http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs If I were buying I'd get the middle one £428 .. huge spec for the money and reputable firm, offer ends at midnight but they always have one offer or another on, but £400'ish is spot on to get someting worthwhile |
Have just seen this at pc world, would this be better than the dell one? ADVENT 7110 Laptop - ADVENT 7110 INTEL PENTIUM M 735A PROCESSOR 1.70GHz LAPTOP |
have been using and recommending Dells for years. On one right now at work, my third dell laptop here, and have one at home, plus a desktop. Good build, generally good service, reputable name brand. Advent is an unknown to me. Specs alone do not equal high cost performance, but in this case a good track record counts more I would think. Dell must have a good name in Europe as well as here in Japan as I noted many posters suggesting that brand. |
Looks like I should go for Dell then |
dell are advertising laptops from 299 + vat.... a great price but make sure you dont get 'tricked' into all the other stuff if you dont want/ need it such as home support etc. that racks up the prices hugely. as a basic purchase its hard to beat in my view andy |
PC World today £199. |

Grab an Acer. A couple of good spec Laptops in your range. Rgds, Rob |
Go to ebay and check out HP MarketPlace UK This is were Hewlett Packard sell there factory returns and refurbished laptops and PC's. Around 18 months ago I bought a Compaq Presario Lap Tap that was on sale in PC World and others at £950 to £1000. I paid just under £600 including full 12 month warranty and genuine software that can be updated etc etc Never had a problem with the machine, and if I did I know I could get parts for it. Not a lot on sale at the moment as it's Christmas and this is a business seller so it's worth while checking out the items for sale in the New Year. They have this for sale at the moment, looks good and in your budget at the moment ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260068789325&ru=http%3 A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dl l%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D260068789325%26fvi%3D1 |
Also, this is a good deal and just within your budget http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/889047 |
I've just advised a friend to go for an Acer - and the one he choose is a sweet piece of kit. Comet had a good deal but Staples had a similar deal so he went there - links below: http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/c...categoryId=572 http://www.staples.co.uk/ENG/Catalog...CL%5FLapt ops Goodluck - Frank |
Do a search on Ebay for the username "DELLFACTORYOUTLET" Basically they are all reconditioned or slightly damaged PC's, Laptops and monitors that sell very reasonably and all come with 12 months Dell warranty. I got my £2,200 laptop for £800 and it only has the tinest of marks on the front. |
Sadly - the factory outlet arent showing at laptop at the moment but, its a good call: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZdellfactoryoutlet Fingers Franko ;) |

Keep checking....... When I was looking for mine they listed approx 20 items every day on 1-day auctions and they appeared to arrive on Ebay from 12noon onwards. The laptops were all the 'better spec' i.e. if you looked on their website and built your own system from the choices, you got 3 options on RAM memory and 2 options on battery and 3 options on Hard-drive size etc. On the factory outlet items they all appeared to have the top level option fitted. Basically I looked at what they had on Ebay, built the same system on Dell.com to get a retail price and then pegged my bid at what I felt I would be willing to pay for said item. Well chuffed with my 2048MB RAM Inspiron 9400 17" beastie with double size drive and battery ,GC |
Keep things in perspective though chaps. It's a cheap laptop for his daughter..which means mp3's, MS Messenger and some surfing. Go down Woolies - they have Fujitsu laptops for £399. Not the best machines for sure - but reputable all the same and it's on the high street which means that it's easy to get comeback if it goes wrong. |

Yes but you could get a good spec one on the Dell Outlet for £150 with 12 months Dell warranty......the options available serve both ends of the price/specification spectrum... Just another option to consider...... |
