748 Bip Tyres (sorry its an old chestnut)

Greetings. Very new to this.

Recently picked up a 98 748 Bip and after lots of dosh on a badly serviced motor (belts adjusted so they rubbed together and silicone in oil ways due to wrong seals and three lunched rockers) am ready to sort tyres.

Got a supercorsa on the front and a dragon evo on the rear.

Any advice re tyres? - General use all weathers some short trips could do with something that warms up quick is grippy and inspires confidence.

Pausing for breath and waiting with anticipation!

BT010 every time!

Or you could go for the 012 or the 014 but the best compromise "road" tyre would be the 010.
S'funny! Never had a problem with Bridgestones, only ever come off of bikes equipped with Michelins!

Guy C 13-May-2004 21:20

Good one,

Sizes as per the book I take it.

Supercorsa looks like it might be a bit fruity in the wet, better to ask eh!

Ta again

Any one know anything about rennsports?

Been offered a 'soft' front and 'medium' rear at good money

:bouncy:

Nigel C 13-May-2004 21:33

Rennsports great unless the road is wet :o

psychlist 13-May-2004 21:40

You'll find a LOT of people who rave a LOT about ultra sticky, ultra expensive semi slick imitation "race" tyres that cost a bomb and dont last long.
You'll also find them tucked up in their garage when the roads get wet'n slimy! :frog:
Fit the BT010's and you wont have too many worries in the wet or the cold and they're "good enough" for occasional track days too.

Guy C 13-May-2004 21:46

Just human and no race God....010's it is, thanks for the help

Later!:eureka:

chris.p 13-May-2004 21:47

You can not beat a pair of standard Pirelli Diablo`s.

I'll second that vote! !

010s tend to handle very strangely after they're about 60-70% worn, 012s tend to go off a bit later, despite not strictly being dual-compound :puzzled:

I always stuck with bt010s on 996s and various R1s Blades etc. Before them it was the bt56ss and before that standard bt56. Never had any problem with them. I don't think they are really any poor tyres nowadays. Fortunatley I have only ever come off a bike twice once on Dunlops and once on Michelins. Even though neither time was really the tyres fault I seem to have avoided them ever since.

Will probably end up fitting 010s to my Multistrada when I come to need a pair. I do agree that when 70% worn or so the handling does seem to go off but has it happens gradually you do not notice it so much until you then fit a new pair of 010s and suddenly your bike is transformed and you end up singing the praises of the 010 again.

Diablos.......:bouncy:

Good on wet roads, snowy alpine roads, muddy roads, dry roads and Cadwell Park...

Also get good mileage out of them too. 4.5K on the rear on an ST2, 4K on an ST4S.

Mr_S 13-May-2004 23:41

Diablo's for me too,

010's suited my R1, but the Diablo's are stunning on the 748. Fitted a new rear recently after a puncture and 10 miles of scrubbing on the tyre the knees were sliding, on a damp road too!!!

I'll fall off tomorrow now :o

after reading this topic i have to say ive used 010s and said i would never use anything else, (that was on a honda) then i bought a 748s brand new with dragon evos on it they were brilliant, now can only get diablos and must say they are as good as the evos and will now stick with diablos(for what its worth)

BDG 14-May-2004 00:27

I've been very happy with 010's, good all round tyre both grip and wear wise, but plan on trying Diablo's next just to see what they're like.

MARTIN H 14-May-2004 00:31

Well it sounds like I must try some Diablos myself!

I forgot bout the dragons I used to run 7 or 8 years ago on a blade They were dragon corsas MTR01/02 or something I can't remember.

I do remember they were as grippy as a grippy thing though but terrible mileage.

What the Diablos like wear wise compared to 010s?

Guy C 14-May-2004 00:32

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

Diablo

010

Best get down to the tyre shop and see what they boy has in!

Thanks for the help. Leaning now toeards the Diablos

Yours undecided....I think:bouncy:

And after some Guinness the spelling's gone.

good night Vienna:frog:

psychlist 14-May-2004 09:00

If they\'re equally good........

then which is cheapest? :biaggi:

Lee1980 14-May-2004 10:01

I got a puncture last week that couldn't be repaired, so had a standard diablo on the back as this is supposed to be less sticky than the standard tyres dragon evos the bike came with new.

Seems like the rear diablo is more sticky though:o:o

Get a front as soon as funds allow:D:D

Totto 14-May-2004 10:44

Diablos or Diablo Corsa !
Prefer them to Bridgestones BT12 range ,although i lliked them as well ,just i like the Diablos better !

Guy C 14-May-2004 20:06

All done.

Diablos fitted at MTS in Nottingham (dead handy place - ride in ride out) and its like a new bike.
Good good good.

Thanks for all your help, no doubt I'll be back again for more!

Just changing my 010's to a pair of 012's with a SS on the front.
Always gone back to bridgestone after other brands, they just suit me i suspect. But still to find better than the 090's for the little 250's and 400's

bostrom998 15-May-2004 19:55

Easy isn't it......!!!
Whatever you do make sure it's a 180/55 on the rear though.......none of this 190/50 bo**ocks

I wouldn't fit an SS front and a std rear, after speaking to a bloke at Bridgestone (who also happens to ride a duke ;) )
he said it was much more than just a compound change between the two, noticeably different tread pattern etc.
Their construction with regards to belts etc is also different.
