new engine wanted.... Does anyone have, or know of, a good standard carb 900ss engine for sale? Alternatively, a 900ssie with injectors? Reason is that mine blew up on the way to Nelly's...... On the bright side, I quit my job on Wednesday! cheers, Chi |
Give Jim at Bike-Enders a call on Tuesday, his number is 01708 455530 |
Oh NOooooo Chi...hope u r OK marra ??? There are some engines going on the infernal ebay... But here is my thread link from the breakers list I did last year.. http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/co...d.php?tid=5327 Good Luck |
Heres the one I was thinking of...but its a bit old !!! Even older then mine !!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tegory=10 448 ps - I have a spare pair of 900 carbs if needed. [Edited on 11-4-2004 by Iconic944ss] |
Do you know why it happened yet? |
thanks Frank. Nelly has looked into that particular engine but ruled it out on the age and mileage. I was enquiring, just in case anyone had one sitting in their shed. If anyone knows of one, can you pass the details onto Nelly. The existing one is toast - went pop on the M1. No oil circulation turned the piston a different colour. Too much damage to repair. May be able to salvage some bits off it, but not holding my breath.... a sad Chi |
Sorry Bud I've looked all over and draw a blank in the classified....looks like a breaker I'm afraid... Dr.Desmo has some unspecified stuff on his website....might be worth a call. http://www.dr-desmo-ducati.co.uk Good luck |
Just one thought.....the std barrels and pistons came along with my 944 when I bought I. I was going to keep them incase something just like this happened..... But a friend in need etc etc :D If you need 'em - drop me a line ! |
As per Skidlids pointer.....bike-enders have a low mileage (9000) 750 SSIE being broken...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tegory=10 448 |
Chi Red lights means danger m8. espeshully when doin 80 or so I seen the results, not a pretty sight, I can tell you But hopefully wiff all the m8's here it'll soon be up and runnin wiff a likkle of Nelly's magic, unfortunately he cant unweld a seized crank and pistons feelin fer you rgds mort :(:( |
haha - thanks mort. Maybe we should take some pictures and post them on the board as a warning! Hope you liked the rest of the bike anyway! Frank - appreciate the offer. May take you up on the barrels and pistons, depending on what Nelly turns up. We did look at the possibility of putting an ie engine but, but might be a mod too far! I'll be back with running updates. best, Chi |
|
thanks Darren - looking into it. One guess who I got a u2u from about this already (a clue - he works shifts!) |
Hi Chi, Just had a quick look through MCN....Blacks in Ormskirk are selling 3 inj motors - 750/900 & a 900 Monster..... Read what you wrote earlier and wonder if an inj engine could be fitted with Carbs???? What was Nellies opinion? F |
I've had a brief look at dropping an injected motor in, as Chi mentioned, in both car'd and injected guises. The full on injected root raises alsorts of problems, not completely unsurmountable, but complicated. The "old style" tank has no provision for an injection pump, so this would need to be found a home. The ECU, ignition, FI system and loom need to be fitted and the airbox needs to take the throttles and bellmouths. The list goes on. All are probably acheivable but time and £'s would soon mount up I guess. Other than being told fitting carbs to the injection motor "is more trouble than it'd be worth", the main stumbling block I can see is the ignition. The carb'd engine uses two pick ups and triggers off the flywheel. The injected motor uses the inductive pick up, ala all the FI motors and the ECU fires the coils. This could be got around by using the flywheel off the early engine, but I don't believe it's that simple??? I'm sure the crank is different. The motor Chi is chasing is a good buy for the money and I reckon the money saved will be more than enough for a few tweaks he has in mind to make it a nice little motor ;) Chi, do you really want some pictures posting up?????? :o |
the ie route sounded like a really cool idea for about 2 days before Nelly came back to me with the bad news. Anyone who does this will be guaranteed to have the only one in the world! Nelly - I'm quite happy to have pics posted but perhaps we should check with board members if they want to see such wince-inducing pics first! |
yay! I got me an engine :D Big thanks for all the leads guys. Just have to work out with Nelly what to do with it now :sing::sing::sing: |
He does a nice line in big lumpy pistons! Ask Mort....... |
chi as the engines out at the mo, why noy ave some supadupa hi comp pistons fitted Nelly can get and fit at a reasonable price, but as yer on the dole now, maybe have to raid the piggy bank first:lol::lol: go on, you know you want it bestest mort:roll::roll: |
mmmmmm.....hi-comp pistons...... Like you said - since the engine is out at the moment, it makes sense to do some work on it now and avoid dropping it out again later. I've already got a new job lined up and I've squirrelled away enough for a decent budget. Even so, I'm probably not going to be able to afford to do everything that I would like this go around. Any views on what mods will give me most bang for bucks? A very happy chicken |
Lightweight flywheel has got to be top of the list. Doesn't give more power but lets the engine spin up faster and makes it feel like its got ten extra horses in there just bursting to get out.... Should be around £100 or so plus the 50p Nelly's bound to charge for fitting it. Personally I think I'd go for a big bore over the plain hi-comp pistons. It'll cost more for the rebore and replating but the 944 pistons are higher compression as standard as well as being larger. As our colonial cousins are fond of pointing out, "There ain't no substitute for cubic inches". Then you could get some porting work done and a set of Keihins would be nice too. How 'bout biigger valves as well. Lightweight clutch, although it won't be as noticeable as the flywheel 'cos it doesn't rotate as fast. Skies the limit with the 2-valve and since you're flush could I borrow a few quid please....? :saint: |
Glad to here you are getting sorted Marra. Hmmmm.....Baines Racing didnt think much of my 944cc kit when I was asking about Malossi inlet. They said to junk it and concentrate on head /inlet / Carb work, so go figure ??? Piccies of damage please ?????? Frank |

Did they say why Frank? |
I got the impression that from a tuning standpoint it was much better to start with a standard bore engine. But they didnt say anything specifically. Trade secret I guess. |
Here you go Chi. This is the horizontal piston, rod and what's left of the big end cap. |
and another......... |
:o:(:o:(:o:(:o:(....... I was hoping to use what was left of the pistons as ashtrays but looks like that's not going to happen now! Darren, happy to lend you any amount you want (did I say that my new job is loan-sharking?!) Nelly, have sent u2u. [Edited on 17-4-2004 by chicken] |
and here's a shot down the engine casing. It's a bit blurred, but you can just make out the blueing of the crank pin and the webs. There's some serious heat been built up there :o |
Nothing that a bit of Chemical Metal couldn't deal with surely...? |
Chi thats some serious lack of oil m8 that caused that then!!!! get the hi comp pistons, a 48 tooth clutch plate cover, a 944 big bore kit and a lightweight flywheeel hope granny left you loads in her will?? try the hi comp pistons first, you wont be dissappointed rgds hi comp mort |
