Hate when people try and sell off the 900s as an SS

Must admit they haven't tried very hard have they to replicate the 1978 look have they!

You have to ask where these "brand new" bikes have been stored - probably need an engine re-build to replace dired out seals, etc,

900MAN 25-Jan-2012 13:23

Loads of places are trying to knock the last of the 900S models as SS

Ducati Uk should point the error of their ways to them.

"brand new and also a parallel import"

Where the hell are all these 900 SuperSports coming from?!?

ChrisBushell 25-Jan-2012 14:03

Antony,

That was the thought that had occured to me or are they re-manufactured?

Did you refer to them as SS on purpose? ;o)

Looks like a 900 Supersport ie to me

900MAN 25-Jan-2012 20:50

Biggest give away is the three spoke wheels, they changed to five spoke for the later SS model, also the swingarm is not the same ( non polished makes it easy to spot) plus non Ohlins rear shock.
It's obvious they have had them painted up to hide the fact it started off as a Matt black S

skidlids 25-Jan-2012 21:05

Thats the trouble with owning a 750SSie for 6 years the 900 version looks pretty much the same but came with alloy arm and adjustable forks

bradders 25-Jan-2012 21:43

looks just like every SS I've seen, 800 900 1000 alike :puzzled: Never seen one with an Ohlins rear as standard

S had only a steel swingarm for a start and all 900SS with 5 spoke wheels would have the Ohlins rear.
All 1000SS had Ohlins and the very last also went to red frame and black wheels

Sure you could get an extensive breakdown via google ;0)

bradders 25-Jan-2012 22:12

Is there something pedantic or a nuance I'm missing; supersport = SS or is it super sport SS ?

mind you, with Ducati, they could have fitted anything to hand!!

900MAN 25-Jan-2012 22:22

900 SS is supersport
900 S is sport

Ps think I'm the pedant getting annoyed with dealer calling sports supersports

bradders 25-Jan-2012 22:26

well I for one would never have known! Everything is an SS to me

nothing wrong with being a pedant if it helps others not get ripped off ;)

Your point about not knowing is exactly why it annoys me

bradders 25-Jan-2012 22:46

seems researching inst the answer either...

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bi...0SS-1990-2002/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducati_SuperSport

clear as mud then.....SS is SuperSport and only mention of an S is as a lower spec SS - so still an SS then :puzzled:

Same guy has bike listed on MCN as 900 S

900MAN 25-Jan-2012 22:54

In a nutshell from mcn

Ducati 900S: Budget version of the 900SS. Sold from November 2001-2002.

Painting it and declaring as an SS is simply misleading
