DP slipper clutch
 
thinking of buying the DP slipper clutch (968207AAA) for my 998R, are they ok?

got a good price for it so i think i will go for it. Was looking at the 48T ones from tec moto but they are about £700 with the plates extra:o
My first clutch only lasted 3500 miles!

How much is the DP one? It cant be much less surely?

Chillo, have you spoken to the guys at Tec? Have a chat with Wayne, let him know a few of us here sent you along and I'm sure he'll do you some kind of deal. And they'll fit it for you for free too.

can't you put your original plates in - if they're OK that is. Will save a bit of cash.

As Jamie says, speak to Wayne at TecMoto.....

He's a great guy and a fan of the DSC.

And the STM is the best you can get!!!

Chillo, if you want the best (as in what the WSBK guys run), get a Bucci one. Not sure where the best place to get one is (aside from Italy), but I think JHP do them.

For the road you'd be much better off with a stm evoluzione type clutch, the SBK boys dont really have to worry about plate wear, progressiveness/smoothness etc

How do you know if you're better off with the STM unit? Certainly smoothness and progressive action is REQUIRED in racing.

Whichever one is best is beside the point. The STM unit is more than enough for road, track and race use.

So is price the deciding factor then? The Bucci's aren't much more than the STMs and certainly less than the 700 quid that Chillo stated.

I bought one of the Casoli "copy" ones (based on the Ducati one) and found it to be brilliant. The one on the RSV-R is a joke by comparison. Absolutely no reverse-torque effect even on hamfisted downshifts on a wet track.

I'm selling the bike now, so its for sale (only used in two race meetings) for £300 if you're interested.

BTW it is Gold.

Chillo That one is a twelve tooth. You will need new plates as well also be prepared to buy new alloy basket every couple of track days. 48 tooth is better. also if you have Bucci or STM go for the six post. Evo can't be adjusted.

Jon, are you really replacing your clutch basket every other trackday??? I have a 12 tooth like Chillo just bought and with using the wide tooth ally plates, it's lasted over a year!!!

Jon,

picked up the clutch and had a chat with Andrea who says he might be able to do a discount if a few were ordered in in one go. It seems like a nice piece of kit, well machined. Supposed to be made bt either bucci or STM. As it is a 12t type you just use your standard plates and it is of the 6 post type.
Hope to have it fitted tomorrow so will let you know what i think then.

Felix sorry I did'nt mean it literaly. It will all depend on the rider. Having heard of Chillo's exploits they might only last him a couple of laps.:lol: No seriously I have an 12 tooth STM which ate its basket after 3000 miles. 2600 of those were mway riding to Misano last year. Because you have the wider tounged plates this will help enormously. The only down side is you have less of them and I have always wondered if they would slip. Obviousley slipper's are predominately made for track use and one would think nothing of buying a new set of tyre's, so replacing the basket wouldn't be that big a deal.
But what I am saying is that if you went for the 48 tooth the basket would have a much longer life. Also you should remember that the clutch plates because they are slipping more freqentley have a much shorter life span. I would shuggest Chillo that you invest in a set of the harder sintered plates.
