who owns what now?

with seeminly lots of 749r's coming on the scene just wondered who owns what with regard to the latest series?

Real McCoy 01-Jul-2004 10:27

Iv got the 999s and after 5mth its starting to grow on me,after stepping off a new gixxer 1000 k3 i thought id made a big mistake regards the power etc,but the handling and looks won me round.
Besides theres more to it than that right

749S for me, changed from an Aprilia RSV. The 749S is an absolute blast to ride. The 749/999 series, to me, are also the best looking bikes on sale today. Took a while for them to win me over though, but I love them now.

Good looking bikes but just found the 998 fitted me better otherwise I'd have gone for the 999BP.

I px a 999 for a 749R so far pleased with the purchase!

everton 01-Jul-2004 14:17

999R & soon to own a Multistrada as well.

Glad to be back to Dukes only.............. :smug::smug::smug:

Last time it was a 996SPS & Monster S4

RedMist 01-Jul-2004 17:09

Just run in new 749s - 5th Duke for me and the best - couldn't be happier with the handling/top-end. Needs a little bit more grunt lower down - think I'll invest in some Termi's and a tune soon.

Roll on TA2.5 & TA3.:D

Moved fom a 748bp to a 749r and have loved every single mile, could,nt take to the gray frame and wheels 1st of all when thay came out but after seeing the 04 749/999r decided that was the bike to have and after riding it well oh my god say no more!

Loz 01-Jul-2004 22:56

I own a 999S and a 750 Sport. I've ridden a 749S, a Numptystrada and a Monster 800. The 749S was superb, the Monster was grin-inducing and the MS made me laugh (but not in an entirely good way).
I want to try an ST4S for size one day, maybe as a final attempt to get the pillion to try touring!

How did the 749S you tried compare to the 999S you own?:)

from an interested 749S owner and potential 999S buyer!

Ferrari Pete 02-Jul-2004 17:20

My choice

Jumped from a Gixer 6 to 998Bip to the 749R I couldnt tell you what is like as im running it in. It took me some time to get use to the new shape but after seeing the 749R in JHP showroom i fell in love

electricsheep 02-Jul-2004 17:27

I got a 749R from DLS, traded in an '03 R1 for it. It's been to snetterton and Rockingham. Just keeps getting better:sing:

Strictly from a road standpoint (and IMO), the 749S has more than ample performance from the engine and suspension standpoints. I suppose the main thing that sold me on the bigger bike (and has subsequently been borne out by experience) is that I can be lazy regarding gear selection at times. Not having to change down (as did on the 749S) is a big bonus for me during the times I am bimbling and not attempting to nail it :)

Plus, I really wanted the Ohlins suspension, rather than the Showa - not that my abilities as a rider demand it, it's more to do with snobbery really!

I suppose, too, I wanted the bigger bike on the off-chance that maybe, just maybe, I might have been eventually become disappointed with the comparative lack of horses and all-out grunt of the 749S. As my sensei, Barry Stokes, used to say, there's no substitute for cubes :)

Just my two cents of course.

Sent the 748R back after it turned out to be a shed.....

Took delivery of the new 749 Dark on Tuesday night.....36 miles on the clock so far......

I am still to be convinced by the new shape, but it is growing on me by the minute.
