Frame Painting under warranty? The more I strip the bike the more I notice the appalling finish on the frame of a supposed 10K bike :mad: Around where the airtubes go (amongst other areas) there seems to be a fair bit of rust where bits and bobs have rubbed against the the thin paint - can I claim this under warranty? Need to be quick as I only have a few months left! :( |
Maybe if you had cleaned it now and again it wouldn't be so bad :lol::lol::lol::P seriously though that could be classed as fair wear and tear:puzzled: [Edited on 30-5-2004 by Nigel C] |
You'd have to check the small print in the warranty but I would have thought you'd be in with a chance. If the paint wears through due to normal use of the vehicle/bike then I would assume you would be covered. It's ridiculous that any new vehicle should rust due to normal use within it's first 2 years! For example, if it was a new car you'd bought and the repeated opening and closing of the doors wore through the paint resulting in rust then you'd definitely be covered under warranty. Slightly simplified analagy but surely the principal is the same? Just my 2p worth, shoot me down at will! |
Cleaning it wouldnt have made a difference - its where the tubes have been rubbing on the frame!! I don't think wear and tear applies to something as major as the cycle frame? :puzzled: |
The mistake you made WAS cleaning it!!! ;););););):lol::lol::lol::lol: [Edited on 30-5-2004 by Rattler] |
:lol::lol::lol: you bitch! :D :frog: |
I'm just a bit tetchy until I get the wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:devil::devil::devil: |
You should see my 18 month old 749 looks like it's lived it whole life parked up next to the sea. I'm awaiting a call from Ducati UK so we can talk about it. I'm not a happy bunny that's for sure.:mad::mad: |
Having spoken with the shop and DUK, I have been told to bring the bike for inspection - great, bike is in bits at the mo :rolleye: Now my questions are - 1. Would I be entitled to request a loan bike while they are sorting the frame (if the claim is approved) since it would take 1/2 weeks to strip, paint and totally rebuild the bike? 2. Would they be prepared to finish it in a different colour (if I paid for the paint - which would also provide a stronger finish) |
Sounds like you've made some sort of progress, just keep your fingers crossed! Loan bike, not going to hurt to ask. Different colour, I would assume that the respray will be organised by your local dealer so if your on good terms with them then I don't see any reason why not. There probably won't be any difference in cost between painting in Duc frame colour and black for example, so I don't see why it should cost you any more. Best of luck mate, Neil |
Having seen the frame on my 4 year old, i can believe the state it is in Dave W has commented on his 53 999S paint finish, no cance of rust on that baby, it's in the house most of the time! :frog: |
