was thinking of the std slipper that comes in the later 620's.....that aint anywhere near £600 We aint all as good as you clearly are.!.....YOU are the man to beat..and if you got a slipper then we all NEED one |
Quote:
Phillip, Phillip, Phillip... A Sigma slipper (or a Feracci one) are approx £600. The standard 'slipper' that the later bikes come with, is not a slipper. I do not have a slipper. I don't need one. Nobody in DD needs one. You don't need one. It's a waste of money. Slippers are unneccessary. This aint motoGP. You could have the one in my bike... if it was my bike! I'm not the only man to beat either :frog: |
|
Quote:
You should all put slipper clutches in so dom can disappear!!:D:D:D |

Don't take this the wrong way Phil, but onc you jump on the band wagon of "I really need this tio compete" you have already lost. You competed with far less a couple of seasons ago and faired quite well. use your ability. Stay smooth and stay upright. |
Quote:
Well said!!never needed one on a 128 bhp 600 Gixxer... there is no way i would waste my money to get one on a 620 with 62 bhp!! would rather spend my money on tracktime!! |
