748 Buyer guide in BiKE

Typically excellent guide from Neil Murray in this month's magazine. Neil also gives the DSC a big up saying that this is 'the best forum. Brilliant.'

Is that out already? Must go and read it in WH Smiths at lunchtime then :D

They sell all the bike mags wrapped in cellophane these days (with lots of freebies that you'll never use), so you can't just pop in for a quick read, you actually have to buy the buggas!!!

Unless you've got a flick-knife handy!!

Sod that, just rip them open like the rest of us! :P

rockhopper 02-Aug-2004 12:56

I couldnt really find any faults in that buyers guide apart from the fact that it would scare off any potential 748 buyers!

antonye 02-Aug-2004 14:44

Just been out and bought Bike, but got last month's as it's cellophane wrapped and I couldn't check to see if it was the right one :(

rockhopper 02-Aug-2004 14:47

I think the subscribers get theirs earlier. Mine came on saturday with a free Havoc DVD. Motorbike crashes from the 1980's or something.

antonye 02-Aug-2004 15:03

Yeah, I got the Rossi one which is last months I think.

Never mind, hadn't read it anyway so no big loss...

Henners 02-Aug-2004 15:25

You get quoted Anthony :D

I wrote the bloody article for him ... and not the first time I've done it either, the cheeky git!

Mark 02-Aug-2004 22:36

I have to say, the first part made me think, oh god, what have i bought, i mean, look at my avtar!:P

antonye 03-Aug-2004 10:25

Picked up a copy this morning and read through it properly. While it is a bit on the negative side, it is very accurate don't you think?

Most of us have faced some of these problems with our bikes over the years of ownership and it's good for new/prospective owners to know that these things are common and very easy to fix in most cases.

Neil was on holiday last week, but he sent me a text to say that Bike are restarting his new & used columns in the magazine after a lot of calls asking where they had gone! Nice that he got a big plug in for the club too.

rockhopper 03-Aug-2004 11:39

True that most of the problems are easy to fix and are well documented but its not so good that the fixes cost so much money.

antonye 03-Aug-2004 12:53

Just think of it as exclusivity tax

rockhopper 03-Aug-2004 14:21

Thats very true actually. My ST4 and Lynns Monster were parked side by side at Darley Moor on Sunday and several people stopped to watch us start up and ride off. No one was doing that to the jap bikes.

"clutches need regular adjustment" sorry but i've not adjusted mine once in 2 and a half years??? .

if you were not a ducati owner you wouldn't buy one after reading that !!

But Nige, yours is yellow and therefore goes a lot slower than the rest of ours ... it's bound to not need as much maintenance

You really dont want to go down that road again, you will probably get passed by a Yella one!:lol::lol:

Regards the article, they only want to write stuff that they think people want to hear anyway, whether its true or not.
I dont care if no one else in the whole world never buys a duke, I know I love and cherish mine and think more of it than any other bike I have owned or thought of getting.

Rocker 11-Sep-2004 22:50

The BIG advantage of yellow ones is that they are not so noticable when on the back of AA trucks:rolleye:
