Coils and bits?
 

If the worst comes to the worst,how much will replacement coils cost me ?
It may not come to that yet as I havent tested them, but I'd like to know what I could be looking at here.

Well....breakers are always an option but not one I'd recommend for coils....

Not sure which year yours is Dave but here are some options...

1) Ducati Dealer

2) Bulk retailer - M&P for example have a 'budget' coil at £20 that looks similar to my 900ss coil but, you'd have to check it out....

3) Specialist retailer...I've used Bosch coils in the past successfully from a specialist Diesel/auto electrical supplier - most big companies can supply equivalent items to original.

4) Aftermarket upgrade.....Dynatek coils are meant to be some of the best around...below is the application coil for my 93 900ss but they are £95 each I believe....TTS are the distributors for the UK I understand.

So ....apart from checking with either a dealer or perhaps the original equipment manufacture (dont know who it is actually)...we have a range of roughly £50 to £200

PS....most dyna coils will need slight mounting mods to make em fit!

If it is your coils I'd be tempted to pay Chris at California Cycleworks a visit and order his Dynacoil kit (With wires) http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/ca...cati/elec.html for $189 (£110+/-). The kit is a straight bolt-on unlike if you purchased the Dynacoils separately. The brackets don't fit the coils as standard apparently and need modifying. Chris has already done the work for you and cheaper than if you bought the bits over here.

You need to be aware of the 'deadly' import charges mind, shipping aint too bad normally.

Ive just found some brand new OE coils..part number 28540031A, box marked 900SS?? If there any good let me know and ill price them up..

I don't know if it'd make a difference Nat but those are coils off of a later 900SSie rather than the carbed SS.

Are you sure it's the coils? i had a similar problem a while back with my 750, it was always wetting the plugs and would go onto one cylinder for no apparent reason, pop the plugs out dry them brush off the soot and away it would go again, for a bout 50miles (if i was moving a bit) a lot less if i was in traffic. Turned out in the end it was the ignition pick up, had them both replaced and it ran OK, except it was still on the sooty side( everything was supposed to have been sorted, but I found out later that job I paid for was not half done and it cost a wedge of money) I wont put the name on here but if anyone in the West Mids wants to know u2u me:mad::mad::mad: I was told by a guy in Italy that the main fault with the pick ups was actually the wire, it is submerged in hot oil and this can effect it causing it to become brittle it then breaks but will stay in contact till everthing gets hot then lets go. his cure was to remove the wire from the pick up and replace it with aircraft quality wire (PTFE coated) that is supposed to do the trick, it stands up to much higher temperatures. well that's my twopennorth, I feel a siesta coming on:lol::lol::lol:

I find most of these electrical things baffling and have taken the coils off and am taking them to a local dealer to have them tested,that way I'll know one way or another.

I do like those red HT leads though,Hmm!:P

Hi Frank my 750 is a 97 model although it was registered in 98, I call it a 97 to save confusion with the SSie if i need to get parts
