998S Stutter between 2.5K & 5K rpm

My 998S has developed a stutter between 2.5k & 5K rpm

Happens on open & constant throttle - okay before & after....

All electrical system short of replacing the loom has been checked - all fine

Just had a 12k service etc

Bit gutted as can't take to Park Algar now as needs to be dropped off on Sunday

Any ideas.......

Thx in advance

Rattler 02-Apr-2009 09:29

I'm really leaning that way now and getting a lot closer to being in a position to getting one hopefully. Watch this space over the next few months!

Chef 02-Apr-2009 13:57

No - rented one for Portimao from FE....

Try before you buy...........:-)

Ahh ok, well that's a good idea I suppose. I'd just buy one but then I've ridden one before so I know what I want. You'll probably just want one.

And hopefully I'll have mine by the end of August! And race it next year, fingers crossed.

Oh, if I do get it before the next No Limits trip to Portimao I'll be well up for that!

andyb 02-Apr-2009 14:57

ill give you 3000 fior the old 998...............:)

Chef 02-Apr-2009 18:09

TP - Cash allowing & assuming I like it - I'll be doing Nov too......maybe with an R6 but more likely my 998 - but you never know!!

Andyb - in your dreams - that is one sweet bike (okay without the stutter....) - I'll let you have the STM evo 48t slipper & 54m ti system for 3k.....& only if you're nice......

Chef 02-Apr-2009 18:40

It's not broke.....just an annoying electical problem....

How can you say that after all the time we've spent on track together :-P

Chef 03-Apr-2009 17:30

TP - one each:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-Yamaha-R6-...7C240%3A131 8

They look good to me.............a bit white for me...but then I hear that' white is the new black (ie see Rattlers bike!!)

I better start saving

andyb 03-Apr-2009 18:25

i noticed a road going 06 plate in blue at my local honda dealer, remus exhaust etc...........£4700........??

Mojo 03-Apr-2009 19:16

Stutter

Had a similar problem on 996 last year and finally tracked it down to a split in the rubber fuel line directly after the pump. This means going into the tank but you can combine it with a fuel filter change which is how I found the problem.

Hope this helps.

bradders 03-Apr-2009 20:43

wouldnt fuel filter chnage be part of a 12k service? in which case maybe moving things made it worse

Good suggestion! This reminds me of a chat I had with Ducati John the other week as he was sorting a 996 or similar with just that problem at the time. Apparently it is quite common and is only a 20 minute job to fix.

Chef 08-Apr-2009 21:51

Just seen this.........

Thanks for the suggestion
