Has anyone ever changed a 998S airbox? I used to take the airbox off my old 916s and 996s in minutes. On Sunday I replaced the one on my racebike for a Carbon one - 2 hours!!! Can't believe how fiddly it is now that the injection system is up in the airbox! |
Anything to watch out for mate? Will be doing this soon too. |
Hi Yella Last time I saw you, you had an old track bike and were complaining about having to sell-up because of lack of cash. When did you get the 998S? Details? I found the following problems (all to do with the fact the fuelling system is now in the airbox): 1. Lugs break off the fuel pipe release too-easily 2. Fuel pipe and electrical grommets are a nightmare to prise-out of old airbox and put in new (buy spares before you start It's all-round just a VERY fiddly job compared to a 916/996 |
It depends on how you tackle it. I just pressed the release thingy on the fuel line, you will find this right at the point of entry into the airbox. Pull off the electrical connections with the std press type release, then just twist the two ellmouths off without disturbing the injectors . If I remember right, it only take something like a quarter or less twist in a clockwise direction. Don't be tempted to remove the injectors from the carrier or the carrier from the bellmouths! very fragile!!!!!!!! [Edited on 10-4-2004 by Jon] |
998adict I just fitted a D.P C/f air box to my 998s mono and also fitted JHP under tank filters as well, if you need any advice please ask me. |
You cheeky sod Addict, That OLD track bike was my 1999 996 in track trim and I loved it. Bought a house in between our last meeting and now so the biking carries on. No track bike this year though. Found a decent priced, low mileage, mint 998 BIP and picked it up last week but the S is my mate Jokers. He has got all the carbon but we will be tackling fitting it together. Will get some spare grommits and be v careful with the fuel pipe release. Bob, Your pics are great. Will be of great help when we start I am sure. If I need to get in touch for help I will u2u you if thats OK. Was thinking more of the replacement tube filters from pipercross rather than the ones you have fitted. Regards Geoff |
Old Yella When you say "Tube Filters" do you mean the one that goes under the tank and connects between the intakes in the airbox, sort of like a big gray sausage or ones can co in the air tubes themselves. If its the undertank one, as I suspect, JHP don`t do it any more as I believe they had the odd problem with them, hence the change to the K&N type filters that are still made by Pipercross and of superb quality.:) |
Was led to believe that piper cross do a replacement for the OE type filter which fits in the air tube as per standard which are pretty damn good? Any comments will be appreciated. Realy would like to stay away from the under tank stuff if poss. |
Pipercross do indeed do a better version of the OEM filters - MPX038 at around 18 quid from Pipercross suppliers, including Demon Tweeks. Read this for the discussion: http://ducatisportingclub.com/contro...d.php?tid=6903 |
I found the 998 airbox easier to work on than the 748RS, but yes it is a bit more complicated than doing the one on my 916 |
Kev Which filters did you get in the end? I was looking at two options now, the piper cross ones Ant mentions and thes from Motowheels in the states, Looking like the OE replacements but like the look of the Motowheels ones but they dont have the swept area of the OE type. |
OY, Haven't managed to catch up with Khush lately so haven't got the new filters for the 916 yet. As for the 998BP I will start with the OEM setup and see what I think |
