help! Akropovic or Leo Vinci??1

Sorry i know its been discussed but further advise would be helpfull, from all parties.

iam torn between the Akropovic cans (slip ons as cant afford the full system and the setting up involved..thanks "iang") at £900 and the look i want, with the bonus of more noise (over standard) and with no setting up as the bike is quick enough.

or Leo Vinci full system (£1400) as its a good deal really?

for me the Akros are better looking cans but what i just cant understand is why a distributer says that there is no CAT convertor option for the model i like (full carbon set not road legal with removal bafffle) ? thought the cat wouldnt be involved at all with end cans as there is no apparent pickups for it?

for example

but wait for it

akropovic web seem to say that your ok on page 2

feeling dizzy now .....any ideas??

Zard, Termi's and the like are all excellent. IMHO Akra's rock. I have used both Akra and Termi products, however I have found Akra's to be lighter and slightly better build quality.

Regards.

Having had both and seen all the others I would rate the Akras way above any other brand. The fit and finish is second to none but the price is way more than any others.

The Termis do 'suit' the 1098 well and they have a raw bark to them. Ducati and Termi go together naturally but if the cost is not considered then go for Akra but buy the full system.

There are no cats in the pipework and they are only present in the original silencers. NO aftermarket exhaust have cats fitted to them apart from maybe the titanium version of the Termis.

Leo Vinci are good quality but to me the pipework looked very thin and I personally was not keen on the shape of the carbon heatshield. Zards are quite unusual and they also appear to be decent quality.

it would be Akros for me, had full systems on several of my race bikes, currentlt have a couple of cans for the R6 one with and one without dB killer, and the ones on Dallas's 1098 look awesome, then again it is the full system

bugger forgot about the zards and they also look fantastic. Oh well too late made the commitment..'ish on the Akro's now. 10 days to go before pickup of the bike with the cans fitted. looking forward to it. then home to fit everything else. :-)

Thanks for all your help. Shame i just cant afford the £2500 plus pc V in the same hit with the 15k bike.. trying to get everything before the euro/ pound price hike.

further update..... akropovic dont list 1198 so going to have to wait :-(

The 1198 uses the same exhaust sytem as the 1098R, the exhaust gaskets are the same part number so if you bought a 1098R specific exhaust it will fit.

The new Arata apparently gives out the best HP figures of any other exhaust. It has a weird 'balance' pipe that increases response and power, quality is fantastic but wether it looks as good as some of the others is debateable.

ooh, thanks ian
got an e-mail back from Akropovic. they wont be releasing anything till April for 1198 :-( guess going to have to wait or try my luck

You not been on the 1098 forum ?

There are some good vendors on there and usually some Akra systems etc.

Remember that you will need a DP race ecu or a Nemesis or you will get error codes if you fit a full system.

Value for money wise you cannot go past the Termi. If you bought the full system you would get a replacement ecu that is set up correctly for the system AND will still allow the traction control to work.

Yep.. had a butchers in several places (think your there as well..different avatar though?) adminitedly all the threads ive read, they always end with "so ill buy the entire system" after they start the chat about just buying the end cans.. doh!

Weird one was how one guy was chatting about Arrow Slip on cans being dropped from the range due to heat issues unless its the full system?

Cant pick the bike up until at least the 2nd March as not permitted on the road with a 09 plate until then? (their words not mine) See what time does to my thoughts, normally its expensive in the end ;-)

iang 24-Feb-2009 09:06

Get the dealer to deliver the bike to you now, you can then use it on Sunday 1st March if it is sunny. I have got my new bike ready and waiting.

james81273 24-Feb-2009 12:00

wife agrees too, that they should do a delivery or open up for sunday. Once ive sent them all my details such as insurance certificate money transferred etc ill push them further on it.
