888 single seat......... Can anyone help? I am looking to change my 900SS for an 888. I am having a look at a '94 Strada at the weekend and was wondering if it's possible to fit an SP single seat without having to change the sub frame? The seat will cost enough money without having to find a sub frame too. Cheers........... |
Dave, There are single seat pattern coppies that you can fit to the Strada. I found a painted carbon one the other day if you're not committed to the Gen SP route already. I'll dig out the phone number if you're interested. Rgds, Rob |
Thanks Rob, If you've got a phone number I'd appreciate it......... Would you happen to know whether my rearsets from the 900ss would fit on the 888? I would (obviously) like an SP but they are few and far between, and big bucks when available..... Dave. |
Dave, the footpegs on my girlfriend's carbed 750ss and my (1992) 851 & (1993) 888 all have 70mm between the mounting bolts, so should bolt on ok. The main difference I can see is that the 851 & 888 ones are more angled. Hope that this helps Paul |

Thanks for your help fellas. If you hear of any reasonably priced SP4/5's around please let me know. Dave. |
If I find one I'd probably buy it.:sing: |
Im after this info also !! Ive heard diffeent stories from different people...some say you have to sut the subframe, soome say you dont. Im not going to bother if I have to cut the frame. BTW..aberdeen m/c's sent me a picture of that single seat and its been chopped about (looks like a superlight/ss seat now!) so I wouldnt bother.. Let us both know chaps if you can shed any light on the single seat fitment to stradas..cheers !! |
oh ****..that picture came out a bit big !! How do I get attach one of my personal pictures as an avatar ??!!:( |
Hmm,just raiding my memory banks here. I seem to remember the SP seat will go onto the Strada subframe but the mounting points are differant. You will have to make some sort of bracket up to support it.You also lose the underseat storage. |
I'm planning to get a single seat for my 888 strada. I have it on authority from Steve at moto rapido that the only thing you have to cut on the subframe is the horizontal bar that sits above the locking mechanism as it gets in the way and then would have to weld another peice across lower down, not a big or epxensive job! Its on my list of things to do this spring! |
I dont think there's such thing as a reasonably priced SP4/5 !:D If I did see one i'd keep my trap shut and buy it myself! Preferably an SP5 and then I'd fit Ohlins forks. However, if I saw an SPS, well......:) |

Hey! you guys. I have the SP5 single seat unit on my strada, as pictured. No major works, just fitted a couple of brackets to support the fixing points under the seat back cushion section. I'll draw a diagram and post it hopefully this weekend to explain. |

Ah yes,its all coming back to me now. Thanks Pitcrew,I was doubting myself for a while there. |
888 seat Pitcrew..that info would be well handy mate..Nat |
I've just been on the phone to QB carbon - they won't be going to Ally Pally Superbike show this year, but will still do a deal if we want to order a number of seat units. As with most things, the price depends on the quantity...... As I recall their normal price was £150 for fibreglass and £250 for carbon. If anyone is interested in joining forces then drop me a mail (not U2U as I can't seem to access it?). Cheers Paul |
Hi Paul Just e-mailed you ref;seat. Prices were (as of november) £150 and £239 PLUS the dreaded. They better get there pencil sharpeners out I think !!! Anyone priced up an OE item (assuming there still available)?? Nat |

I will send some pics down of my seat unit singular mode to speed up the send. If anybody needs help individually with more detail or require the brackets, send me a u2u. Good luck with the change, it certainly makes the bike totally racey looking. Pic 1 - Angle brackets fitting, with old lock removed. |
Pic 2 - shows the strengthener bars added to support the tail section, with good old pipe lagging to soften the support. |
Pic 3 - shows the holes drilled into the seat fixtures onto the L shaped support brackets. The centre hole is where the back support locates. |
Pic 4 - Underside of the seat fixing points |
Pic 5 - testing is critical once fitted!! |
Nice one pitcrew..really useful mate. Wish Paul luck in securing a deal for us  Nat |
Pitcrew You have a U2U...more seat help required :( Cheers! Nat |
