Just been watching the lap-by-lap timings on eurosport.co.uk for race 2, which despite no picture was quite entertaining. Wish I could have seen it on telly :(

Keep it quiet at the back!!

chrisw 18-Apr-2004 15:51

Frankie

Chili called his bike a 998.5 cos he had stuck a 999's engine in it. Still a great race to say how far back he was.

Er, nothing to do with tyre choice then... given the rain/drying out track?

Eamonn 18-Apr-2004 16:16

Fantastic race !!!

Edge of the seat right to the end :D:D

MJS 18-Apr-2004 17:36

Who said WSB is dead? Does it ever get better than that - a stunning ride from Chili on the 998.5! And it's not as if Laconi wasn't trying - I'm surprised he had any rear tyre left after the way he was smoking it!! Can't wait for Monza....

955matt 18-Apr-2004 18:19

Looked like laconi was riding a speedway bike the amount of time he spent sidewards:lol:(if only i could do that with out falling off):o

Matt

fodder 18-Apr-2004 18:46

The fact that Chili is still competing and winning tells me that WSB is not quite what it was.
Enjoyed the 2nd race though.......

Nigel C 18-Apr-2004 20:52

:o Talk about P*****G on peoples fireworks Fodder Don't forget he won races when wsb was at its peak as well

Mark 18-Apr-2004 21:34

Erm, how about confining this to the correct thread heading, erm... racing.... thinking future referance that not everyone see's the racing same day.....

But, i agree, was a good race.

Dazza 18-Apr-2004 22:21

Dont knock Frankie. He's a great racer. Brilliant to see him win. That, and Rossi winning has made my day! :)

888heaven 18-Apr-2004 23:04

Chili

I only wish i could ride a bike like that at 40"""""""""""
and as for knocking him because there might be less comp etc Hodgson didnt either and everyone thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread.GP position???
give me Chili any-day.
best racing ive seen since Edwards/Bayliss WSB.
I hope he wins the title and retires on a high.

Ray 18-Apr-2004 23:11

He is da Man, imagine how much faster he would be if the bike was Red!!

WSB has been very unpredictable so far this year.

You could hear the crowd going beserk when Chilli was catchin Laconi. At one time Chilli was 15th!!

Ray.

fodder 19-Apr-2004 07:30

I'm not knocking anyone, I've always liked Chili. What i'm trying to say is that in how many other motor sport world championship events does a veteran on a 2 yr old machine win races? It's not about Chili it's about the quality of the field in general. He beat the factory boys which is a great achievement but just how good are the factory boys? :(
WSB used to be equal to Grands Prix racing now it's a very poor second and in dire need of a shake up and some real racing talent.
For the record I didn't rate Hodgson either.

with a 999 engine. what was it he called the bike? 998.5RS:lol:

I think it says a lot about the rider yesterday. I don't rate Laconi, and i never will. Toseland, is still young, and learning. I was surprised at some of the performances of some of the riders. But as Emmett proved at Silverstone, the 999 lacks a lot of front end feel, esp in the wet. And Chili has said he can't get around the front end feel on the 999, why he's using the 998RS with the 999RS engine. Respect.
