Rev counter

I'm looking for a late 583 monster engine rev counter and
wondered what i can fit ?

I have a 900ssie one but i'm told it needs the ecu output to work....?

Thanks :)

skidlids 26-Dec-2009 14:56

Steve your not at Mallory then

DP ones will fit as will a Stack Tacho and a Scitsu with Red Backing, a Elliot one will probably be OK as well

The frosty morning put that idea to bed

skidlids 26-Dec-2009 15:16

Frost what Frost
Early morning rain followed by sunshine down this way :)

Imola Duke 26-Dec-2009 21:07

Over this way .... to cold for me :)

So i spent a couple of hours in the shed checking the shims on the bitsa,
which were all in tolerance :)

Funny that
Seems like that is often the case when raced by someone who has many years experience of riding and racing Ducatis, they learn not to over rev them.
Get the gearing right and get Max Power and Max Torque figures from a Dyno run then ride it to the rev counter in the first 4 gears.

I learnt not to over rev ducati's long ago with the threat of a good kicking
off the old chap when he let me loose on his MHR bevel....

Gilps 27-Dec-2009 06:02

I put an Elliot one on mine. Easy to fit and good service and advice from them.

kenoir 28-Dec-2009 21:51

I've got a Scitsu for mine! Can't tell you if it's working yet but it should be OK

Should have a RED backing on it

although I do have a Red backed Scitsu that didn't read correctly on my 600SS.
As its direct powered from the bikes battery I think its been back to the factory and altered to run on a bike using a P8 computer such as a SPS.

Imola Duke 28-Dec-2009 23:21

Before i buy a rev counter i need to source some legal forks

brummydave 24-Jan-2010 09:28

steve, for christmas santa bought me a realy trick lookin high intensity led rev counter for 2,4,6,8, cylinders.it didnt work!!! its for single line pulse ignition (1 coil) gave up and got a cable drive one on e bay fo £15.00 doh!

skidlids 24-Jan-2010 11:13

Dave the engine in Steves bike is the last of the 583 Monsters and can not take a cable Tacho

Steve I notice there is a Elliot Tacho ending on Ebay later today, not sure what models it will work with

Imola Duke 24-Jan-2010 15:18

Can't find that one on ebay Kev ?

Gilps 24-Jan-2010 15:28

The only one I can find on ebay which may possibly be suitable is this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Elliot-Profess...item27aeb8409a

He's asking £120 which is about what I paid for my one brand new, like this

bradders 24-Jan-2010 15:37

Is it plug and play easy gilps? Be looking for one myself soon

faith-healer 24-Jan-2010 17:52

Scitsu tacho's are also a good bet and they come up on 'Fleabay' quite often.

You need the RED model

There is a round label on the back for identification...No other colour will work on earlier Ducatis

It needs an earth (just ran mine on to the fairing mount), a positive (I spliced in to the kill switch as it stays live and runs down the battery if connected to a permanent live feed) and the signal wire. Take the signal wire off the coil and not the CDI, just piggy-back off the spade connector.
I think I had Elliots also supply a couple of rubber mounts which fitted straight on to the holes in the fairing mount which made fitting it easier. I dealt with Brian who was really helpful.

Hi Mate,

I was looking at £120inc P+P.

Remembering Elliots prices on the website are plus vat and postage!

cheers,
Jasper

This is the one I spoted
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Says for 4 cyl but not sure what type as its listed for cars and they use to use distributers with one coil so probably different to what my 4-cyl CBR600 would use with its 2 coil wasted spark setup
Similar problem with Tachos that will run on a 916 with its 1.6m ECU but not on a 916SPS with a P8 ECU.

I have nice direct powered Scitsu here with RED back sat on the shelf, but fit it to a DD bike and it reads twice the revs that it should, I think its been altered internally to work on a SPS, caught me out when I bought it for my DD bike a few years ago.
Must try it on a SPS sometime to see how it reads

The direct wired REDS can pick up the 'used' spark (and the 'wasted' one) for both cylinders but with the 'soft wired' type with the pickup lead taped to a single HT lead this doesn't happen.

Tony Dawson (who originally produced Scitsu's) will service and recalibrate any of his tacho at very cheap prices IMO

I had an old 'BLUE' which I sent to him for service and recal' and was quoted £30
