Leather repairs

Just been looking into places to get my leathers repaired

The usual place to go is Cathy in Woodcote but I hear things can take a while
so I have come up with the following list

anybody got any experience of dealing with them, turn around times etc, especially the Swindon ones as I can possibly fit them in while visiting a mate

Cobra Leathers
1-3 Whitehouse Road,
Swindon,
SN2 1BZ
01793490119

Zak Leathers - Northampton

Nine Lives in Farnborough
13 Morris Rd
Farnborough, GU14 6HJ
01252 523232‎

Stallion Leathers - Swindon

Cobra Leathers are good, and Sally's not expensive either. She's done stuff for me, Zimbo, and Steve Klee, and I think we were all happy with her work.

harriebird 23-Jun-2009 16:47

Karen at Zak did a great job with a great turnaround after my scissor-assisted exit from my leathers at Cadwell.

(although thanks to Lily it was a much easier repair than it could have been as she told the medics where to cut, cheers m'dears! :) )

nine lives recoemnded here Kev, and if you're nice to me I may be able to drop them off if its just a simple repair ;)

took a week to do mine, and 2 weeks to competely change a 2 peice to 1 piece, although that wasnt in race season

clint 23-Jun-2009 17:33

Kev
I can vouch for Nine Lives in Farnborough.
I have used the for repairs...etc.

Clint.

Tonio600 23-Jun-2009 17:33

9 lives here too.
Used them twice and will use them again.

Fastfasulli 23-Jun-2009 17:48

9 lives here too except I don't know how they compare for price with others. Nice chap too

Anybody know a ball park figure to replace a zip in a leather jacket?

Thanks.

cobra leathers

hi all
Sad news about cobra leathers, Sally retired at the end of April after a long an successful career as a leather seamstress and electronics engineer. i,ve had both my jeans and my race suit altered so that i could wear my boots under them ala Rossi, and she done an excellent job. she told me that she has sold the business as a going concern but don,t know nything about the new owner or the quality of their work???:(

phil_h 23-Jun-2009 19:36

Nine Lives have lost some custom cos they've lost some staff ...
I've had some excellent work done on my Race leathers and Sue's 2-piece leathers by 'Hill 4 Leather' who are much easier to get to than Nine Lives :

Hill 4 Leather
86 South Lane, ALDERSHOT, Hampshire GU12 6NJ
01252 312886

I used hideout, They took 4 weeks, and then I had to go and collect them the day before the race at mallory because they hadn't done them in time to post them, then they charged me £100. Not recomended,

the work is very good, can't knock them there, Not sure about price or service.

Maybe worth contacting one of the companies that Skidlids has listed ;-)

PBPB 23-Jun-2009 23:30

Another +1 for nine lives.
They replaced a panel in a sleeve of a Dainese jacket after I had an off a few years back.
Excellent work, price wasn't too bad.
Bit of a pain to get to but worth it

skidlids 24-Jun-2009 00:15

Thanks for the input everyone.
It doesn't look as if I will be able to get to any until next week as onlygot tomorrow before i'm off to Donny to help Monty and Gordon with the DSC stand at the WSBk.
Which means I will only have 3 weeks to Oulton as such my mate Adrian has recommended a saddlers shop in Lambourn that have repaired his before so I'm going to take both suits in to see them and see what they say timescale wise. If they can't do it then I'll be popping in to Swindon

A couple of the links go direct to a pricing page so you should find the info there, one stated £45 for the zip in a one piece suit

RickyX 24-Jun-2009 13:39

Hideout do not seem (seam?) to be geared up for rapid turnarounds.
I have had alterations done and now have a spanking (oooer) new suit from them - superb quality but it wasn't quick (or cheap).

I use Cobra leathers all the time, noticed that the company had changed hands, as yet not used the new owner so can't comment on her work?

I had a zip put in for £30 which i reckon is a good price.
If you state you need it for a certain time/date they usually do yours as a priority but obviously will cost abit more.
I'm gonna take leather in soon to get a repair on the sleeve, so will know abit more soon about quality/time scales.

Hill4leather seconded by me.. we've had a few jobs done by them for the race team and top quality and turn-around time is excellent. Really nice chaps who run the company.

Cheers Steve
If the shop in Lambourn can't do the work I think i'll give Cobra a try

Red-Duc 25-Jun-2009 00:48

Kev
Depends on what you need doing, my brother in law may be able to do it, hes altered mine and did a good job

Chris Wood 25-Jun-2009 02:11

Dobbs in Northampton is good, repaired my ANESS a few times, quickly and at a good price.

Easy to find just nr the Carlsberg depot in Northampton.

He likes bike racers too, good for business!!

Just let him know your timescales.

nogaromill998 26-Jun-2009 01:21

Cougar Leathers is a new company just set up by the head seamstress of Carrera Leathers, Christine, as Martin has closed Carrera down, she is in Shepreth, Herts.......and I can vouch for the quality of her work, she was at Hideout before Carrera.....

skidlids 07-Jul-2009 14:09

After work today I'm off to pick my leathers up from repair.
I got a call Yesterday (Monday) Morning at 9:30 saying they were ready, that's what I call a quick service as I only dropped them in Friday afternoon after work. They asked when I needed them for and I just said ASAP.
I'll find out the cost and quallity of the work when I pick them up.

skidlids 08-Jul-2009 08:50

Picked up the leathers and both sets are now useable or racing again, small patch on the knee of one set and the Zip repaired on the other at a total cost of £30

gordonparker 19-Jul-2009 11:56

Gordon needs leather repairs!

Gordon is also looking for some leather repairs following an exit stage left ar Jack's Hill Cafe!! He is hoping to be discharged from Northampton General on Monday!! After he gets his crutch pilots licence!!
