S4R Huggers advice FYI To whom its of interest...apparently the QB one doesnt fit very well, and the DP one isnt available yet, and I dont know about you, but protecting the back of the casing/shock was pretty high on my agenda !! The only other solution was a prototype (DP moulded) item that stu had at spareshack. Good news..qualitys superb, and its £60 cheaper than the QB one. Bad news, theres nothing with it..no brackets, holes drilled..nothing !!! Anyway, thought id take a flyer and try to knock something up. A mate of mine got me some 22mm bendy p clips (fork lift truck spares!), and they were perfect!! They were nice and bendy so you can mould them around the swingarm, and even come with a rubber sleeve to protect the swingram ! Just drilled a slit in the hugger with my dremel thingy, slid the end of the p clip in..drilled another couple of holes to the top of the hugger, and bolted the p clips in place. Then cut the p clips to length, drilled the other end and used the bolts the hold the brackets in place that secure the rear brake line. Finished off with a cable tie to the rear end. Also got some highly adhesive car interior foam strips from a contact in Jaguar which will damp out any vibration and stop the hugger from rubbing anywhere. A lot of arsing about, but well worth it. I got caught out in the rain a couple of times when I had my new 916, and it was never the same when all the crud got down the back of the casings and in the shock. I know some of you may be thinking by now .. 'eckin 'ell that sounds like a right bodge' but it looks good as I hope youll agree when you see the photos !! Ive took a few reference photos, and if anyone would like help or advice, then please shout !! P.S Please forgive the state of it..I havent had chance to clean it yet with all the shitty weather !! Cheers Nat |
Close up of p clip.. .. |
I got the dealer to fit a QB one to mine ........apparently it fits perfectly....but I will be checking when I pick it up on Saturday!!!!! Vman .....it may not look perfect but it will save your rear shock and the wheelside surface of the swinging arm:biaggi: |
Logyk, I am picking up my S4R on Saturday - weather permitting (don't want to get it wet just yet!) and I have been looking into the hugger situation. I would be very grateful if you could let me know what your thoughts are on the QB product. By the way, if anyone is interested (as I am) in getting the full titanium Arrows system for the S4R then drop me a message as I can currently source them for £700 delivered - may be able to do a better deal if we buy a few? The dealer is fitting the DP brushed aluminium clutch cover and red pressure plates for me :biaggi: and I will probably have to purchase the LED rear light conversion too at some point. Have gone for the metallic grey option with the red wheel (very Sennaesque) Guy |
Gizmo, I will report back on Saturday after I pick it up ..... whatever the weather  It will eventually have the Ohlins/radial brakes front end .......if Ducati can deliver (what is it with Italians....don't they want my money ?):sing::bouncy: |
The QB Carbon hugger seems to fit just fine . It obviously works since I ran through rivers of water on the Leeds Ring Road on Saturday....drain covers lifted with water spouting out!! I can also report that it works even better in clement weather  I don't think it looks too bad either. If I were you Gizmo I would buy one :biaggi: |
Many thanks for the report mate - do they look easy enough to fit to you? I wimped out of collecting mine Saturday due to not really wanting to ride 160 miles home through thunderstorms and torrential rain - big girl that I am! Gonna get it delivered this Thursday along with the DP open clutch cover and red pressure plates. Will be ordering the Arrows system for it soon (to fit after 600 mile service) and think I will get the QB hugger too if it seems a good fit. Cheers Guy |
Guy..dont forget to post a pic..partic int in seeing your clutch setup..which DP one did you go for..not the £200 affair surely >:o:o:D Cheers Nat |
Nat, If I could figure out how to post pics I would be happy to. I am getting the DP pressure plate and the DP spiders web brushed ally clutch cover - both in the DP catalogue. Arrows are coming from Italy when I can get round to sorting it out. Vman, Looks like you have started something here - everyone bailing off their race bikes and onto more useable machinery for the road Guy |
Guy..how much did you get that clutch cover/plate for and where?? Ill probably go for the JHP cover with a DP plate..stainless springs too I hope Cheers Nat:D |
Nat, Got the dealer to throw them in to finalise the deal. I understand that the pressure plate and the clutch cover are about £250 retail (so cost the dealer about £125 I expect). They are both in the DP catalogue but it doesn't have prices in it. Will post pics as soon as the bike arrives Guy |
radial front end ... Quote:
I went into Ducati London South (Croydon) and asked about the radial front end. They said that only one exists and that is the show bike which is in the brochure. They also said it retails at £5,500 - is that right :o They are building one for a customer - the Beast - which they showed me as work in progress - carbon tanks, powder coated swingarm, dymag carbon wheels, ohlins front and rear, slipper clutch and trick clutch cover (the one that natty fancies) and a custom ohlins / radial brakes front end. I think they had estimated it at £25,000 so far :o:o ..... and it's not finished yet. I am trying to get a front end direct from the factory so I'm hoping they might have a few unused ohlins bits and bobs lying around that they want rid of. :P best regards simon |
£5500 my arse Simon !!! That front end kit is £2360 (inc VAT) at list..and that includes a magnesium bottom yoke ! From what Logyk tells me if your cute and get your credit card out at ducati manchester this weekend youd get it for £1900 ! This is the same DLS that said theyd be happy to sell me an S4R in black at list price because they were hard to get hold of..then I proceeded to get a grand off somewhere else !!!? They are right though, some of the bits on that yellow show bike arent available (the hugger for one!!). Have you seen the hoses on it (again n/a) in the DP cataologue?...similar to a Samco kit but it looks like the main sections are ally (coz there silver it kinda makes the hoses blend into the engine a bit more..) Nat |
scheming & dreaming Quote:
I was there last wednesday (on a sick day - happened to be passing while getting my prescription :saint:). Didn't notice the back as it was still in bits. I don't recall a tail chop though - maybe thats a recent bit of work. Very tempted by the radial brakes though but there isn't really a market for selling used grandmothers now - the bottoms really fallen out of that line of business. I remember when you get get a least two radial front ends for the price of a good grandmother, a really good one could of got you an ohlins rear shock thrown in aswell. Ah, how times have changed.:devil: dreaming and planning simon |
Quote:
Is this actually available then and at that price?? What does this include - ohlins forks, new discs, brakes pads & calipers, bottom yoke etc. If so, then that is a bit of a steal (realtively speaking). Seriously though, bulk discount anybody??:eureka: I would defo be interested at that price and for all that front end. Now where did I put that card??? best regards simon |
The wife would slaughter me simon...maybe next month.. £2360 gets you the forks, calipers (with pads in situ I believe), bottom mag yoke, carbon mudguard and racing discs..so you right..thats not bad value (especially at £1900!!) Cheers Nat |
Quote:
So who do I speak to? Ducati Manchester or Logyk to get this deal, steal, sale of the feckin' century ?? My plan is to get all these goodies on one of these credit cards which transfer the balance until 2010 (or later) when £1900 will only seem like a couple of pints when I will pay it off. :eureka::eureka: cheers simon |
Check with Phil but from what he was saying, theyve just got a 20% off all DP stuff weekend... Good luck !! Nat |
Can any of you guys that are also registered on the UKMOC forum please contact whoever administers it for me? Registered to be a member ages ago (using the same user name - Gizmo750) but I cant post or anything still. Seems I may not have been "activated"??? Any help much appreciated Guy |
Not this weekend Nat ! They did one last year and I am waiting for one this year ...prolly about beginning of Sept. I am still waiting for news of my ordered radial front end ....I'll keep you posted ! |
Guy..contacted the webmaster of UKMOC for you and hope to hear back shortly. Phil...sorry mate, thought that this 20% off thing was a definite event..thatll teach me to listen properly !! Simon..lets see how Phil gets on with supply (italians are just coming upto shutdown so they tend to be a little slack this time of the year !!!), and ill see if I can get you a deal...give me a nudge when Phils got his (which im sure hell be quick to tell us :D:D) Cheers Nat |
The kit includes Ohlins forks, magnesium 3-bolt bottom yoke, radial brakes pipes and fittings and a racing carbon front mudguard. |
Cheers Nat, So we all wait with baited breath for the fabled front end to arrive then! Guy PS my S4R is being delivered tomorrow but I just got called away with work until Friday night!!!!!:mad::mad: |
No worries Guy. I picked up my transverse carbon damper kit today so ill let you know how I get on. Also, maybe getting a load of talon style gunmetal sprocket carriers ..have yet to sort a price out, but anyone provisionally interested in taking one if the price is right?? BTW Phil..as discussed termis will be delivered directly to you from the supplier on an overnight as soon as they come in from italy. They will attach the invoice to the box. Cheers nat |
Nat, You think the S4R needs a damper then? As for the sprocket carriers - may be interested but not sure I do enough miles to justify, at least I didn't on the 996 (5 years - 5,000 miles is a poor effort). Maybe I will get through more on the new bike! Think I will order a hugger from either Spareshack or QB Carbon direct, they are the same price and I think the same item, unless anyone knows different??? Still going to go for the full titanium Arrows system but as I just got stung for a £700 serive on the car it may have to wait a few weeks :( Guy |
Yes Guy I do think it needs a damper..!!! I must admit all my bikes have had dampers..the (fast) roads around here (cotswolds/wilts etc) arent the smoothest, and even by running in I can see its going to be a little nervous on the gas..! The main reason for the sprocket carrier tbh is that they look pretty trick !!! Ill get one fitted to my bike then post a pic.. Cheers Nat |
All this talk of radial brakes and carbon bit's, think I'll leave mine standard so it's different  Thought youd like this pic of a S4R, it's one of the guys from the Midland Monsters with radial brakes, carbon tank, one off exhaust etc Darren [Edited on 21-7-2004 by LesPaul] |
I know it is an old thread - but it started off with huggers. MS Production/Ilmberger huggers for your S4R will be here next week At long last!!! Sandbar [Edited on 19-11-2004 by Sandbar] |
