Desmo Due 2016 - Tyres Desmo Due 2016 - Tyres I am pleased to announce that the Desmo Due series will be continuing its association with Dunlop tyres as I have now signed a contract with them for the next two years. I have also decided it is now the right time to allow the use of wet weather tyres for the first time in the series history, as such we are now signed up with Dunlop UK Ltd’s Motorsport division. So not only will be using their well proven KR Wets we will also be using as our dry control tyre their Alpha 13 tyres, both being supplied to us at a preferential price through Dennis Trollope Racing. A couple of months ago at the NEC bike show at least one of these tyre didn’t exist and has been produced to suit our bikes. So for 2016 and 2017 the control tyres will be Dry Front 120/70R17 58H TL SX A-13 H Rear 160/60R17 69H Compounds to be specified by Dunlop Motorsport Wet Front 120/70R17 KR189 Rear 165/55R17 KR389 As Dennis Trollope Racing will need to place an order with Dunlop in plenty of time for the first meeting I need to be able to supply Dennis with a list of those registered for the series before then From the latest information that I have 21 people have so far paid the registration fee to take part in Desmo Due in 2016 of which 16 have sent in a registration form. Two bits of information on the Form are a must, these being ACU or SACU Race Licence number and DSC Membership number so these can be given to both Dunlop and DTR so they can check eligibility for the purchase of the Discounted Tyres which are £189.00 per set inclusive of VAT. You will need to either pre order tyres and have them taken to the meeting and fitted to your wheels or DTR will ship them to you at the cost of £12 a set P&P, once he has stock available. Riders below have either completed the registration process of have only done the payment side of things. #2 Steve Baden (Form received) # 4 Alan Ball (Form received) #7 Graeme Smith (Form received) #8 Mark Hamilton (Form received) #13 Martin Cox (Form received) #18 Lee Moxham (Form received) #21 Andy Taylor (Form received) #23 Stafford Evans (Form received) #25 Giles Hepworth (Form received) #27 #1 Dallas Hornblow (Form received) #31 Miles Watson-Cort (Form received) #40 Andy Mackintosh (Form received) #51 Pete Pritchard (Form received) #55 James Robinson (Form received) #57 Marcus Deeley (Form received) #60 Jack Younge (Form received) #63 Charlie Burke(Form received) #68 Paul Payne (Form received) #69 Andy Blomfield (Form received) #81 Mark Jackson (Form received) #88 Kevin Ellis (Form received) #tba Duncan Baille (Form received) #41 Steve Mason (No Registration Form yet) #44 Rodney King (No Registration Form yet) #50 Scott Wilson (No Registration Form yet) #74 Neal Catling (No Registration Form yet) |
Awesome, cheers for all the hard work Kev :) I totally look forward to trying the new Alpha 13s, and not so much the Wets... |
Sorry, I've been a bit slow on the admonition, will sort it out this weekend |
Nice one Kev. Great news. |
am all sorted payment made and form scanned and sent over by email... ;o)) just need some new tyres now! and somebody to buy 2 sets of 'old' new tyres! |
YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS:burn: Top news Kev |
good stuff- and got some dunlop stickers on bike already - will I be able to get my last few quids worth out of the old tyres at start of season and can we have some nice dunlop wooly hats? |
2016 Tyres Kev, any word from Dunlop when the tyres will be available. Think it might be a good idea to get them fitted ready for the start of the season, I can see DTR being very busy first thing at Brands. |
I would like to get a completed list of Entrants to DTR asap so he can then workout how big an order he needs to place with Dunlop At the moment I only have 20 registration forms from the 25 that have paid And out of those 20 there are 7 without DSC membership numbers, ACU/SACU licence numbers or both. So in reality I have 13 completed forms. The first meeting may be a couple of months away buy Dunlop have to get the tyres shipped over from Japan so an order will need to be placed before the end of this month, the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. |
Just booked the Brands ACU test day on the Friday so I will need something to put on the wheels before that..... ;) Just hope I wont need snow tyres  |
Payment and form sent |

2 Attachment(s) Dennis Trollope Racing (DTR) now have 30 or so sets of tyres in stock, they also now have a list of all those so far registered for DD 2016 While I was there today I picked myself up a set of each, both Alpha 13s and KR189/389 Wets I have attached a photo of the tyres and also DTRs business card which has both the telephone number to order on and also the email address |
Has anyone tried to send an email to his email address as mine keep getting returned or is it my shite Internet connection? |
Not tried Lee but I notice on the NGRRC website the email has a capital D at the start of the email address Mail Order Service- First Class Service- DHL- Special Delivery- Sevice Van At Meetings 131 Station Road, Kingswood, Bristol, BS15 4XX Telephone 01179 570821 and 01179 675737 email Dennis@dennistrollope.wanadoo.co.uk |
Kev apparently it is all in lowercase but I can't verify that as I never got through and had to phone. The reason they didn't get the email is their inbox was full? |
Tyres ordered - woohoo. Its going to rain next week so I can test the wets out on the road bike! |
Just ordered my tyres :) |
The ending of a (very good) control tyre which can handle all conditions at all times was one of the very best things about the DesmoDue series. It is a great shame that this has gone and the penny will drop with some riders once the season begins just what has been lost. |

I mainly agree Martin, the series was brilliant when it was on the Diablo control tyres that it ran for when the series started and for several years until the Diablo was discontinued, back then we had 40 plus entries per meeting. The change to the Rosso was a step backwards and is the only Z rated tyre we have had. The D209GP Qualifier was a fantastic tyre in the dry but nowhere nar as good as the Diablo in the wet but with the Qualifier discontinued and then the move to the Sport Smart2 I think was a step backwards backed up by the declining grid sizes, with only 16 taking part at Pembrey for rd3. And by the end of the year we were down to 14 registered entrants at the final Pembrey round with 2 guest riders, just enough to secure our own grid. We stuck with a single tyre rule for 11 years ( I know as I have done all but 3 meetings in that time) and in that period we have watched the grid sizes drop, had numerous calls for the introduction of wets, with riders voting with their feet and going elsewhere and we have seen two hosting clubs go to the wall and if DD didn't want to follow them we needed another club that could host us but with out the grid sizes we previously enjoyed DD no longer had the right to expect its own grid at every meeting so at times and depending on numbers DD will be sharing grids with other classes that are allowed to use Wets and in the interests of both safety and in an attempt to boost grid numbers we have also decided that introducing Wets is the way to go. |
As someone who has also been in DD from the start, I can see both sides of the tyre issue. It will be interesting to see how the season pans out, and I think its good that DD has decided to try something different in an attempt to revitalise the series. Paul |
Initial thoughts after Brands Hatch are that the tyres are a huge improvement on last years and felt a lot more like a 'race' tyre than a 'road' tyre! Should be even bigger difference when it warms up a bit too! |
