thats to close :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::flame: riding along minding me own buisness on me way to work:mad:on a duel carridge way:mad:it's a 40 limit and im sticking to it:mad:coming up on a round about with a little blue nova slightly in front of me:mad:he's on the inside lane as if he's going to turn right:mad:im on the outside to go straight:mad:as we slow for the round about i start to come along side the nova and he starts to drift over in to my lane:mad:im not to worried as by this stage as im now slightly in front and im sure he'll see me at any second:mad:but no he keeps on coming:mad:so i move over as far as i can and give a little squirt of the throttle, (this is happening as were entering the roundabout)so i cant give it loads but it was deffinatly to little too late:mad:cause this is when the twit hit me:mad:i thought at the time that the front bumper had hit the back of my boot knocking it off the peg and trapping it against the bike :mad:this bloke just kept coming though i still dont think he'd seen me:mad:as for a few seconds he didn't back off:mad:the back of the bike is bouncing about like a good un:mad:eventually he wakes up and brakes:mad:i have no problem getting the bike back together under me:mad: we pull over and im so mad that i don't even look at the bike just have a right go at this nob, explaining to him the sort of iq levels needed to be in charge of a motor vehicle, then stomp back to me bike and storm off in a hump. upon a later examination he's accually hit me right at the back of the exhaust and carried on up to me boot:mad:nice scrape on the exhaust and also a dent on the lower pipe near where it joins the engine, i think this is where he trapped me foot:mad: but all things being equel i think i had a lucky escape:) |
It was a lucky escape BUT........FOOL'S like that shouldn't be able to walk without someone holding their hand let alone drive:flame::mad: Maybe the type of 'car' says it all!!! Glad your ok. |
:o Cripes Glyn! Dont suppose you got his reg to report him or get his insurance for the damage? |
sounds like a close call Glyn You sound OK which is probably the main thing 4 wheel muppets need to be kept where they belong in the 4 wheel muppet factory again glad you are OK rgds mort |
Glyn ,the same thing has happened to me twice, only a few years ago .Minding me own business, Like one does, this muppet side swips me putting me on the pavement and clears of, the other time idiot2 pull across from the left lane to go right, taking me with him. You can't believe it when it happens It beyond comprehension.Pleased to hear your OK as it could have been worst. Although the Exaust could be expensive to replace. Maybe you'lle catch up with the car some time if hes a regular on that stretch. 4D [Edited on 1-7-2004 by Fordie] |
You have to be in charge of your own destiny! If you treat everyone as if they are the nerd in the blue nova, you will protect yourself. Do not put yourself up on offer. If that means staying behind the hazard whatever form its in, then so be it. Never sit along side anything either, you have no escape, and if your going to pass do it when you can clear off into the distance. As annoying as it is, you have to be in charge, so the nerd doesnt get an opportunity to do your legs. |
Agree with you totally andy. Although many people need to have their licences burned (while still in their pocket!) I don't think there's many accidents that can't be prevented, regardless of who's to blame for causing it. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to defend the nova nerd who can't be arsed to put his specs on, and yes I think he deserves a good kickin', but doing our best to prevent bad stuff happening is so much less painful than assigning blame from a hospital bed! |
Lucky escape Glynn, glad you're OK. Round here (warrington) the council has painted lanes all round the roundabouts, still doesn't stop the idiots drifting across though. Sounds like you had a near miss of the type that Mark Knopfler had. Didn't he get knocked off in similar circumstance. I recall seeing a comment that he said just about the same as you tell it Glynn, the car just kept on coming and he was saying to himself "she's gonna see me, she's gonna see me, she's gonna see me ....oh ****!" 'cept he took her to court of course. Anyone know what happened? |
Glyn...I am SO glad you are ok...it could have been much worse...Travelling to work in the morning I put as much distance between me and ANY four wheels that I can. Hope you managed to get his Insurance details, registration AND reported it...sounds like you didn't mind you... I just hope that there isn't too much damage and you aren't in too much shock. :( On the up note though...if there are any repairs...I'll see you at Nelly's for a cup of coffee!:P;):D |
whenever i ride over to visit my sister, she always remarks "so, did anyone try and kill you on your way this time?" says it all really, trouble is, sometimes my reply is "yes" glad your still in one piece glyn..and hope the little one aint giving you to many sleepless nights :P |
Glyn, Glad to hear you're in one piece, I'm sure you'll be keeping an eye out for the little **** in the future........ :flame: Cheers, Martin |
Glyn mate.... I'm really glad you're OK and that you are not too damaged. Glad the bike is still rideable as well, so we'll still be able to ride together soon....who would I have to take the P out of if you weren't about. Tell you what, I've got a damaged RHS exhaust you can have so's you can have matching damage both sides if you want. |
I have to say, i've kicked a few cars for the very same reason, and if i don't feel comfy about the car drivers ability, i stick behind them. Often roundabouts the boot is required and the middle finger often displayed. |

totaly agree andy was being a little complacent as its a big roundabout (nationwide on moulton park)with quite a bit of room and was only doing very slow speed in. the anoying thing is, as you say i could have quite easily gave the throttle a little squirt and been gone. but i had my town head on and was just bimbleing along. think i've learnt a lesson from this as i thought that in my town riding i was quite safe. have to reasses that now! i belive that you have to always look for the positive, so i didn't get knocked off, there's only minor damage to one exhaust and this experiance could save my life at a later stage. |
Like your response Glyn, we know its probably the most difficult area to accept criticism in. The response from you know who however, smacks of a lack of planning, and observation on his part! Add this then to blaming someone else for our short falls, and you get road rage!! Yes other people are frustrating, but as this site is proof, we should try and accept others for how they are. |

Wise words m8... especially " Never sit along side anything either " Glad u is ok VIN....:D |

mmm..boot the car..sure thats really gonna help the motorcycling fraternity, we already have a bad name as speed freaks and wreckless drivers /riders..i understand the frustration but booting the cars is not the best advise i have heard..refer to andyb's reply for sensible advise. sure u may have helmet on and body armour on but this aint mad max . Just my opinion. |

do u think booting a car will get u respect..??? |
please keep it calm in here - like life there is always more than 1 way of achieving something. andyb - big thank you for your words, - as soon as I read them I booked up my ART Off duty Police instructors) course that I was given as a freebie when I bought the numptystrada. Glyn glad you are ok. This nearly happened to me last year on the 916, but this time it was renault espace with the kids bouncing off the chairs, - I was alongside him to go straight on, - and just had that feeling that he was going right from the left lane, - I stood the bike on its nose and sure enough he came accross the front of me. When I was 18 it did happen to me (although it was a U turn when I was alongside him, - he had indicated left pulled onto the pavement then swung accross). I got hit in the leg, kept the Rd250 up, but had a massive bruise, I stopped he denied it, saying he had n't touched me, - he was a taxi driver and having a mother in the legal profession we pursued it, - he settled out of court. |

please.....i think im gonna get the bus now cos im frightened to go on the road in my car........if u cant over take properly and i have to make room for you then perhaps u need to get some instruction as opposed to blaming others for your poor riding...:P just my opinion |
Glad your ok Glyn - could have been much worse. But are we seriously suggesting its his fault for abiding by the rules of engagement, sorry Highway Code?? I appreciate we have a responsibility to keep ourselves safe but, come on, this just adds to the idiots (like in MCN this week) who insist it is for the motorcyclist to sort out not the other road users...lets wake up and stand up for our rights!:flame: |

yup thats me timid fil2........no offence taken i was expressing an opinion..if u want me to call you a W**nke* i will but that would be pointless because you already know that and preaching to the converted is pointless. but not wanting to disapoint.. u talk absolute bollox and obviously do so for affect and in the vain hope u do try to pass me at some time i will continue to drive my car. heheheh....i never use my mirrors wots behind me dont matter...its your job to get past..... I have had my share of offs as well vman so i can feel your frustration with the shitty cars drivers at times..but i dont think kicking the door is the way forward is all im saying...we all ride and deal with thing different ways neither i guess is right or wrong just different. So you deal with it your way but to advise this is a decent option is wrong besides for those that have kicked a car on the move know that is not smart and can quite easily push you over or at the least move you of your line.....ths line that you so venomously defend..... :puzzled: that was fun but im bored now..hope to see you at the rocky track day in the fast group. |

Im bored of u now vman.....respect is earnt and would i move over outa respect no, i would move over out of courtesy ... all this talk about repsect.?? is something missing in your life  Peace and respect..... ;) |
Sri to hear of your unfortunate encounter with deaf, dumb and blind motorist sitting pretty in their nice tin can. There is one piece of kit on your bike that is all too often forgotten and is a god-send on these occasions - and I don't wish to preach to the converted, use your HORN. If I get the feeling that a motorist is not paying attention to what is going on around themselves, and I think they may have an effect on my safety, especially an overtaking manouver, they get a long blast from my horn, not once, but often several times to alert them of my presence. Leave nothing to chance - Ride defensively, take control of your own destiny and use all of your available resources to gain control of the road, (your space) if need be. :ninja: |
Oh, yeah! The horn. Mostly used to attract the notice of someone a person knows while they are walking along the pavement  It's actually a really useful piece of kit, for all sorts of situations (including approaching blind bends on narrow country lanes). I usually have my thumb over the button (plus a finger on the hi-beam flasher) when I am about to overtake, amazing how that can save your life on occasion - especially on dual carriageways. A mate of mine had an air-horn wired into his ZZR1100 - if he used that sucker, there was never any chance of a "didn't see you mate" (more a case of "I can't hear anymore, mate!"). Are such things legal? I'd like one. |
Glyn Cripes mate, must've got the old ticker going a bit. Glad you're ok anyway albeit shaken up. It makes you want to grab the guy by the neck and say WAKE UP YOU IDIOT  Anyway, hope the misting lid is sorted and say hi to the BHC guys for me. I feel left out now with the 600rr in me garage!! :o Cheers Mike |
Glyn, thank feck your ok and will live to ride another day. This sort of thing makes my blood boil! Hey,now you know why we all have race cans fitted.Load pipes save lives!;) Or some old cobblers. Ramble deleted,as drunk.........................:) |
Hey Glyn, hope everything is ok with you and the bike fix is cheap! Take it easy ... TP |
glyn, same thing happened to me on my diversion 900 with doris on the back. 2 lanes clearly marked, people carrier takes the right, i take the left. he then staight lines the r.a.b. sideswiping me. we managed to stay upright & came to a stop. i decided to clear off as stoopidly my mot was a week out. he was left with a hole in his passenger door, maybe he'll think twice before doing it again, maybe he wont. anyway, glad you wern't hurt |
Ive got to admit that normally I bite to comments by certain (non?) members of the club, so when I saw one of our "colleagues" had joined the post, it made interesting readin' How come you all ask? Every time I saw their post, I skipped over it and read the real DSC posts Meant I didnt even have to try to get past the bull**** and got to the heart of the story Glyn again hope that your not too badly shaken up or hurt rgds mort |
