The 300c looks pretty smart, but that's it.

As cars, they are truly ****!

Herb 20-Dec-2006 08:36

Its does not look good or 'bad'. Looks like a pile of derivative American junk to me. I had a good look at one a while back when we had one in for benchmarking. It just does not compare to the quality of a European built car.

Jools 20-Dec-2006 09:44

I must admit that I've driven quite a few American cars although only Hertz rental cars and nothing particularly special, but they always struck me as being really crude and plastic ridden compared to European and Japanese cars.

Usually had a Ford Taurus or Chevrolet Malibu, but I had a supposedly upmarket Lincoln thing a couple of times - all of them built out of that really nasty cheap hard plastic inside. I used to get given Ford Mustang convertibles a lot as well and I couldn't believe how crude those things are. Look under the bonnet and it's difficult to remember seeing an engine with carbs, and the axle tramp when you slam your foot down....

It's no wonder that the US car industry is struggling

Its a Chrysler, as in Chrysler/Daimler, as in owned by Mercedes Benz.

Its a Good looking, better styled Merc, its got the E class chassis and the 3 Lt Diesel engine is straight out of a Merc too.

Fully loaded for silly money, I took out a Mitsubishi Warrior, a Convertable M3, a Range rover sport and the 300c and I went back for a second test of the 300c. (looking for something to get me up and down the M4 in comfort)

It drives soooo smooth, loads of torque, relaxed, chilled out driving and its fully loaded and theres room for 2 adult bodies in the boot...What more could you want for the money???

I do hate "Badge snobbery".

italian888 20-Dec-2006 11:18

Pimps car

MJS 20-Dec-2006 11:22

But it looks like a dogs dinner....

keefer 20-Dec-2006 12:03

it looks PHAT to me
would rather that than some rusty Jag

khu996 20-Dec-2006 12:07

It does look more 'pimptastic' than your regular 5-series or E-class, but then they dont come with 22" chrome wheels and aren't lowered to the floor!

I'd take the BMW or Merc anyday.

yeti 20-Dec-2006 12:09

I paid a bit extra and upgraded to one ona recent trip to the States. although it was only the V6 version, it was still a fun drive and the looks are awesome. But funnily enough a lot like the old Rover P2!!!!

sye73 20-Dec-2006 12:47

I'm with vandamauler - I reckon they look fantastic and although not usually a fan of US cars, I'd have a 300C in a second.... so long as it was the V8 of course !
Love Mercs too ( although totally lost their way between mid-nineties and now ) - Wouldn't want a BMW as a present

It's not badge snobbery in my opinion. It may be derived from the same platform as an E-class but its not a cheap E-class. Its just cheap.

Styling is a personal thing.

VanDaMauler 20-Dec-2006 14:07

Well I think it looks PimpTasticogsbollox!!!!

So much so, that I put in an order :D

Gangsta Black,Bentley (style) grill, Full lux pack, window tints and I`ll be putting Chrome 22`s on it....

Roll on Febuary!!!! Where`s my 9mm??

doogalman 20-Dec-2006 14:25

I saw a lovely Bentley continental estate yesterday.

VanDaMauler 20-Dec-2006 15:44

MJS 20-Dec-2006 15:45

Nah!! As good as they look, Lambo doors are for Lambo`s..:)

And I`ve gone for the Stereo upgrade in it, but I`m not filling the boot up wit "ICE" the upgrade is good enough and I`m gonna need the boot for dead bodies...

And Urban996, you are talking to a fella that would have one of these on the drive, if they made them right hand drive and Diesel engined...

:D

Nope, its a bridge...

Mad Dog Bianchi 21-Dec-2006 08:40

notice some of you refrained from saying 'the quality of a British built car' as you were trashing Yankee metal....hmmmmmmmmmm.

Not that I am a great fan of the stuff, but the new mustang was a blast to have on Hwy 1 up the California coast, the Ford Expedition I drove on my honeymoon was much better than I expected and competent on some interesting off road stretches, my bro-in-law had over 150,000 miles on his Chrsyler before he let it go for a Toyota Camry Hybrid and my mom's 93 T'bird still troops along mightily.....she loves the power, bless her 87 year old heart.

300C is straight out of 50's comic books and has that kind of anti-establisment gangster look to it. Wouldn't have a Chrysler myself, but then I live in Japan where cars are generally built properly...

Jools 21-Dec-2006 09:19

What I don't quite get is that much of the European car industry is owned or part owned by US companies, and yet they don't seem to learn anything from their European subsidiaries in terms of ergonomics or quality.

I think that people like Ford simply allow their European brands like Jaguar and Volvo to be marketed as their premier brands.

I still work for a US company and until last year worked for a US functional director, her boss was only two steps down from the executive council of the whole company and so pretty high falutin', and yet, one day the details of my car showed up on a travel report and this high up mistook this as a car rental. I got a sharp rebuke from them along the lines of "booking an upscale car like a Volvo C70 Convertible is against company rental policy, please amend it immediately". In actual fact my car appeared on the report because it was a booking for valet parking at Heathrow and they were a bit embarrased when I said "It's not a rental car, it's my car that I bought with my own money". However, after that I had to put up with remarks from US colleagues about being paid too much

Strange isn't it. A car that is no big deal over here seems to be thought of much more highly in the US
