Advice on some parts Im after please I want to get the following for the bike to either tidy it up a bit; Chain and sprockets Sprocket nuts Both hub nuts for the rear wheel. Can anyone recomend any please? I idealy would like a black sprocket carrier, gold chain and sprockets, and some nuts that wont corrode like steel! Cheers |
Bill Buy a good quality brand name chain & sprockets and you wont have any problems, as for the sprocket nut, either use A4 S/S or if your flush tittanium. Personaly I have a great fear of using alli nuts and bolts on a bike - period! I would suggest Tittanium nuts for the rear wheel, you can get them from Tecmoto and allthough not cheap, there probably the best option, Pro bolts/tasy nouts do them as well. Good Luck. |
Cheers for the reply Should sprocket nuts be wire locked? Mine are but I havnt seen it done on any other road ones! |
Try Nelly of Cornerspeed for stainless steel nuts. |
Nelly's stainless wheel nuts are superb.Highly recommended. |

Billy I have my sprocket nuts lock wired but only coz it looks nice and I have the tool to do it with along with S/S wire, for normal use its not necessary. |
Jasper Does Nelly do the correct size (46mm) rear wheel nut either in S/S or Ti? |
Stainless, bi-hexagonal, very Gucci!!!!! Won't fit my ST4S tho......:( |
Yes,stainless steel. Two rear and one front in bi-hex.Lovely pieces of kit and don't mark up/corrode like ally ones. |
Can anyone please tell me where on earth I can buy the sockets I need to remove the rear wheel and the sprocket carrier? Largest ive found anywhere so far is only a 32mm! Am I right in saying i need a 41mm and a 46mm? Cheers Joel |
Could try here http://www.primetools.co.uk/pages/displaycat.asp?271 These are 3/4" drive so you will probably need a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter |
Billy - try Harry (HTB) for your sockets, he has some sets made up and may have some left. Top quality. |
Or Halfords or your local Discount Motor Spares shop. There are a couple of inch sockets that do the job at low prices. Rgds, Rob |
If you get them from a tool shop you might need to get the shoulder turned off them so they sit right onto the nut. |
Billy Try to find a very cheap tool shop/store. I got my sockets from a trade show stand, the type that sells all sorts of tools chaep, there with 3/4 drive and cost me £5 each and a 1/2 to 3/4 adaptor cost me £4. I had the Chaps at work skim the sockets so that they fittes straight on the socket, ie removed the bevel from inside the socket. |
