snapped side stand has this happened to anyone else? i was putting the rain cover on my 748 tonight and the side stand gave way!! luckily it fell against a fence so the damage isn't as bad as it could have been, a few scratches and a broken mirror. i had a look and the bracket that attaches from the side stand to the engine has snapped:( can this be bought seprate or do i have to buy the whole stand? joe. |
Bad luck, mate. You're not the first one. Available seperately: part number 556.2.025.1A, but check with your dealer to be sure. |
cheers felix, will check it out tomarrow. i'd a feeling i wouldn't be the first one this has happened to! oh the joys of owning a ducati:lol: joe. |
Joe Sorry to hear the news. You must be sick. How old is your bike and does (did) it have a spring-loaded stand or had it been modded? |
Hi sorry to hear the news Let me konw if I can help in any way ! Trev:( |
micheal it's a '99 748,the stand was spring loaded, the dealer i bought it of told me it was modded not to flick up on it's own. cheers for the offer trevor. have u a spare side stand laying around? :D i'm not that worried about it to be honest, it could have been a lot worse if it had of missed the fence and hit the ground!! i'm more ****ed off at brushing a metal gate yesterday, taking about 8 inches of paint of the rear seat:mad: and having to replace the front wheel bearings when fitting new tyres. all in the space of a few days. not having much luck lately.:( joe. |
Joe, I have a new bracket in stock, as well as the clip and nut to stop the stand flicking up. The brackets aren't cheap though, but I'll do what I can for you. Mail me if you're interested. Also, check the threads where the bracket fastenes to the engine. The breakage could be down to the stand coming loose on these mounting points, and moving around more than it should've have. |
thanks for the kind offer nelly;) thats exactly what happened mate! one of the bolts(the bottom one) had came lose and bent which caused the bracket to snap! i'll go check the treads now. the stands fine it's just the bracket i need. i priced it at my local dealer £63 plus VAT. is that ok? cheers, joe. |
That sounds about right. Not cheap. Mail me or give me a call. I can do better than that for you ;) |
Nelly whats this mod that stops the stand flicking up? Will it fit my '95 748bp? Oh that screen looks ace, cheers for sorting that for me. The Digig took a bit more head scratching but I got it sussed in the end too!! Billy |
Just a word of warning if you are a dozey bugger like me. Last year by passed the kill switch on the stand on mine. Result about 5 months later out in Wales forgot side stand and ended up in a ditch:mad: So i converted mine to the flick up type, so far so good as it keeps me out of ditches. Thought this was just me but i was out side jhp the one day and someone went to do the same thing, managed to stop him in time:o I know the flick up ones can be a pain but unless you have a good short term memory be careful;) Mark |
on mine the bracket and bolts both seem fine, but the bike is definatly starting to lean over a lot further than when i first got it. if i fill up with petrol (to the level specified in the manual) and put the bike on the side stand the petrol leaks out of the over flow!! |
The flip up stands can be prevented from flipping up by using the plate and nut from the later bikes, that have the switch fitted. Simple mod and doesn't cost much at all. Using Ducati parts is a lot cheaper than the "special" kits floating about. The switches can be bypassed using a simple loom or even simple electrical mods that allow the bike to be started but cut the engine if the bike is placed in gear with the stand down. Glad you're pleased with the bits Billy. |
Glynn, it shouldnt leak like that. The filler cap should seal the tank. Mine used to leak till Neil changed the fuel filter now i can fill it right up to the brim and it doesnt leak no matter how far over it leans. Something needs looking at on your me thinks. |
