Brembo caliper bolts Where can i purchase some replacment bolts that hold the two halves of the caliper together? I fancy Stainless steel as the existing ones have gone rusty & look unsightly. However, I dont want to buy a bucket full of assorted bolts & nuts just to get 8 !! What is the thread size & length of these bolts? |
M8 x 40mm ;) |
Are you seriously planning to replace the bolts holding the caliper halves together or are you talking about the bolts that hold the calipers to the forks? |
caliper pinch bolts, i think they`re called.... |
I've done the actual caliper bolts on my last two bikes...no problemo! ;) |
I've done the bolts that hold the calipers to the forks as well but i wouldnt touch the bolts that hold the caliper halves together. Way too much risk of the caliper flexing when you hit the brakes if you havent got it exactly right when you tighten them up in my opinion. |
I did it alsoon my old 748. I could not get the correct bolt anywher and ended up buying a set of Ti bolts for front and rear caliper. £60.00 if I remember right If you do it Andy, only change one bolt at a time. [Edited on 26-5-2004 by Jon] |
Youve got me rattled now !!! I was going to change the bolts that hold the caliper halves together on those brembo billets ive just bought (there a bit tatty as you can see)..so general rule is just change one at a time and you should be fine then?? Assume no torque settings available ?? Cheers Nat |
nat i`ve changed these b4 for s/s and had no problems at all, just do one at a time. bob |
The only issue with changing to stainless bolts is that stainless does not have the tensile strength of the original bolts. Best option is to change to titanium. For advice on torque settings etc give James Walters at Brembo UK a call: 01908 220777. |
Thanks Neil..really helpful Nat |
I'd be interested to hear what he says. I'm going back some years to when i used to help spanner a rally car. We had dire warnings about touching the caliper bolts because they were done up in the factory to very specific torque values etc. |
just pulled on the spanner until my eyes went:o;) |
Lane748 You will have no problems relating to the tensile streanth of A4 S/S screws for your calipers, I have done this change to all my bikes with no problems. |
