749s v 749r As I have finally decided to go for it and get a 749 I need to decide if I should mortgage the family and get the 749r, or if I should stick to the 749s I am interested in how different the bikes feel to ride. Anyone had both care to comment. Rob |
I've not ridden either, but if you go for the S (assuming you can afford the R), you'll regret no getting the R. You'll only end up selling the S I reckon!! I went through a BIP and a SPS before I got to the 996R and wouldn't g back now. Tim:frog: |

has anybody seen or heard of what comes in the racing kits for the 749r i heard that the new Dp cat is due out again soon with extra kit for the 749r in it?? |
I thought one of the mags covered this? I'll check them out. All the mags seemed to so the 749R testing at the same time and place in the rain in Spain I think? Tim |
i had a chat with the tech chief for duc germany and he was quite excited about all the bit comming out for the "big" tuning kit - new cylinder heads with bigger valves , new carbon airbox big exhaust system and a few other trick bits if i remember rightly all for about €6000 so he said but since then ive heard or seen nothing but kicking out 140ps... Nothing wrong with the 749S - got mine and I'm well happy with it. 'R' models should be used on a track where they're designed to work best. I only ride on the road, and the S is perfect. If you want the extra power, buy a 999 or an Aprilia RSV-R Factory... |
It's not the power i am after, i will be trading in my R1, it is the suspension, wheels and other bits |
Of course there's nothing wrong with the 749S and if you only use it on the road that's fine, but the 749R is a better bike all round, road or track. If you can afford an R - you should get one. The good thing about opinions is that everyone's entitled to one!!!:lol::lol::lol: |
You are all forgetting one very important thing here , only 140 749R's came to the UK , I'm Pretty sure they are all sold and there will be no more 'till next year , as for finding a demonstrator :o , I wouldn't hold your breath... ...and no , you are not getting a shottie of mine :sing: The 749R gets a very good write up in todays MCN by the way , they ask is it really worth £6k more than a CBR 600 RR , they decide it is :D |
Your right I don't think I will find a demonstrator I know of at least one dealer that has one left for sale that I will be looking at on saturday. So I just have to decide if it's worth it to me.. Rob |
JHP in Coventry had (it may be sold) a press bike , if you can catch that between magazine test rides you may be able to get a go on that. If you can afford one , just buy one , it may seem like a lot of money but they are a giveaway compared to a 999R , and lets just compare them Special size bore / stroke engine : both Special frame :both Special forks / brakes : both Special swing arm , rear suspesion : both Race exhaust inc. in price : 999R only Carbon bodywork : both Carbon seat unit : 999R only Magnesium rocker covers : both Special wheels :both Larger petrol tank :749R only Titanium valves :749R only Magnesium headlight housing :999R only Vented carbon belt covers : both Exclusivity :both :bouncy: At £6k less the 749R is an absolute bargain :sing: |
Pegasus in reading have R's in the showroom up for sale. I know someone whos just ordered the race kit for the R so could put you in touch if need be.. I wouldnt hesitate in going for the R...as the other lads say here, its excellent value for money, and really has that extra wow factor.. Its probably the only bike I would trade the 888 in for (what am I saying..? im NEVER selling the 888!!!!!) Cheers Nat |
Well I have gone and done it now. Signed on the dotted line and I pickup the new bike on Saturday. Got a fabulous quote from Ducati Insurance - fully comp is half what I way paying on my R1 (TPFT), which is amazing considering that the new bike is twice the price.. Rob :roll: |

You made the right choice mate,love mine to bits,at the first chance you get change the front sprocket to a 14 tooth,its great. There are 2 kits,1 is 57mm termi full system ecu,air filters £2300 +vat and 2 all of that plus heads and cams £4800 +vat I have the lesser kit on order (july ) and that will do untill John takes it out to 926cc next winter. Read the MCM report its spot on ,you really do do 120 mph every time you look at the speedo!! ITS really that GOOD BUTCH: |

Great choice, iv'e had mine for a couple of months and absolutely love it. Went to Jerez first week in May for 3 days and the bike was awesome on the track with 3 teeth up on the back sprocket. Hope you enjoy your baby R, have fun :lol::lol::lol: |
