First Track Day..... ???? Hi Guys, A bit of advise is needed please... I want to do a track day, but not sure what track I should start on??? HELP... Kelly :puzzled: |
Should have nabbed your old mans bike last Friday Kel and started at Cadwell  There is a thread about this somewhere in the trackdays section from a while ago. I normally suggest Brands Indy as a good place to start. It's got a blend of all sorts of different corners but most importantly, I think, is that as it's a short circuit you'll get plenty of laps in so it won't take too long to learn where you're going and to get comfortable. |
Cadwell was my first trackday and i loved it to bits! I would have been a bit lost without the marker cones though. Its not really a flat out top speed track like the airfield circuits so in that respect i guess its a little safer. There are a couple of bends where you have to commit slightly (the goosneck and coppice) but if you have got the bottle to do that then its fantastic. |
Shoulda got your kit on at cadwell firefly - but you know that already! (Can't believe I just told a chick to get her kit ON!!) Seriously, I don't think the venue matters, just start in the novice group and you'll have no trouble. There's absolutely no pressure to go faster than you're comfy with. Just a word of warning though..... make sure you can afford to do lots more - cos they're so addictive! |
I did my first one at Snetterton, sure it's fast, but it's easy to learn and it got me quite used to the idea of riding on a track rather than the road. |
Come up to Cadwell on 16th August Kel-you know we will look after you. John |
if I can do Cads, so can you! Just use Fils R not your nc;) |
I might just do that Monty :) Maybe see you there Kel x |
kelly if you are going in the novice group it shouldnt really matter what track you do....just ride at your own pace and you will love it.. just make sure if you do a track far away. its alway better to stay at a b@b just so you are not to worn out before you go on track.....riding to a track is not a good idea... what ever track you do have fun....................... |
whats pembrey like as a first track day? |

Jewell Pembrey is a excellent track to start with, I started my racing there as have a lot of my mates, and a few have done their first trackdays there. Phil Bevan runs several trackdays there each year and I have had a lot of comments about how well they are run. The last one a couple of weeks ago was attended by a couple of mates, Will from Wiz slideras was also there enjoying a trackday and no doubt testing his proucts. Steve Whitear of Peak Performance in Exeter booked 20+ people in for it. I really like the track (don't think WJB and Monty like it) shame its 160 odd mile away otherwise I would use it for testing more often. |

good stuff.well my aunt has a huge B&B(near haverfordwest) about 30 mins from the track so if i get some interest she might be able to put up about 5 or 6 peeps up for the night. just an iccle idea.:eureka::) |
I'd be up for that geeza! :sing: |
Here are a couple of links for Pembrey http://www.philbevanracing.co.uk/ Phil and Alan are currently looking into setting up a race school as well as doing the road racing and supermotard trackdays http://www.barc.net/pembrey.htm#events List from the circuit of who is running what and when |

kool. well thats me,you and mogwai.will be within the next 2 months hopefully. thx for the links skidlids. |
For those down in the South West that find Cadwell a bit far, then for £75 a day at Pembrey may suit you http://www.hottrax-online.com/produc...roducts_id=139 |
Snet is as good as any. The run off goes something like this: tarmac, old tarmac (airfield), grass, crops, cow, road. It might take you 1/2 mile to get to the road past the cow mind, so keep her upright, stay off the front brake and never mind the speeds, the circuit was my first and I went grass tracking half a dozen times. Thought riding a bike was easy-peasy. Mallory is good. Brands is a little of everything and I would say more people bin it there than Mallory or Snetterton. Cadwell is a hoot and quite testing. Rockingham a little featureless - especially if you have a pal along to watch. Any of the trés £ circuits will be a waste of time and money. On balance, the novice group at Mallory or Snetterton for my money (which it isn't!). |
