race bikes?

Do many bikes on the grid run fully naked or is at least some form of aerodynamics recommended? At most I'll have a nose fairing, but I'm considering leaving this off (partly because the bracket obscures the VIN, and I read somewhere this will be actively checked this season? :confused: )

I've seen various threads about aeros, "which fairing" etc and read the performance bikes (I think?) article with the Diversion 600 where aeros helped top speed more than similarly priced engine mods.

So, I think the answer is "in theory, aerodynamics helps, especially top speed", but are there any full naked bikes in DD?

You will need something to get the wind over you IMO

Paul Baleta runs his bike with no fairings just a number board.
IMO deffo a top fairing at least. :D

Fairings -

Pros - hides all the wiring, gives you somewhere to put your sponsors' stickers and supposedly helps top speed

Cons - need to make brackets up, a bit more weight to carry and more to fix or replace if you crash

Me - I compromise with a 916 nose fairing and a monster bellypan......

Same here, but 848 nose cone

I ran both last year, full fairing till Mallory then just bikini type after (thanks to the tyre wall at Gerrards). I didn't really notice any performance difference but was glad of the lack of side panels at a windy Anglesea.

Looks-wise, a well prepped one like Ron's (till he binned it) or the Kenoir and Jules 1098 ones are really nice. The least I'd run with is a belly pan (required) and a nose cone.

See I've been debating full fairing, half faring since I bought my bike. I know I'm going to crash so to save money on panels, I went for just nose cone and belly pan. See if i did have full fairing and crashed and was still possible to carry on in next race, I'd still need to somehow fix on a belly pan for acu requirements. So think it's going to save money, time and it wont affect your top speed too much.

decision made then: I'll fix the bracket and use a nose cone and belly pan.

One of my main worries was the hassle of removing every time for scruitinrering if they want to see frame numbers, but I may see what I can come up with in terms of quick access

In my opinion, damage that needs replacing to keep racing isnt any different with or without full fairings.... It is nearly always pegs/clipons/levers/screen... The same whatever you run

Found this piccy on my iPhone. You can just about make out the front fairing mount and the extra arm coming down. It definitely made the nose on mine much more stable.
