SKY TV outside the UK ??? I am missing my sports , being a KIWI in Sweden and sick of ICE HOCKEY, ice skating, ski jumping, bandy ect....... has anyone ever tried to get SKY outside of the UK? Is it possible ?? Thanks |
We were wondering the same. It is possible in germany where we have a place, but we need an additional box registered as an extra for the uk dwelling , then just get a dish and point it at the satelite and away you go. But a non kosher setup would be better. How can it be done?? |
I Used to get it in Germany when i was posted out there, Its all unnoficial of course, We needed to register the Card at my folks address in the Uk as they cant legaly supply out of the uk. Not sure if its changed tho as this was 6 years ago. I seem to remember when i Bought the satelite dish it came with a map that gave rough angles and degrees to get you in the ball park for reception and it did cover a fair amount of europe. HTH Glyn |

Same then...LOL |
yep will work anywhere in the World, that’s the thing about satellites, they go around the world. We take our Sky card when we go on holiday, put it in the box and bobs your uncle, fanny's your aunt. Sky TV. Can't always get all of the pay sport and films that we would in the UK. |
Hi Rick & Doogalman, Just go here http://www.germansky.com/ i did mine through them, and i live in Denmark they deal with everything send you the box and card, you just need to get a dish sorted out with your local dish installer and bobs your uncle :) These days cards and box are married together as far as i know one will not work without the other |
Not quite true Ian, the Sky satellite will be in a geostationary orbit (which means that its orbiting at the same speed as the earth so its relative position to the ground never changes) otherwise your dish would need to track it as it moved across the sky. The Sky one will somewhere well to the south of the uk which is why all the dishes point that way. The further north you go the lower the angle will be as well and eventually the horizon will get in the way. Maybe sky have some sort of roaming agreement so you can get their signal of other peoples satellite? This link http://www.wotsat.com/footprints.html shows you which ones cover which area and tells you where they are in the sky. |
I Got a reply from SKY and they said that they wont do it outside of the UK and Ireland , oh well, the All Blacks will win, just wanted to know by HOW MUCH :) Will try that one in Germany Bionicle ! Or I just run a cable from your house as you are next door to us Looked at it, and it says that we can get it in Sweden, Thanks Mate, Can you Pm me how you got it installed and pay for it pls |
I have a sky box in my motor home & get reception all over europe no problem. |
Pikey? |
Sky can only be broadcast to the UK and Ireland, but as Sky Digital is transmitted on SES Astra satellites located at 28.2°E and Eutelsat's Eurobird 1 satellite located at 28.5°E - these have "footprints" that cover parts of Europe, so the free-to-view channels can be accessed in parts of Europe (with a suitably-sized dish). You can find coverage maps for the Astra satellite on the Astra or Satcure sites. http://www.ses-astra.com/consumer/az...p?locale=en_GB http://www.satcure.co.uk/2d/ The difficult bit is getting the equipment and especially card, but its obviously not that difficult just look at all the pubs in spain that have Sky, every single one of them cannot have recieved Sky digital at their Spanish address. Could it be perhaps that there is a number of locations in the UK that are missing a dish and RX? |
ive got one from the Uk and use mine over here never had a problem with a signal Sky know it goes on but you just have to be carefull how much info you give them if you have a problem |
I got a reply from SKY GERMANY and you can get them, you must have a dish properly installed to thier sat and buy the box and card from them, but it costs € 245 for the box then the packet you will have, so not cheap as here it costs 1 SEK + monthly fees for the swedish satilites |

Worked fine in Switzerland for 4 years. In fact there is a "grey market" for ex pats ... Hook it up, don't put in the phone line. And just don't admit to Sky you are not in the UK ... |
Want a dag? |
Hook it up, don't put in the phone line. And just don't admit to Sky you are not in the UK ... Like what I said, every bar owner in spain cant be wrong. PS did you know that Sky in the channel islands dont get the BBC channels, so if you have a GU post code you cant watch BBC1! |
