ebay 748 Does anyone have any idea why this 748 is being bidded so highly??! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Does the bid history have anything to do with it - scamauction being the highest bidder so far.... |
It looks like a scam. The pics come from here: http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/003930/ According to the profile on BikePics, the owner comes from Edinburgh but the seller is located in London. The seller registered on the same day as starting selling - 0 feedback, etc. The description contains no details you would expect to see about the bike other than the manufacturer's spec - where's the service history? Type of tyres? Any faults? Why is he selling? MOT? Tax? etc etc - all the stuff you would normally put into an advert. So yes, it looks very dodgy. |
so do u think they're trying to scam someone out of money, or just putting on a funny show for themselves?? |
IT is a scam. Zero Feedback, new user, will ship worldwide as part of the cost, and oh yeah you cant view the bike unless you give a 2k deposit before, even before the auction has ended. DEFINATE SCAM! |
The scam is that they "sell" the (non-existent) bike, then ask for a deposit up-front to secure the bike. This is usually around £2,000 and paid via Western Union. The problem is that using Western Union is like sending cash. Despite what the seller will tell you, once the money has been wired to a WU office, as long as you know the sender's name you can walk into that office and claim the money. No secret passwords, clearance codes or id required - you just take the cash. Another version is that the money is put into an Escrow account. Escrow is where an intermediary company is used to hold a deposit until the goods are released. The scam here is that the money is paid into a FAKE escrow account and just disappears. While I agree with the point that it's nice to take a deposit from an ebayer to secure the sale (and weed out non-legitimate buyers) I would never hand over any money without having first seen the bike and first checked the history of it. Hope this explains it... |
Just to add these frauds arent only with bikes... Youll find them with bike and car parts, cars, watches and some others. TJ |
just mailed the guy on bike pics about this |
I was actually on ebay scanning hte 911s the other week and say a 2000 Carrera2 for 15k, then i clicked on it and saw it was a scam :( Always too good to be true. |
