Loz...you never know matey...things may well change on that front.... I may be an 'ex-cruiser' soon - (not of the moustache and leather cap brigade I may add) Just thought I'd get a dig in, as I had it levelled at me when I had a knackered wheel bearing!!! :D 'orrible bloody exhaust though... and he wants nearly a gee for it as well - blimey |

Paul, there's no excuse for having a dig - you don't need one! :D I sussed you're in the market for a change, looking back on some of your recent posts. The 749/999 shape really is more comfortable than previous supersports models - worth thinking about for that reason alone. I'm a fan of "function before form" (I like the 999 shape, after all!), but that exhaust is pig-awful. Ugh. |
Dickie, are you running 180/55 on yours? I have just put one on mine and the c-strip (after 10 miles from dealer to home) is narrower than that on the 190/50 I put 3000 miles on! :o |

i am yes, definitely get the full use of the tyre now. but in serious danger of running off the edge of the tyres now. at least now i know that when my pegs/sidestand touch down that my lean angle limit is just about up. |

Cash is a big part of the process here... I do want more power and to own a true sportsbike and that has a big pull for me. I can't really afford to go out and get a 749/999 and whatever I get it will probably be a 'dry-weekend-warrior's-bike' for me. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to ride it into London everyday - getting the crap kicked out of it in parking bays in the West End (mind you that could be 'cos the ST ain't so pretty). The 749/999 does grow on you and I'm not averse to it but it's back to the age old arguement that if you have an expensive bike will you take the risk of getting the last 2mm's out of the tyre - for the sake of £4/5k's worth of damage? ('R' models especially). Paul |
You're right, Paul, you have to look at the overall picture. Not everyone is comfortable risking a lot of cash out on the road/track (although their life or health, that's different!). I'm really lucky, I have my 750Sport for everyday (I don't own a car), and my 999 for the right day/right mood. But you can have fun on any bike that is inherently sound - the most fun I've ever had on a bike was on my old XJ900F. The ST2 is well capable and if it is "invisible" in the City, well so much the better! |
