Best Road Tyres....... Got diablo's at the mo Probably replace with the new rosso's Anyone tried them....or suggest something better....:-) Road only all year round & no trackdays Thanks |
The best road tyres IMO are Michelin Pilot Road 2CT. Grippy enough in the dry to allow full lean, excellent in the rain and good life too - currently up to 6000 miles on the ER6 with another 3-4k left in them. Not quite as sticky as Pilot Power 2CT, but not so that you'd notice. The latter are great too - took me to a 4th place in the rain when my wets failed to turn up :) I rate both tyres leagues ahead of Diablos. |
I stuck Diablo Corsa's on my 900ss I got at a discount price. They're a good step up froam the standard Diablo's with more than enough grip on the roads & trackdays for me. Andy |
Thanks Maybe try 2ct's... Still scarred by Mich Pilot Sport tyres I tried a few years ago - terrible tyres - swore I'd never buy Mich again!! |

Pilot Sports don't compare. Power 2CTs are superb, but on the balance of things I prefer the Road 2's for the extra mileage and better wet weather grip. They are all you need for a road tyre and nothing leaves my Triumph on the road which, runs Pilot Road 2's. |
anyone got opinions on Avon Viper sports/supersports? |

Don't really know these so well, 2CT's and Diablo Corsa 3's get my vote! |
Looks like 2CT's or the Road 2's to me....... Can't believe I'm not buying Pirelli!! |
Couldn't get my hands on 2CT's a few months ago in time. went for BT016's and WOW!! The Diablo III's never inspired me. The 016's have given me a new lease with the bike. |
2CTs get my vote. No matter what the conditions they allways look after you. Cahanged from SuperCorsa Pros which were great in the dry :D but downright dangerous in the cold and wet. Suspect Road 2s are plenty good enough for the road, but havnt tried them. |
Nelly - stange that - I never liked the diablo 111's as well - sold them on after 500 miles or so......weird front tyre feel.....always liked 010's on the road SL - 2CT's again!!! - everybody loves them - I've got SC's on my trackbike & they are mint - tried Dunlop 209gp race & they are great on the track - tried the 120/70 190/55 combo - very good & they do a slick version for track only - guy martin reviewed them & rated them......... |

Quite why people put stuff like SuperCorsa Pros on for road use is beyond me tbh. They are road-legal race tyres designed for use with warmers. |

Pilot road 2 get my vote. |

I used to ride 010's religiously, then Diablo came out and i loved em. Corsa more so. Diablo III's felt good to start with, but the SC pro were lousy as a road tyre, so the Diablo had to be better. 016's have great feedback, specially the front and i ride the front hard so need that from a tyre. Not tried 2CT's but for me at least i have all i want from the 16's now. |
twpd - have to agree on that one - but they do work & look good & are good for trackdays...& you don't need warmers for the road compond btw .........but let's be honest who hasn't put racy tyres on their bike - when I first got my sps I put Rennsport streets on it - I got the horn everytime I looked at them!!!!!!!!!!!! Right - looks like 2ct/road 2's or 016's...... Decisions decisions thanks for all the advice......:-) |
i have pirelli diablo corsa111 on the S4 now ...excellent before used metzler Z6 also excellent and 9000miles life from the rear, michelin pilot sports are terrible, On my 750ss ihave Dunlop D208s which are good and on the M750 metzler Z6. |

You sure you mean Pilot Sport's?? I have 3 sets of them on my ST4S-never had any problems and that includes track riding. I also used Diablo's-ok, Diablo Road-also ok, and it had Michelin Pilot Road 2CT on it when I sold it which were great. I use Pilot Power 2CT on Sparky which are great. Now, if you were talking about Michelin Highsports-or Highsides as we used to call them-different matter. Now there was a tyre which needed LOTS of warming up-good grip once warm-but if it let go......................... John |
Monty Mich Pilot sports - work of the devil :-) Highsports were nice IMO |
Diablo Corsa's absolutely ideal for me. Diablo is a good tyre and the Corsa just gives the edge for the bigger bikes. I like em so much, Nellys got a set on hold for me ;) He's got a few left for-sale too at a very good price. Andy |
I really like Diablo Corsa's as well (not 111's) How much is Nelly charging??? Looking for 180/55 120/70 |

Give him a ring 01623 758877, but dont leave it as he's only got a few sets left and they deffo right money ;) Andy |
Simple pilot powers transformed my old 999 and 900ss so whilst an old tyre now I do think I'm going to chuck them on my new 749, something in the profile just seems to work (for me) |
Made a good choice as they work as expected on the 749 |
Got Dunlops on mine cant fault em |
No one has mentioned suspension changes when they change tyres ... they just write the tyres off as rubbish ..... there really aren't many bad tyres out there for sportsbikes. Most Michelins are 'softwalled' and work best with a hard suspension setup that makes the tyre move around/heat up, but Dunlops tend to be the other way round, with a harder carcass which need a softer suspension setup to get the same tyre movement/heat ...... check out the weight differences of the two! It's all a matter of balancing the tyre and the suspension to let the tyre do it's job ... but you'll never get a touring tyre designed for longevity to work properly on track, or a fast road tyre to work on a wet, cold, B-road commute ...... |
Agree - I back off my suspension a bit for the Dunlop SportSmarts after the Pirelli diabl Supercorsa's..... |
