That sucks a bit!

You have to turn up on Saturday to run for 20 mins in the morning, then not race until the next day.

Hmmm really cost effective that one! Glad I'm almost out of DD, TBH !

Tonio600 05-Mar-2009 08:40

I like it. Plenty of time to fix the bike

Lily 05-Mar-2009 09:03

Let's remember it is provisional folks and it could be changed to split grids if the numbers are there :)

Mind you, if they do, hope it's not last race... it's gonna be pretty dark at 7pm at night :o

bradders 05-Mar-2009 09:06

timings do seem a bit pants on the Sat...if you're not entering another class just not worth it!! and what class can you enter - doesnt look a suitable one there

WeeJohnyB 05-Mar-2009 09:56

yuk, glad I'm not at that meeting. If you are far from Donny, it means turning up Friday night, scrut in the morning, 20 mins session then nothing for 24 hours! Then they make you stay until 5.15 + packing up and it will be a late drive home for some on Sunday night, all for two races. Some of the other decisions also seem weird, 125's are only Saturday 10 min practice and one race 6 laps only, who would make the trip for that? What a waste of money. I may be out of touch, but with NE we used to get a practice and two races on both days, ie 6 sessions on track in the weekend and you could sometimes blag a second practice pass.

Not what I would call value for money.

WeeJohnyB

Lily 05-Mar-2009 10:08

John

if you look at it it is because it is the Moto six and effectively we are guests.

There are only a few classes (us/125 and lansdowne) that only get one practice and then 2 races. If we don't get split grids as well then it is going to be pretty dull for DD :(

I think we need to wait and see how the discussions go with RC and New Era tomorrow and take it from there.

Scooter916 05-Mar-2009 10:25

Yea the saturday thing is what put a bee in my Bonnet, As it stands I will have to close the shop on my busiest day of the week to pick my nose in the paddock, Still havent had a good clearout for a while.
Lets just hope that everyone gets their entries in by tomoz and we can have a better weekend than is currently on the schedule.

Guests!!!??

Lepers more like.

I just thank christ I only live 50 miles from the circuit, if I lived any kind of distance I'd tell them to get bent on general principle.

I've always been pretty "whatever" when it's come to controversial decisions from NE, but this just takes the gigantic biscuit.

Whatever next?

Imola Duke 05-Mar-2009 19:27

If we only get 40 to 48 entrys in by Friday and if there is no seperate grids
will the 8 reserves or less get a credit note ?
If i do end up on the reserve list i will give the meeting a miss and i would like
a credit note for £150 ??
Or are payments taken from cards at the official closing date ?

steve41 05-Mar-2009 20:51

First time out with DD, will have a 540 mile round trip, hope not to fall off as that would be a real bummer!!!!

I am used to the classics where they have pretty much binned qualifying, you get a practise, then grid position for the first race on championship points, there after your race finish is your grid position.

I am never able to do all rounds, thus tend to get mid field grid position for first race and work my way up. Good racing, a lot of fun, which is what it is all about.

Seems a lot of practise and not so much on the racing, but hope to get as much track time, and I am sure it wil all work itself out, and when the racing starts it will be all nice and friendly, well maybe not on the first corner of the first lap!!!!

NBs996 05-Mar-2009 21:16

Spot on Steve.
Some others need a good dose of Chopper Read!

I take my hat off to you Steve for showing such commitment. The first corner is the best, just get stuck in there and don't give a quarter or a third or anything. Your all lucky bastids I just wish I could be with you all again, Oh how I've missed the paddock.:(

Other race series ARE available.....let us know how you get on....

Ray 05-Mar-2009 22:17

Most of Saturday to wander round the paddock, spot the latest must have bling, gossip about who's done what over the winter, psyche out the opposition, wind each other up, etc, etc...........oh and maybe few laps round the circuit

What better way to spend a Saturday??

or

Why not take some binoculars a pen and a notebook, its the ideal opportunity to see if plane spotting if for you:lol:

Ray.

Rattler 05-Mar-2009 23:19

The Dutch Ducati club will be racing there too, with their Ducati exotica, including I'm sure some very trick production bikes and a few Pierebons and NCRs thrown in for good measure.

Nice.

Some of these may be there, the Red/white Pierobon was at Brands last year, I went and had a couple of chats with the rider

Quite right Nick,

If I just go out and torture some drug dealers for their cash, get King Kong tattooed on my belly and lop off an ear, the gigantic p155 take that NE are offering up won't seem half so bad.

and Mr Payne, you won't get a place up the finishing order that easily mate! ;)

Doesn't bother me too much, but if people in the real world wanted to do the trackday on the Thursday as well, that would most likely mean 4 days off work for some.....but at least there'll be some Dutch Ducati's to make up for the loss in wages.

La, lalalalalaaaaaaa!

Some of you guys are just making statements to appear cool and unaffected by it all.

Rattler always stated he hates whingers, and I agree. I hate pirates more though!

thats pretty cack, having qual on one day and races the next... is it even ACU legal? thought you HAD to have a 3 lap minimum practice on the day of racing?

Not as far as I can see (sadly). This is from the Sporting code:

3.24 MINIMUM PRACTICE PERIOD
1. For any race there must be a minimum period for practice on the actual course, the details of which must be stated in the Supplementary Regulations.

And from the Road Race section of the ACU handbook:

CHAPTER 4
PRACTICE
4.1 Time must be put aside for the practice sessions and these must be defined in the Supplementary Regulations for the meeting.
1. Riders will commence practice under the instructions of the Start Officials.
2. The duration of each practice session will commence from the time the pit lane opens and will finish (chequered flag) not less than 10 minutes later.
3. The end of practice will be indicated by the waving of a chequered flag at which time the pit exit will be closed. A rider's time will continue to be recorded until he passes the finish line after the allotted time has lapsed.
4. If practice is interrupted due to an incident or any other reason then a red flag will be displayed at the start line and at marshals posts. All riders must return slowly to the pit lane or as otherwise instructed by the Marshals under the direction of the Clerk of the Course.
5. When the practice is restarted the time remaining will be decided by the Clerk of the Course.

Miss Riot 06-Mar-2009 12:44

So how come the Dutch Ducatis get 20 mins practice and 20 mins qualifying on Saturday, and we just get 20 mins qualifying?

Is it because we're expected to pay £140 for the Thursday practice?

skidlids 06-Mar-2009 13:21

probably because they paid a block booking in advance of £6000 or more to secure they get a grid.
If we paid £12k well in advance we would also probably have two grids (4 races) and timed and untimed practice.
Trouble with that is if only 10 riders enter it costs them £1200 each, with the old system the £200 deposits could have went to paying for the grid, so if 60 were enterd in DD and 40 didn't turn up then there would be £8k of the cost with the other 20 riders paying £200 for their entry and they could each do 4 races

mjbayley 06-Mar-2009 14:03

Too good to be true!!

So this posted a couple of weeks ago, .....

"Here is New Era's race format for 2009

RACE DAY FORMAT
There will be significant changes to the race day format in that Timed Practice will be discontinued in favour of Qualifying Races.
This means that the first races during the day will act as qualifiers for the main Championship Races in the afternoon. Grid Stickers will be issued at Signing-On. Grid positions for these races will be allocated at Signing On. All of this will save time messing about in the Assembly Area. The fastest laps in each Class will count for Grid Positions in the Championship Races - the fastest in each Class being allocated Pole Position etc etc. The remainder of the grid will be established according to the remaining fastest lap times in order.
This means that, effectively, the meetings will be run to a "three race" format this year - and the accent will be on reducing the delays between races and, consequently, the time riders may have to spend in the Assembly Area with tyres going cold. At the same time a high degree of co-operation will be expected of our riders in order to achieve these objectives as obviously riders falling of towards the end of races will almost inevitably introduce some delays".

Was just flim flam and BULL SHIRT !!!!!!!

ChrisBushell 06-Mar-2009 14:10

Guys

A briefing note has just gone out to all riders regarding the Donnington round.

If you get bored I'm racing at Mallory that same weekend. It's only 30 minutes away. Come down and watch 6 hours of non-stop racing on Sunday afternoon ;)

Here's the schedule:

http://www.hottrax-motorsport.co.uk/...CHEDULE-V3.pdf

Basically...

9.30-10.25am - Qualifying and Practice All Classes

11am-2pm - Racing

2pm -2.45pm Lunch

2.45pm-5.45pm - Racing

Entries don't close until March 10th, and after that tickets etc will be posted. If you're a certain arrival, I might be able to put one away for you!

Anyway, won't hijack this DD thread anymore. Will post some new specific threads next week.

WeeJohnyB 07-Mar-2009 17:39

Thundersport are at Mallory soon for first CB500 race. They have an amazing 40 bikes on the grid and not all are registered yet (inc me), they may make 48 and have 2 grids. WTF? Gobsmacked from where it was with New Era where it was a handful and mixed grids it's astonishing.

Friday: 1 x 20min Qualify
Friday: 1 x 25min Qualify

Saturday: 1 x 10min warm up
Saturday: 1 x 10lap race (each)
Saturday: 1 x 10lap race (each)

Sunday: 1 x 10min warm up
Sunday: 1 x 10lap race (each)
Sunday: 1 x 10lap race (each)

Now that's proper value for money

WeeJohnyB

skidlids 07-Mar-2009 18:17

Friday Qualify, not ideal for many and certainly goes against the initial thinking behind DD,
But has been said before there are many forms of racing out there, many with different formats and costs, nobody is forced to go racing so when you do decide to go racing choose the form that suits you and get on and do it.
But try not letit get you into serious debt which ever you choose
