SS tank on Monster frame? I'm sure someone has done this and if so do you have any pictures? :D |
just drops straight on doesn't it? |

No! you have to move the battery, ecu, fuse box ect, if you lookat Dallas's bike I did that one, it's a bit of a fiddle to do it properly. ps. you also have to change the pump if it's a carby tank you are useing, & do some thing to support the front end. |
Oties bike also has a 748 tank on it, you have to move the items Chaz mentioned, plus remodel the underside of the tanka little, a good mod. Chris:burn: |
Re-model is Crhis' polite way of saying hit multiple times with a hammer. No idea who the hell Otie is though! ;) But yes, a great mod and I'm glad we took the time to do it. |
something \I may do for next year. I have an SS tank and pump in the garage, and as there is a little less of me, and fingers crossed back sorted soon so by March next year a LOT less of me, I should be able to manage the higher tank. \makes much more sense for using your knees etc |

Or Crhis' come to thnik of it:lol: Chris:burn: |
An 888 Corsa tank fits straight on a monster! ;) .....and much better it is too! |

Isnt the corsa tank carbon though? |
No. It is 4.5kg of Aluminium loveliness! There was a carbon one available though. |
been looking at alli tanks on ebay and wondering what I could get to fit; some of those norton and triumph one,s oh and TZ ones, seems decent value rather than a custom made if it can be fitted. |

Most of the bikes mentioned above have a spine frame so their tanks are unlikely to fit |

yep noticed they do, well the ones with pics shown upside down think its either off the shelf, like Ron has, or custom job like Ghost's (altho not as extreme!) lets see what the winter brings....mine will probably be just as much a rat bike come March as it is now! |
Neal Catling's alloy tank is a tidy enough job Harris Performance use to have Monster Alloy tanks along with others in their catalouge, pretty sure it was Asa Moyce making them for Harris. The Guy that did my 2 into 1 conversion said he could do me a Alloy tank, but with most these things they are never going to be that cheap if they are hand built one offs |
Just don't go near thetankshop.com I sent them a tank of Skids as a template last October, with a promise it would be ready before the first round... and a promise for every round after that. When I cancelled the order 3 weeks ago, he apparently still intended to make it!!!?! FFS!! Thanks to Awesome Lawson I got a bargain on eBay that cost less than thetankshop one would have anyway... And is a much nicer shape for riding. |
I did approach an engineering shop in Stike area. He would do one to order and pressure test it but as with everything else n life he wanted £450. For that he did a template knocked up the tank and threw in a cap. There are a few alloy tanks for competition cars on the bay but could not find one in an appropriate shape. M |

Not sure how long that has been on Ebay, I do recall coming across it before now and if it had of been suitable for an SS I would have had a punt |

ar yes, been watching that thx for the heads up to everyone else ;) Ron - did you do it yourself or get Dave to do it? I have an SS tank in the garage incl pump, 7.1kgs (just weighed it) and wonder it (electrics relocating aside) it is that difficult to go on. |
Mine isn't an SS one. It is an 888 one, which shares a very similar frame to the monster. Did it myself (plus father). My monster tank was only 7.1kg anyway (including cap/hoses/filter), so I doubt you would be saving much with the SS tank, and just creating a headache for yourself. |

Please say you realised that was purposefull irony? |

cool, coz my question was about the 888 tank which is the same as the one in the link? May be worth a punt then at the right price. So no extra outside fuel pump then? Just swap fittings from your monster tank? if I changed to the Ss it would only be for ergonomics; I wonder if I could use my kness more with a tank that has proper sides rather than the monster ones. I reckon the tanks are pretty much same weight |

IS IT ????? as the one in the auction link says 888/851/900SS etc well that would be two different style frames and I can't see it fitting both Then again it could be for the Spondon Alloy beam Frame that they built that you could fit a Ducati engine in be it a 888, 851 or a 900SS engine Might have to dig out some old mags as I can't recall if they also did a tubed trellis frame for the Ducati engines Either way its still a nice tank for the right money |
ar yeah good point. Looks can be deceiving....altho right colour too ;) pics of the bottom look like a fairly open area, what do you reckon? |

Yes, I did ;) Chris:burn: |
The only thing I would say is you 'might' have problems with the airbox and igniter boxes (mine was tight, and it seemed to have a bigger void under the tank - though it is hard to tell).... Although a lot of people have relocated those anyway. The front mount on this one is a little different to mine, but it looks like you might just need a little plate to bolt it to. I still have a little external pump on mine, not the one in the tank, because the 888 (I think) was fuel injected with a much higher pressure pump. |
so cant be vacuum fed then ala monster tank? May still be worth a punt for next year, especially if its a couple of kilos lighetr and goes for the right money, although how heavy is the pump? The SS tank was weighed with inside pump fitted |
That one prob could because of where the feed is. The 888 outlet is 1/3 up the tank, so I need it to get the fuel up and out. Mine had an elec pump anyway (weighs no more than 500g), so any saving on the tank is still a saving. Even if I had gone from a steel tank without pump to the 888 tank with pump, it would still be a 2kg saving. |
