Monday Brain Teaser

Hope this works.???

This is a 5th grade math problem. If you can open the spreadsheet, you'll see it's (still) a very small list of people who have gotten the correct number.

This is not a trick question; this is a real math problem and everything you need to solve it is in the following:

There are 7 girls in a bus.
Each girl has 7 backpacks.
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.
For every big cat there are 7 little cats.

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

(The number of legs is the password to unlock the Excel sheet. If you open it, add your name and send it on to see who else can unlock it.) Good luck!!!

The xl file is to large to upload so post your answers below and I will reveal the correct answer later in the week.

You need to include the legs of all of the cats, not just the little ones.

KeefyB 10-Feb-2009 09:28

None!
The bus has a wheel in each corner, not legs!

SlowLearner 10-Feb-2009 10:10

Blimey thats tricky before coffee !

I got it wrong with 1582, then realised i had not multiplied by 7 enough !

Now i too make it 10990 !

MARTIN H 10-Feb-2009 10:13

10990 unless Heather McCartney was one of the girls? But even she wouldnt be so cruel to place so many cats in so few bags?
