BMF Appeal Run - Ducatis needed! Now come on all you local folks (200 mile radius  ) it's that time of year again where the local BMF Rep organises a short run made up of a number of bikes (111 last year!) starting at the Burger King in King's Lynn and ending up at the town hall for tea & biscuits with the Mayor. It's an appeal run to raise food for the old folk at christmas and participants are asked to bring along items found in an Xmas hamper. It's good publicity for bikes and they even send along some of Norfolks finest to block off roads to ensure an nice smooth run. I thought it was very nice of the "boys in blue" to give each bike a good looking over whilst we were up having tea with the Mayor last year :o So come on you fellow Ducati riders- let's make an effort to drown out some of those rice burners and prove to people what a good hearted bunch of superior beings we are :P The run is on November 22nd and starts at 2pm from the BK just off the A47/A10 roundabout in King's Lynn (Norfolk) Mark |
Sounds like a good one Mark, At presant Im unsure as to whether I could make it what with commitments down my neck of the woods ,but if --------- Regards Fordie:sing: |
Mmmmm, big response ! :( No it might not be appealing to ride alongside a bunch of Jap bikes. No there's nothing in it for you. No you don't have to bother. No you won't know anyone. Yes there are better things to do.:mad::mad::mad::mad: It'll be a poor show if the best Ducati club in the UK is only represented by 1 person. Not likely to get a mention in the local press- who knows we exist? 'Nuff said. Off soapbox. Mark |
Oiy! If someone accompanies me from Notts I'll go! My Dad has given me permission!:D |
If keefyboy can get a pass we are going for a bimble up to Grantham. We could meet up with you towards Notts if you like. If you've got someone to accompany you then we'll meet in Grantham anyway. C'mon let's rally the troops  Mark |
Sorry Mark I'd be there if I could mate. :borg: |
Oiy! Notts lot...You comin or what? ![]() |
psy. I know you would m8. Get yerself fit & well for the BMF Show. Hopefully if we can get a few more enthusiastic members to support this BMF event we'll get recognition from them and therefore a better stand area. ;) I don't think many people realise what the BMF is all about. They provide legal advice, have many member discounts and lobby the Government to try and maintain our rights as bikers. As our club is an affiliated member I feel we should make an effort to support them and promote bikes in events such as this. :) Mark |

:(:(:(:( |
How many people use this board? :o I was the only person on a Duke last year out of 111 bikes apart from one guy on a relic. Guess who's bike everyone was looking at. I think it must be a rare thing seeing a ducati on an event such as this. It did p!$$ down last year and I did get a wittle bit of dirt on my pwetty wed bike. I dare say if it's sunny there may be some of you who make a last minute decision to come which will be great. My no. is 07771 825426. Mark |
Working, otherwise I'd love to have a run over with Lisa. It must be said Lisa that I'd follow you anywhere......mainly out of idle curiosity......:lol::lol: Andy |
Sorry Mark,my services are required elswhere, and none of it envolves bikes, beer or sex.Although I may get some of the last two items if I'm a good boy!;) Have a good day's riding. |
Weather looks $h!te anyhow :( Never mind, even better publicity :D I think I'll wear me rainsuit this year and try not to second guess the Big Guy up there  Mark |

Hmm,if its as bad at your place as it is here, water wings and flippers will be in order!:o |
Mark,Oh how I would love to give the bike a run across to King's Lynn but the weather is bad here and Mrs Fordie has me earmarked for other duties, like carting the old kitchin bits to the tip,so it looks like Im going to get wet what ever:mad:.Hope the weather breaks on the run in for tea and bikkies with yer man. Regards Fordie;) |
Bismillah arhman Eraheem! ...means god keep me safe on this new journey...(urdu) Will b thinking of you whilst whilst i break bread with my old Pa! Safe riding babe! Lisax |
Well here's the lowdown on the day for all those keeping up with this post. I did the shopping trip to the local store and filled the basket with tins of corned beef, ham, salmon. tuna, beans, fruit, Frey Bentos pies, rice puddin', etc. etc. etc. Started the bike up and then proceded to put numerous layers on with the 1 piece waterproofs on top. Hauled the rucksack on my back and mounted the 996. Upon reaching the top of my road I flipped my visor down only to break the dodgy clip to secure it (Arai). No time to change visors as I'm running late so a quick blast the 5 miles or so to the meeting point. Plenty of bikes in the car park and I pull in to a quiet corner. A quick head count is done and there's about 90+ bikes- down on last year, but the weather is awfull. I spot a 900 then I hear another Ducati arrive- it's a 996 ! Another 900 arrives so that's 4 Duc's including me. We're summoned to a quick briefing by plod who starts off by saying "Nice to see so many bikes here in this weather- there's even some DUCATIS" Cheeky *@!t. I sit back and wait for the insignificants to go first and I end up 3rd from back. (after being 3rd from the front last year I was advised to go at the back for a faster run) The pace is desperately slow and I don't get out of 1st gear until we're out of the town. Nevertheless it's a bit of a stop start affair the whole way with a maximum speed of 55 reached for any distance. The whole convoy moves as fast as the slowest person and it was a toss up between one of the plastic pig 3 wheelers and some home made jobbie  Anyway back to the Town Hall and the Mayor thanks us for our efforts. I wander over and speak to the guy I saw on the 996 and his pilion. We get yakking about Ducs and what do you know-- he's only in the DOC and is thinking about setting up a meeting locally. His missus asks me if I'm in "The Ducati" Club- "yes" I reply, "The Ducati Sporting Club". "oh, who are they ?" he asks. Conversation over really. Bit difficult to tell him what a freindly bunch we are by myself. No point telling him how we have regular meets, how everyone joins in, and why he should be in our club instead. Can't prove any of it. :( Maybee next year we can get a decent showing from the DSC as it will be the 10th annual run of this event. I'll be doing it- will you? Much respect for the cops as they did a great job holding up the traffic and they had to ride back to the other side of Norwich- Which was good as they didn't have time to check out me Termis' or measure me plate.:lol::lol::lol: Mark |
maybe you should join the DOC then mate ..??? Only kidding ...... :sing: |
Sounds like you done us proud again Mark, good work.:) |
Thanks for the advice Dibble. |
Bless you! Glad that you're back safe and now dry... Will def come next year when I have had more practise! :saint: |
KB , practice? practicing wot Lisa, gettin wet, stayin dry, wot other practicin do u need to put in????? Im in for next year on this one, shame its in Nov. but can I bring 1/2 doz cans corned beef, and beans and sausages, not room for more in me piddly little rucksack. Well done to those that did turn up, all 4 of you. Shame that you max'd out at 55 miles per thingy, but at least Mr Plod smiled on you rgds mort:roll::roll: |
Lot's...I'm a toddler compared to lots on this site...And people worry about me travelling so far on my own, in the dark... Ahhhhhh!;) |
Thanks for the support folks. It was easy for me compared to some who attended. One girl rode up from London by herself and rode back afterwards. :o Maybee next year we can make it a bit of an event and people stay overnight so we can all go out on the town for a couple of shandys once we've thawed out. Mark |
I was thinking of coming then noticed the date!! Don't they usually do these 'for good causes' runs around Xmas time? I believe we have one in the New Forest around that time - would you like to join? Bit more than 5 miles though....;) Total respect to you for keeping our end up.
