Sad Day

Finally decided to bite the bullet and give up biking. Had way too many scares on public roads, and that coupled with the increasing tendency towards a full on nanny state has made the decision inevitable. Am gonna stick to flying, it's safer and the government have not yet put any speed camera's up there!

Will probably keep the ST2 just in case I change my mind or someone comes to their senses and realises that speed camera's achive exactly f**k all, but the 996 is going lock, stock and barrel. Those that know me will know it's a well sorted bike, so I don't expect to have her too much longer.

Have put an ad in the market place, but in case you can't be bothered browsing there, all you need to know is here: http://www.jlawson.com/996/

Maybe see some of you at the Popham Mega Meet - I'm flying in!!! :sing:

Triple Nine 21-Jul-2004 21:39

Sorry to hear this John, but I know what you mean:mad:

Happy landings at Popham.

Cheers, Roy

Henners 21-Jul-2004 21:41

That is just stunning yeti - what every 996 should be! Sorry you are letting her go.

rockhopper 21-Jul-2004 21:47

Sorry to hear that John. If you ever fancy a go on a fastish bike then your more than welcome to borrow mine.

yeti 21-Jul-2004 21:55

Thanks for the comments Henners. I tried very hard not to make it too much of a tarts handbag and spent the serious money on handling and braking. John Hackett checked the engine numbers and it was one of the last genuine SPS motors with all the internal goodies, so I just let him spend the day with it on his Dyno building the chip for it.

I'm really gutted to be lettin her go, but hopefully someone will give her a good home.

Thanks again for your appreciation.

yeti 21-Jul-2004 21:56

Thanks rockhopper, may well take you up on that, but bearing in mind my earlier coments about public roads, perhaps not...................... :frog:

KeefyB 22-Jul-2004 22:19

This is a sad day indeed John.
One of the best rides I had last year was chasing you on the Crowle/Goole road up to Yorkshire.Shame we did'nt have the chance to do it more often.I hope you get what you want for the 996,that bike is the billy b0ll0x.

Jools 22-Jul-2004 23:18

Yep, I echo Keefy's sentiments. That Crowle road behind you, Keefy and Dukerob was one of the moments that I treasure.

I dream about getting a superbike all the time and spend fruitless hours trying to find creative ways to liberate enough cash with all my other commitments. Should it be a 97/98 748 for around £4000 or then again should I hang on and spend around £9000 on a 749S, or then again, wait till my car is paid for and get a 749R...and so on and so on.

I tell you mate...if I had £9750 today, your bike would be in my shed tomorrow. I'm only about £6000 short at the moment :(

Hope you get the most out of your flying, and don't forget ST2's can be fun as well.

kwikbitch 23-Jul-2004 14:27

But...But...But...But...But
What about our rideouts...what about the advanced teaching...what about my support...
Boo,hoo,hoo...:(:sniff::(:sniff:

This is a sad day indeed...still comimg to the meets though aren't you???

Lisa x

Rocker 23-Jul-2004 17:03

Although I've never met you I sorry to see that you are giving up riding.Whilst I can appreciate your reasons I personally am not prepared to let the faceless ones drive me off the road without a struggle
I hope you enjoy your flying in safety

paulmort 23-Jul-2004 21:10

John

yeti 24-Jul-2004 05:25

He guys, thanks for all your lovely comments. Almost gave me second thoughts. I'll still be around the scene as I think the ST2 will come out of hibernation once in a while so I WILL see you around, and Lisa - NO I have not forgotten the advanced etc, and YES you and I can still meet in secret......:sing:

PS: FWIW, I had a truly exceptional flight down to Guernsey yesterday, made me realise I had made the right decision. 185mph all the way there, and nobody complained about speeding!!! :flame:

But did you get your knee down? :D

:burn:

psychlist 24-Jul-2004 12:21

Had an hour's "try flying" session a few years ago and it makes biking seem so 2-dimensional! Whatever you choose, wherever you do it, bon chance and keep smiling!

2-dimensional? Have you tried Paddock Hill Bend? ;)

Quite agree, Paul, it's all about tools for the job.

yeti 01-Aug-2004 18:27

again guys, thanks for your comments. Been on holididdys the last week so been out of touch. Had a bit of interest in the outfit, but nothing solid as yet. fingers crossed

DC 03-Aug-2004 20:26

One word.........................

Nice.

Another word or two...............

Very nice bike mate, I am very taken with the machine. If i had the money i would be on the phone like a flash!!!!!

DC.

Redruth 03-Aug-2004 20:57

Please read your U2U's and respond, Yeti. Flying, don't talk to me about flying. Ever tried Microlighting. F*****g wheelbarrow on wings. Did a week of pilot's licence in Portugal a couple of years ago and jacked it in. Only comforting thing about those flippin' machines is they have the equivalent of a motorbike engine on them. So, swapsies? My bike for yours? Nah? Shame. Seriously, if you can wait a while for the cash, I would Luuuuuurrrrrvvvveee yr bike. I'd sell mine like a shot to get yours. But I just know the timing ain't gonna happen. Craaaaap!:devil::devil:

yeti 03-Aug-2004 21:47

Ruth - you have mail.............................

yeti 05-Aug-2004 12:23

Just to let you all know I found even more extra's and have posted them on website: www.jlawson.com/996

DC 06-Aug-2004 19:13

Hello mate,

You have u2u.;)

yeti 09-Aug-2004 09:46

Just to let you know I sold the bike - sunbject to contract. Thanks everyone for your interest. More than 300 of you logged on to the website to look at the bike. Looks like it's going to a good home. :sing:

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 10:24

Actually, Yeti, at least 50 of those log ons were mine:D:D:D:D:D

yeti 09-Aug-2004 12:46

OK, it's out now. I was going to keep it quiet, but my bike is going to a WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my God, how will I ever live this down? I did sell the bike with several conditions however. These are that said lady does the following:

Several track days on her own bike BEFORE getting access to mine.

Reads Twist of the Wrist 1 and 2 and sits a multi choice questionnaire afterwards.

Watches 2 years worth of old BSB footage.

Researches and understands what ALL the fancy bits do, and can prove that she knows how to set them up correctly.

Pays me an enormous wedge for said bike.

Lets me ride it one last time before parting with it.

Anything else I can think of between now and when she takes delivery!

Truly a sad day for me, but I know that Ruth will look after my beloved even if she hasn't the faintest idea what she's buying! :D

Seriously chaps, Ruth is deadly serious about upping her game, and I know she'll be looking to you lot to help her out on occassion. Still a sad sad day though :(

Loz 09-Aug-2004 12:56

Yeti
Sorry, mate. I feel your pain. :(

Ruth
YOU JAM STRANGLER! :lol::lol::lol:

Good on ya! :sing:

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 13:40

Ok, Yeti, those are NOT the conditions we discussed  I plan to learn about all the twiddly bits gradually. You know how dangerous it is to overload a woman's brain. Half the stuff will be beyond comprehension anyway. The only way for me to appreciate the bike is to ride it, which ain't happening for a few weeks, as we both know - oh, except that you did say you might bring it down to Mallory and I can take it on the track there .... didn't you? :bouncy: If I bin it, I buy it (your words) but as I'm buying it anyway ...:lol:

Loz - What is a 'jam strangler' :puzzled::puzzled:

Loz 09-Aug-2004 13:46

Jam strangler n. a fortunate person; one who is lucky; a jammy git.

:D

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 14:01

Loz: That'll be me then.:bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

Yeti, honestly, I have not got your licence. I've never seen your licence and if I could help you find it, I would. Keep looking. Did you ever photocopy it for any reason, eg when sending it off to have points put on it? (sorry it that's a total bloody insult). :puzzled:

yeti 09-Aug-2004 14:03

Think they would accept my pilots licence? Got a good old fashioned UK CAA one, a nice shiny US FAA one and a rather strange but tatty Malaysian one, surely one should be enough!!!!!!!!!

Don't you need a pilot's licence at Cadwell for The Mountain? :)

yeti 09-Aug-2004 18:12

Yes, you do, and preferably with an aerobatic endorsment for when you loop it! Don't laugh, I've seen it happen. Scary or what!

Oh, thank you for that!

Less than a week to go ...

Yippee! :sing: :burn:

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 18:35

Loz. Are you really gonna ride that beautiful new bike on the track? Are you sure? The woman at No Limits told me she wouldn't let me do Cadwell as my first track day specifically because people fall off doing unintentional, overcooked wheellies on the mountain. Hey ho. :( One rule for us women and another one for you blokes.

I'm not helping am I. :devil::devil:

keefer 09-Aug-2004 18:43

nice new bike Ruth
you make sure you keep it nice and clean, no london runs on it
get that Pan European you were talking about ;)

Excuse me. Do I know you?

HOW DARE YOU :flame:

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 18:47

Only joking :lol: Too good a mood to be upset, obviously

Loz 09-Aug-2004 18:53

Ruth, the 999 has to go up the mountain. I have a nice new back tyre, but I'll need to conserve the front - so wheelies will be the order of the day.

Anyway, unintentional, overcooked wheelies are the only ones I know how to do! :o

:bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 18:53

Message to Keith 'No Hands' Ducatirider - Popham attendee.

I am sure someone, somewhere, could dissuade you from buying a Pan European.

Have you also considered Goldwing? That might suit you? :D:D:D

Redruth 09-Aug-2004 18:57

Loz, I've never, ever done a wheellie, and Cadwell is NOT where I want to start. I consider it a 'bloke' thing. But I'm willing to give it a try sometime. Do the instructors give wheellie lessons, do you suppose?:puzzled:

I really don't know. My advice ... don't ask them! ;)
