Here are some pictures of the old girl being stripped down (careful lads, that's my daughter!! )

Shows the original bike without the plastic

Then stripped down and some follow up photos of bits back from the powdercoating

Pictures of Red, White and Green frames
Now where have I seen those colours together before

Flatline, I'm suprised you didn't carry out any mods to the subframe before having it powder-coated
Check out the modified subframe on Senna3's frame

Thanks for the comments guys

Probably best to let you know where I am coming from

This is my first project, and as I am discovering there is an awful lot you can do, and spend

I did sit down and have a think about all sorts of colour schemes, wheels and brakes etc etc

However as it's my first project and not a lot of money,(building trade) I decided to stick to pretty much basic colours and equipment and put a nice simple clean looking bike on the road, once that is done, who knows?

I realise that mistakes will be made by not doing things in a certain way

You guys will already know that, as I am new to this, half the time I won't realise that something needs doing until it's too late:(

Even fitting a single headlight will be a stretch, there are the electrics to move etc etc so that's going to be interesting:o

So bear with me, I will hopefully ask the right questions before I go ahead and do something, but probably not always

Mind you, this is fairly basic colours:D

[IMG][/IMG]

Not sure if I can manage one of these:frog:

I am always open to suggestions of things that should be looked at

Owning a Honda Firestorm, I just get on it and ride! (and it's still faster than I am:( )

Your help and input much appreciated

Regards

I would be considering going with a few Monster parts, such as loom and switch gear and possibly speedo as everything on the SS is based around having a fairing bracket

flatline 04-Nov-2011 09:14

Ahh, once you say that it seems obvious

Early monsters I assume?

Cheers

Yep from around 94 to 99, either 600,750 or 900 so long as its carbed and the model its from didn't have the electric carb heaters (which I think were about year 2000)

Control relay and Fusbox are mounted under the seat on the Monster, Battery, Igniters etc are pretty much the same position as the SS

flatline 05-Nov-2011 18:36

You seem to know your way around Ducatis m8

Thanks for the info

To true, can't walk around my house in the dark for tripping over Ducati parts

Only 11 complete Ducatis with another 3 in parts, plus all the spares, then I still have 3 Ex Jap race bikes. So yep its a bit full here

flatline 07-Nov-2011 13:42

Just 11,

You have any of the part I need for sale?

Regards

Sadly not, I'm just finishing putting a Monster together, 600 'L' reg frame fitted with the last of the 750 Carb'd engines, still need to find a couple of bits myself to finish it off

flatline 08-Nov-2011 08:32

No problem

Though I am sure you will have plenty of sources for parts, if you let me know what you need, I will keep an eye out as I search

I can let you know if I come across anything

Regards

Iconic944ss 08-Nov-2011 09:48

Oddly enough I have set of older (916?) SBK forks, 40mm caliper spacing and with really nice polished legs and yolks that I might be parting with if dosh becomes even more of an issue.....

As is seems it well might !

flatline 08-Nov-2011 17:10

On ebay there is Digglersdeals with some parts for sale if its of any use

I think they would discribe me as a regular customer, just had a few bits from Pinwall in America arrive

Main bit I need is a front headlight Mounting bracket from a M750 or M900
I have a M600 one but its for single brake line and for some reason seems a bit short as it doesn't seem to engage that well with the two extended screws that mount the clocks to the top yoke

That bike is fantastic the photo's don't do it justice, Rich of Louigi Moto built it from a DD bike, I rode it in the south of Fance last year it rides as well as it looks.

New Picture

Just found this which is just like the bike I am building

With different colours though

Tank is off to powdercoaters and the ally bits are in for cleaning and blasting, I may then get them anodised

Looking forward to getting started on the build

Buying clocks, headlight, indicators and tail light are next on the agenda

Going to start fibreglassing a tail unit as I cant find anyone who makes them

flatline 21-Dec-2011 18:25

Update 21 Dec 2011

Just updated the seat unit thread

The tank ended up with dust under the powdercoating so they had another go but the same thing happened again

After Christmas its going back to be stripped again and re-done

They are a good bunch of guys and these things happen

Anyone wanting the contact details let me know

They are near Bradford in West Yorkshire

The brightwork has been blasted and looks a treat

This gives an idea of what it will look like

bradders 21-Dec-2011 21:50

I assume the wood will go - its just part of the mould?

Oh! Do I have to remove it

Seriously though, yep it will be 'glassed over

I have now done the fibreglassing so will post pictures soon

flatline 05-Jan-2012 20:35

DuCafe update

Now making the first attempt to rebuild the bike

Started by putting engine on blocks and getting frame on

Once secured I have strapped it up to the scaffold pole that is fitted to the walls in my office:lol:

Then its a case of adding bits

And more bits

Found that one of the fork legs is longer than the other so a strip and rebuild is on the cards

There is a guy on ebay selling skf front wheel bearings for £6 posted

The steering head bearings cost £31 each from Ducati

Learnt my lesson there:eek:

The tank is back at the powdercoaters to be stripped and re-coated

Whilst it has the coat stripped off I will be getting a few areas leaded as its not quite perfect

One thing I have learnt is that even when things are bagged and labelled
things still don't fit:lol:

bradders 05-Jan-2012 21:50

I'd still love to strip my race back like this but don't have the balls...something will not go back for sure! maybe next winter....

Is there no-one in your area to help with advice?

skidlids 07-Jan-2012 01:51

Just realised from the diameter of the swingarm pivot just how early a 750SS you have there
Although most of what I can see now looks like new

flatline 07-Jan-2012 09:57

Yeh, bought a bench grinder, some wheels for the drill and a dremel

They gets things shiny :)

Once everything is put together I can take it all apart and fix what I don't like, get things anodised, frame welded and powdercoated (as mentioned) etc

Still not sure about the colour scheme, so its an opportunity to see whether I want to change any of the colours

As I have to strip the forks, are there any useful mods to do, its not a track bike and certainly won't be thrashed

Also the engine, different filter etc

Anything worth considering or absolutely necessary?

flatline 25-Jan-2012 17:31

Update 25 Jan 2012

Been a bit busy but things have moved forward a bit now

All the bolts and stuff have been cleaned up before deciding the colour to use

Held up by one strap

I am going to make a new seat

I have a better idea of what I need to do now

skidlids 25-Jan-2012 20:03

Looks like you could do with some rearsets, maybe I should delve into my spares box

flatline 25-Jan-2012 21:05

Oh good, here's the shopping list::lol:

Monster headlight (Found a supplier..£90 plus carriage)

Monster switchgear

Monster speedo

Get some headlight/indicator brackets made

Get some speedo brackets made

Rear light/indicator and numberplate bracket

New slip on exhausts

How much are rearsets anyway?

Got a feeling they will have to come after this list

Of course if you are able to help with any of these................?

Thanks for your help buddy :)

bradders 25-Jan-2012 21:22

I probably have most of that, as I am selling my road kit from my 620 monster. PM me what you need and I'll have a look

Iconic944ss 26-Jan-2012 12:21

Here's an interesting example:

flatline 26-Jan-2012 12:37

I like the idea of 2 into 1

Thanks for that, gives me confidence in what I am doing will look good
