Guys, I have been suffering the same symptoms on my desktop. It seems that Microsoft decided that I should upgrade to Internet Explorer 9.0, did so without ask me.

The DSC site is the only one that I am having problems with and I dont have the same problem with IE* on teh laptop!

Go figure!

bradders 06-Mar-2012 17:00

never works on my ipod, nor todays posts, and often not on my netbook thru google chrome

nelly 06-Mar-2012 21:10

I'm running windows 7 and vista, IE8 and IE9. Hardly ever works on any of them. Occasionally, "todays posts" works

Sorry but I cant replicate a condition that causes the new posts to fail as such.

The full link for todays posts is:

Maybe you could let us know what browser & Operating system you are using please?

Frank

Frank,

I am fairly certain that this is a problem related to IE9

chrisw 07-Mar-2012 10:29

Win 7 and Firefox 10.0.2 works fine

bradders 07-Mar-2012 11:04

what about safari? Anyone else having the same issue there? As I said, google chrome often doesnt work but not always....

chrisw 07-Mar-2012 11:09

iPad and Safari works fine

Dukeman358 07-Mar-2012 14:14

My Ipad/phone doent work and also my laptop but work desktop appears to be fine.

antonye 07-Mar-2012 15:47

It is very intermittent and once I get 5 mins I will have a better look.
It works fine for me in Chrome and IE6 but not on my iPhone or iPad.

Chaz 07-Mar-2012 19:07

Works on my iPhone & iPad if I don't log in for the first 2/3 times then it stops working if I then turn the devices off & on again will work as long as I don't log on weird or what??

Hi Neil,

Just tried Win7/IE9 combo and everything works fine here, I'm afraid, only exception was that I had to allow Adobe flash player access but I cant se what that would have to do with allowing the search link to run.

Also tried Win/Chrome and although the new posts works fine now the drop-down submenus dont even appear - so we'll just put that down to Google!

Will look into it when I get chance.

antonye 08-Mar-2012 18:00

The main problem is that this version of vbb pre-dates a lot of the latest browsers like IE6/7/8/9, Chrome, etc.
I need to figure out what the issue is first and then hack the code to fix it.

New posts clicky U/S

Antonye,

have you got to the bottom of this problem yet? It's very annoying and does not embode a good feeling when using this website when compared to new younger sites available.

In fact, it p****s me right off...................:(

Unfortunately not - there's no upgrade path for this version of the software, and I'm reluctant to even look at the source code to try and bodge it to work as I'm not familiar with the source.

However, if you'd like me to provide you with a copy of the code to look through and see if you can fix it, I'd be more than happy to.

MJS 18-Apr-2012 14:29

The only problem I get is, the new posts total is now showing huge numbers.... over a 100 at times... when there's really only half a dozen...

Everything else works fine for me

That is correct - it is counting the News Feeds section in the new posts total, but it excludes them from the New Posts page to stop it polluting that page!

Please send it Antonye,

I will get one of the IT types in work to look at your configuration. Still p****s me off that as members we can't get it fixed by a IT professional. I know I moaning, but I pays me money and expects delivery of services that are of sufficient standard to enable all to have the same FUNCTIONING facilities within the forum space.

Mike, off to play with a delta v issue.

Sure no problem, just drop me an email address you'd like it zipped to.

The issue is that it's an older version of the vBB system with no support from the vendor any more, and the browsers have moved on since then, so it appears that while some work fine (as witnessed above) others don't (as also witnessed above).

Personally I'd like to rip out this whole vBB system and replace it with something newer (as there's a lot of "features" which really **** me off too!) and it was one of the objectives set out by the new MT, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to have been any progress made on that so far.

bradders 18-Apr-2012 18:02

not alone - when I use my ipad or ipod, it wont work. I have noticed it comes up as a number in the address bar, but if I select the bar and look at previous, it comes up 'get-daily' then it works...no idea what it means!!

antonye 20-Apr-2012 22:31

Right, after a bit more digging with Google I *think* I might have just fixed it by changing some of the settings for cookies.

I did a quick check on the iPad and it seems ok, but if others can check and let me know if it works I would be grateful!

antonye 20-Apr-2012 23:03

Ha! After a bit more fiddling I've also fixed the formatting of the Quick Links drop-down menu, for those browsers that support it ... and all I need to do now is update that browser list if I can find it!!
