Bike \"fallen\" over

My (x)girlfriend has spitefully pushed my bike over, causing the usual damage to the right hand side - scratched mirror (not broken), gouged fairing, and has also scratched the seat panel too.

All cosmetic, but the main thing I'm worried about is the fact that it appears to be leaking petrol down the left hand side - it has dripped down the frame and onto the gear shifter and side stand (maybe on the right too but thats the way it leans over so I'm not sure). Also I think the tank is moving more than normal (side to side wobble)

I can't lift up the seat for some reason either - it seems as tho the catch isn't releasing on the right hand side? So i can't check if the tank is fixed on properly at the bolt infront of the rider seat.

Does anyone know what it might be?

Also,I think the steering lock may be bent or broke cos the bars turn round further now both directions.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated - the bike is in a friends parent's garage so I don't want to stink it out with petrol!:(

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 11:53

Oh and also the open clutch cover got bent too, just to add more to the list!

smilo006 26-Jul-2004 12:01

Spiteful is the right word, real shame.
There is a black rubber overflow / breather pipe that runs down from the tank on the left side of the bike. Depending on where this exits, the petrol may have come from there.

Steering lock, the handle bars have stop locks on them, could it be those that have snapped?

As for the tank, it is possible to put you hand up under the rear seat just behind the seat lock and pull the wire that runs from the lock up to the catch. A coat hanger can be an alternative if you have big hands. A good yank on that should free the seat catch.

antonye 26-Jul-2004 12:10

Report it to the police and get some fingerprints taken, then sue the b!tch for the money to get it fixed.

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 12:23

Is it possible for the wire to have got slack or stuck? The key turns and pulls on the wire, but the right hand side of the seat is stuck and won't lift off/release.

My mate saw it happen as he was helping me remove my stuff, so i do have a witness - I didn't think too much on reporting it tho yet

DJ Tera 26-Jul-2004 12:33

I know a couple of girls that could 'have a word' if you like, won't be tracable back to you either! ;)

I'm just glad my bunnyboiling ex never tried that ****! :flame:

Rattler 26-Jul-2004 12:42

Sorry to hear about the incident!! Women - you can't live with them, you can't live with them!!!

The seat latch is a central one, and should be released by the cable, as others have said, reach underneath and pull this down to get full movement on the cable, if this doesn;t free it then it probably means that the seat is stuck on something else. Particularly if its one side, as the catch is a central one.

Maybe the tool kit has moved or something similar - causing the seat to jam?

As for the fuel, hopefully this is just overflow - is the tank pretty full? If so it may just be where the fuel has gone through the overflow pipes at the top of the tank (When the bike was on its side) and is just running out of the overlflow pipe?

This pipe should exit from underneath the belly pan area, (if its got one) or from a hole underneath the side panels (where they join at the bottom).

If its not then this may have been tucked up by the sidestand area, or have come loose from around the fuel pump area (underside of tank). Eitherway it should stop after a while, if it doesn;t stop then it may be a fuel union type connector into the fuel pump.

Let us know
Tim

Rattler 26-Jul-2004 12:45

Just re-read your post, you mention that the tank is moving from side to side! This shouldn't really happen, it is fixed on rubbers and mounted on the top of the airbox with a rubber seal, so there should be a certain amount of flex in the rubbers, but not very much!!

How hard did it land, did the tank take any of the impact (is there any damage to the tank?

Tim

Rattler 26-Jul-2004 12:46

Weeksy - so that's why you sold the Duke!!!!!:lol::lol::lol:

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 13:08

There was a scratch on the tank - it brushed off tho so its not visibly damaged. I think the bars may have pushed round to the left (the steering damper has touched the left fork top). There is more movement than normal side to side with the tank tho, I'm pretty sure it didn't move that much before. It almost lifts off a bit on each side.

It must have landed pretty hard, was on its stand and she pushed it over. They're not terribly light these bikes are they! It landed hard enough to bend the clutch cover in after bashing it against the fairing.

The petrol is only a bit but smells really strong near the rear left part of the tank - near the rider seat. And it has ran down the frame from there to the sidestand.

Its a 748 by the way...

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 13:19

The tank is about half-full, and i have used it since it was dropped (prob about 15 miles - had to bloody get out of there before she did it again!), so i'm not so sure its the overflow - that would have stopped by now wouldn't it?

Anyway, its not coming from the overflow pipe itself, more like out of the tank near the seat.

Karl 26-Jul-2004 13:54

Jody
Sorry to hear about that, its an regreable way to end a relationship.

It takes a lot to split a tank I would think one of the pipes leading to the tank pump has splitor come lose, and the bolt holding the tank has also come lose and thats why you can`t lift up your seat.
Really you need to move the tank into the correct postion so you can take your seat off to have a look under the tank to see what the damage is.

You were lucky you got away riding it 15 miles:o

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 14:16

Ok, thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll try to get the seat and tank off tonight to see if any of the pipes are split, or if the tank has just come loose.

I'll let u know how I get on!

Yeah you can, just learn how to pave a patio ;)

typer77 26-Jul-2004 16:21

take her out on a ride, and pull a sudden wheelie on her... It's all an accident.

Redruth 26-Jul-2004 17:54

Typer77, brilliant idea. Funny and effective! Jodycraw, in spite of the 'criminal damage' you sound incredibly calm. I'd be spitting blood if that happened to me (clearly, my girlfirends know how to behave themselves!). Have you considered getting a quote to repair ALL the damage and sending it to her? If she won't pay up, threaten to take her to the small claims court. In an ideal world, you'd get your insurance company to do the repairs, submit your witness's statement with your claim and they would claim the costs back from her. Unfortunately, insurance companies can't be arsed and you just end up losing your no claims bonus! Hope you get it sorted out. Try to be a bit more selective in your choice of girlfried in future. Top priority when vetting, complete devotion to your motor bike (rather than the things you probably look for first in a woman. Big tits ARE NOT the be all and end all, OK?) ::flame:

Is that the female equivalent of the male: It's not what you've got, it's how you use it :lol::lol:

Might be. You missed a cracking day out, yesterday, Henners. I hear you didn't come out to play cos it was a bit wet. Is that right?

Redruth...............you're right of course ......... careful selection is very important. My ideal has always been..........

Blonde, 6', nymphomaniac, brewery heiress with an avid interest in all things Italian motorcyclia, oh and she MUST have big tits :lol:

I've been lucky as 5 out of 6 can't be bad :D

Redruth................I take it you're of the female whotsit, you know, gender. :P:D

Redruth 26-Jul-2004 18:29

The key to your comments is in the fact that you've "ploughed" your way throught 6 girlfriends - Steady Evvy - clearly not! Yes, guilty as charged - female. Remark about 'girlfriends' not intended to imply anything. Just showing support with the poor guyser whose b!tch trashed his bike. :burn:

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 18:29

She didn't have big tits! (she better not read this or she'll probably come round and kill me!). Nice arse though. I will choose carefully next time.

I could get an estimate, but she doesn't have any money and to make things even better she didn't have her contract renewed after a 3 month trial period, so she'll have even less money....

I am calm, but not sure for how long! I have to sort the bike out, and get a place to live, all pretty sharpish....

Thanks for all the help people!

Check out 'What's the point' thread Ruth - who had the cracking day?

everton 26-Jul-2004 18:40

Sorry for being flippant Jody & hope you get sorted soon. Best to get it to a dealer/ Ducati specialist and get it checked over.

My ex-wife kicked in the door panel on my Merc 190E that I owned at the time I said I was off with my blonde, 6'...........etc, etc

I deducted the repair bill from the divorce settlement and actually got away with it

Haven't you got any compromising pictures of her that you can threaten her with & stick those up on the web. There's plenty of PhotoShop experts on here who can add a bit of poetic licence.

Failing that................pay a few bob, get a solicitor to write a letter to her claiming all the damages, repair bill, solicitors cost etc...............failing payment of which you will take her to court with all incremental costs to be recovered. Scare her into paying up and take a settlement.

BTW what did you do to make her so mad to do this?

jodycraw 26-Jul-2004 19:04

I'm going to say to her that I'll report it to the Police unless she pays. She also broke a couple of pairs of my Oakleys, and gave me a clout round my ear, along with her brother who was there. So that hurts, not as much as the bike though!

I won't go in to much detail, but basically we'd been out - seperately, we'd both been drinking despite her saying she wouldn't, and she went down my phone while I was asleep - claimed to be looking for some pics. She found a couple of texts a friend of mine had sent (female friend - innocent tho) and she just went mad, jumped to all sorts of conclusions about me meeting up with her etc.

So guys beware! I'm going to make sure not to get another insanely jealous girlfriend, and I'm going to save all the girls I know under Bob, or James something like that! I don't want this to happen again:puzzled:

everton 26-Jul-2004 19:08

Tough way to find out your better off out of it mate.............you're lucky she didn't take a carving knife to your gonnads whilst you were asleep or you'd have to change your board name to Wayne Bobbit :o

Henners 26-Jul-2004 19:09

Ahhh - the University of Life, graduate from the School of Hard Knocks ... ;)

Redruth 26-Jul-2004 19:11

Ouch. Seems like you've suffered some injustice. Good luck finding somewhere to live etc. Top tip: always delete everything from your phone at the end of each day. Make it a rule, like taking your lenses out or earrings off no matter how ****ed you get. After a while, it will become 2nd nature. Or so I hear!!!

Dude she sounds just like my psycho ex

I lost count of the number of times I slept on my front after an argument.......

Wasn't veggy by any chance!!?

My Girlfriend knocked my ride over, Damage was slight,

Body work was a little scratched but nothing serious, however she was leaking a bit but that was soon stopped with liberal use of a Kleenex tissue.

The superficial body damage, although not serious did ruin the looks, but nothing a bit of makeup could not fix.

was denied the chance to ride that weekend, but the sun was shining so I took my girlfriend for a few hundred kilometres jaunt and left the ride at home repairing the damage.

( no offence intended to female members of the forum. )

Sorry about the bike, hope you get the damage sorted and put in a few more 15 mile rides before the summer ends.

And its the last time I ask my other half to hold my bike up while I check the oil level

I have a service which might be of use to you...the bitch can be collected from any said point in the U.K. taken to a place of retribution [ black hood over head ] introduced to one bassball bat and instucted on the errors of her ways! the service includes carcass removal and the event takes place well clear of prying eyes and out of earshot the usual cost would be £100 sterling but in this case ...NO CHARGE! :D:D:D
