Specialist insurance

I'm close to doing a deal on a 1098R Bayliss, so i've spoken to my present insurer (Carole Nash) about taking off my 998S Bayliss rep & 1098S Tricolore & adding the 1098R to my 916 Foggy rep, as i was swapping two bikes with the combined value close to the 1098R i thought it would be an easy task, how wrong i was!!!!

When i renewed the policy in July last year i was informed by CN that the company i was with no longer did agreed value policies so they would have to swap over to Norwich union, who wanted £200 more than the £1,200 i had paid the previous year.

Now, they want another £500 to put the 1098R on in place of the 998 & 1098 Tricolore, for the 6 months upto renewal in July!!!

I've rung a couple of companies (Bennetts & Ducati insurance) & was told they couldn't cover bikes of that value!!

I've spoken to MCE, they're working on a quote for me, they seemed switched on & interested in helping me. Has anybody had any dealings with them?

I'm not too stressed at having agreed value on the bikes now, so can anybody suggest a company that will cover both bikes at a reasonable cost?

I'm with MCE. Never had to try them for a claim but they seem ok. Found them a bit persistant at renewal time, calling me several times.

Insurance

I have had my policy with Carole Nash for a couple of years. I insured a 749 and MV Agusta F4. This year they said my present insurer would not cover me. Wanted an extra £400 to cover me with another company. Tried MCE and they came up trumps straight away. Now they also insure my new 1098s. Very good guys and very helpful. Worth a try with them, in my mind.

Been to the show at Excel today, gave both CN & Ducati insurance reps a hard time, they both said they would re-view my details & give me their best quotes, won't hold my breath though!!

Got a reasonable quote from MCE though, so they're looking like favourites to get my business!!

??

Ducati Insurance cover the Desmo and I have a joint policy with them.

Do you have a dodgy postcode or something?

baylissboy 02-Feb-2009 22:20

Don't really know what the problem is!!

Talking to the Ducati insurance rep, he told me that they had covered a load of D16RR'S with NU being the under-writer on all of them & he thinks that NU are worried about that fact, so basically, it's Jon's fault they won't insure me!!!

It can't be the post code because CN are happy to cover the Foggy, Bayliss & Tricolore, they're saying that it's the 1098R that's the problem because it crosses their £25k threshold!!

I can't get my head around it really!!

Insurance strikes me as modern day thievery, with call centres.

I Insured 3 bikes with Ducati insurance 3 weeks ago ... 1098R, 996SPS & GSXR1000 (multibike policy).
They didn't even ask me to put an alarm on the 1098R either .. must be getting old !

baylissboy 05-Feb-2009 23:05

I'm getting old myself, but they won't insure my bikes!!

Still waiting for them to get back to me.

baylissboy 10-Feb-2009 23:09

Ducati insurance just got back to me, they've come good!!

They'll cover both bikes & even agreed to put an "agreed" value on the Foggy!! The only thing they want is a tracker on the 1098R. The price is very good too!!

All i need now is to get a buyer for the 1098 Tricolore & i'm all systems go!!

Any takers??

iang 11-Feb-2009 08:50

Are JHP not offering a 'great' p/ex price for the Tricolore when you are buying a bike that expensive ??

baylissboy 11-Feb-2009 18:01

No, they're trying to sell the Tricolore for me, but there's no deals on the 1098R Bayliss!!
