One more thing!.......Gearboxes! Anybody out there missing gearchanges?(Up and down!) The 749/999 gear lever seams to have a lot of travel.A lot more than any other Duke I've owned or ridden. The more miles I put on the bike (4700+) the more gear changes I miss. Its not just me either. The multi bike test in MCN the other week said the 999 missed some changes. |
Yeah, I usually miss a couple of changes in the course of a 80 mile blat. Most disconcerting. |
The 999 gear lever does have a lot of travel. I missed the odd up shift early on, so adjusted the lever down by about 10mm to enable a more positive action. Haven't missed any changes since. R. |
Havent missed any on the 998, I know it's the same engine, is it a different box? |
check ur chain tension. there's another thread about this further up cheers ned |
Keith, no problem here to speak of. I've the DP rearsets and linkage on the centre setting & its as tight as a nun's ****. It's certainly tighter and more positive than the OEM stuff. |
i used to on the 749 but undone the bolt and adjusted it and its like brand new again, thought it was just me not pushing it up enough. |
I'll testify that adjusting the gear lever to the correct position, and making sure the chain tension is right, will reduce the number of missed gear changes. They are very rare now! :smug: Still get noisy clonking though. However, I've just re-adjusted my pegs to the rear-most position, which probably means more missed changes and counter-adjustments until I get it right. How I love to tinker ... NOT! :) |

I guess you mean the bolt halfway down the link rod?I'll check mine later. |
Yes i have done 120 miles on the new 749 Dark and have had about 30 !!! 1st to 2nd misses. I put it down to me being to gentle with the new bike. I am going to take Reapers advice and adjust things slightly, i will also check the chain. I will feedback how i get on over the course of the week Regards ScottyB |
yes I do mean the bolt half way down the rod and they are a push fit. youll suss it as soon as you undo it. |
Lower your gear lever - standard factory setting is too high. |
Experienced it on all my Ducs, and found that it's a good prompt for adjusting the chain. You can tell I have absolutely no mechanical skills can't you:lol: Works for me. |
