Datatool System 3 Alarm Problem
 

In the summer my alarm went off while I was riding the bike, so I stopped disarmed it. WHen I tried to start the bike the starter motor wouldn't turn. I can only get the bike started by disconnectiong the lead on starter. Also the alarm won't go in the service mode. I've disconnected the battery on the bike and left it for a while i.e.couple of days, reconnected everything but it is still behaving the same anyone got any ideas of what might be wrong?

mine behaved like that when the positive wire to the alarm coroded and broke

If you can disconnect the battery without the alarm going off when not in service mode, then the internal battery is dead ............ at least. It sounds like the relay that cuts the starter circuit has gone to??
Glyn's idea is very valid as this would prevent the internal battery from charging and the alarm from sensing voltage drop. Having no power would render it null and void and may have failed safe on the starter circuit.
Check the wire and also the fuse first.

When I disconnected the main battery the alarm did go off for a while then it stopped.

Then the power connection is probably good. It's just the internal battery that is a bit tired.
You've probably got a problem with the circuit board.

The best modification I made to my 748 was to spend a couple of hours cutting out the Datatool system 3 and throwing it as far as I could.

Hey presto, no bike not starting, no alarm going off the in the garage no alarm going off when riding down the road......

Buy a big lock!

Same here... I had a big problem with my indicator wires blowing the fuse for the stop and horn, so my bike wouldn't start and the alarm would go off whilst riding it (had to push start it). Then the alarm "apparently" was the cause of my ECu going caput, which left me with a nice bill for a new one whilst out in France.

PS - try not to break down in Poitiers - its a very boring place if youre forced to stay there!

Right i'm going to remove the alarm but there is one connector on the left had side which comes out of the main wiring of the bike and connects to a lead from the alarm but there doesn't to another connect to connect to it, do I just unconnect this one and tape it up. this wire is not the indicator, or the battery or led or the other lead that connects by the clutch cover.

Yes just tape it up, did the same to mine this year, and it runs fine.

well I removed the alarm from the bike and now when I turn the key the fuel pumps don't come on. If then connect this wire I was talking about back to the alarm the fuel pumps work. I have looked for another connector on the bike to connect this too but I cannot find anything. the wires on this connector are brown and white. anyone got any ideas?

I had the same problem with the fuel pump not working. I can't remember right now how I fixed it but i'll have a look at my bike later. Actually it'll have to be at the weekend if that's OK?

Have you tried bridging the wires?

Could be part of the ignition relay circuit from the wire colours you have given.

i had a look on my bike last night but I've helpfully tidied up all of the wiring in the loom.....

But from memory there were two brown wires coming from the front of the bike on the left hand side and appeared under the seat unit and connected to the alarm. I think i just joined then togeather and the fuel pump worked.

The connector is there as part of the old custom fit alarms. It needs to be bridged and all should be well
